  1. This. Plus, back in the day, companies like Granada and the BBC had large teams of technicians. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a piano tuner on the payroll.
  2. You were ahead of your time! Oh well, Goth mandocello bands will be all the rage in 2029! Still got the Case Hardin CD.
  3. Oh wow, what an experience! Sorry, I missed it being only two days old 😀 There are a couple of other bits on YouTube - one is a longer bit of performance, the other is the train journey. Chorlton-cum-Hardy - now that's a name for a Blues town if ever there was one!
  4. Been fascinated by this for years, partly due to the fact that it was two days after I was born, but mainly as it is such a wonderfully 'odd' concept. There is also a longer film available on YouTube for those who may be interested.
  5. ...which is in the continent of North America. I think for a concept as broad as Americana many Canadian acts would fit in, as do some influences from Mexico.
  6. Isn't it all about music influenced by 'roots' styles - Bluegrass, Zydeco, Cajun, Blues? From memory, when I was working in the record business, there was an Alt Country movement - Steve Earle, Cowboy Junkies etc. a kind of antidote to the other development of the time, New Country. Alt Country then merged with other sub genres, a couple of big acts (Springsteen) went back to a more traditional sound, and a new marketing tool was born.
  7. The man behind Wish basses! What a find @kodiakblair
  8. Yes, it has been a long, slow burn, from the early days of Alt Country.
  9. Oh my! Stunning.
  10. 15 posts in and nobody has made the Dam Busters joke. We're slipping.
  11. Does seem to be growing, which is another great reason to explore!
  12. Yes, guess I'm coming to it from the Blues side, which is where Elles Bailey started (along with Alice Armstrong and a couple of others). Looks like there is a fair bit of crossover. Will check out Longstay, thanks.
  13. Thanks - yes, been following their Facebook page - need to delve deeper into their own website, thanks.
  14. I have a bit of an idea for the next band I want to put together, and thought it would probably fall under the Americana label (not that I am one for labels, but they do serve a purpose when putting something together and then marketing that act). Anybody here playing in such a band? Is there a 'scene' (it looks like there is a bit of one from my Facebook feed)? Who are some of the bands out there? Thanks in advance!
  15. Picked up a Cry Baby at a local hose clearance place for £3. Exchanged next day at a Brighton guitar shop for a set of D'addario chrome bass strings. I have no idea how I disposed of my 1970s Electro Harmonix Poly chorus, but I know I wouldn't have sold it for much.
  16. I've had a Carvin BX500 for years, and my brother has had a combo for a similar time. No problem with either. However, there was a big reliability issue which the guys at the stockist at the time, Bass Gear, became aware of. Most of the problems happened early in ownership, so if there's secondhand gear out there working I'd say it would be low risk.
  17. @BigRedX has good knowledge of unusual designs. He may be able to shed some light on wether it is original or a custom job.
  18. Have you tried Newtone Strings? Lots of folk on here rate them highly (I've only used them for guitar), and they will make custom sizes.
  19. Poor take by Scott. I'm not a Scott hater, and think he does a great job of promoting his brand, and bass in general. But I think it's a shame he uses his platform here with no regard to the damage he could be causing (proven by the need for this thread). I'm a 34" scale player with gas for a Nordy Acinonyx.
  20. I enjoyed it. The suspension of disbelief didn't bother me as I felt it was a short cut to representing success of the band/project. Thought the music was cleverly constructed.
  21. Enjoy your basses. Don't ask others to validate your choices.
  22. If @LowB_FTW suggestion doesn't work, anything by Wasp - they can sting multiple times. As a serious response, pretty sure Michael M Keegan of Therapy? Tunes his 4 string down to C - great workout for your left hand down at the first fret!
  23. This could end up being neverending. I'll just suggest one young multi-instrumentalist, although for me his real talent is his guitar playing - Tom Misch. Great jazz chops, a lovely feel. Not 100% convinced by his finished productions, but his playing is sublime.
  24. Just love his explosive snare hits - drives Hard Bop like no other.
