1.
I appreciate that we all have different tastes, and that's great, but for me, I found tonight's show totally underwhelming.
Absolutely, and I can see that. I was in the mood to not be overwhelmed, quite like that quality in music sometimes.
2. Good tonight so far...
3.
Slap has been badly abused, but done with taste it's like any other technique and can be pretty cool. One of my favourite slapped basslines is "Forget me nots", played by Freddie Washington, like this: the actual slap starts at around 30 seconds. It also shows just how nice a Precision can sound slapped. You hear a lot of scooped tones, lots of Jazz bass with both pickups on... I like my mids, and this is beautiful.
Nah, can't be any good, he's got a music stand in front of him
4. That was fabulous - and I'm one of those "less is more" "don't go up the dusty end" "serve the song" types.
5. Great transaction with Ian - immediate bank transfer and swift communication. Scanning through this thread it looks like I've sold him his annual MXR Envelope Filter fix Thanks Ian.
6. Check out this thread that Rich (Grangur) started - might be useful if you need a bit more confidence: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/277468-bcers-prepared-to-help-fix-a-bass/
7. Looks like a lovely example. GLWTS.
8.
Thanks guys That sounds like the sort of adjustment that would then have problems going back to 4... no?
Yes, the nut adjustment would not be reversible, but shouldn't be too expensive to replace. If the bridge did need some work then this would still be OK if you wanted to go back down again.
9. Nut will need cutting, and possibly a bit of set up work, but that's all.
10. And sold subject to the usual.
11.
I think solid state guitar amps have trouble finding their niche in the market - there are lots of entry level combos that aren't all that inspiring, a few high-end modelling rigs and not too much choice in mid priced gear.
Only one that I am aware of is the Orange Crush Pro - young guitarist in my band has one and it sounds really nice. Also impressed by the Youtube demo by GAK. Yet to be convinced by a modelling amp.
12. Bought this from Miles'tone off here for a project, that, due to a complete absence of GAS has now been cancelled. 19mm Spacing, 5 string, chrome, nice weighty piece with original screws. Will post. (edit thanks to an additional piece of information from bass-a-licious)! 13. Bought off here earlier this year, tried it twice, I can't get the sound I have in my head so have given up on my envelope filter quest. Selling for what I paid - in decent condition, velcro on bottom, fresh battery inside, and a tatty box, so can post. Selling for what I paid, which is a bit of a bargain compared to some recent ebay and Facebook sales! Will post. 14. There's a "new, old stock" on eBay for £650. I used to stock GS (never an explorer) when I had a shop. Great guitars, but a tough sell. Even harder when Gibson added cheaper versions to their range. I'd very tentatively suggest around £500, but expect a slow sale. Good luck.
15. Had my Shuker since 2012, and, apart from a bitsa as a back-up it is, and will probably remain my only bass (gas has completely gone). Only swithced to bass in around 2005, and this is my 3rd bass since then. My Guild SA 90 guitar on the other hand I've had for 39 years.
16.
Right. So despite the fact that I have specifically stated my reasons for doing it, i.e. purely an aesthetic preference as Trevor said, and have also stated that I am not a snob, you have decided otherwise? Despite never having met me or my bass. And you obviously don't know me if you think that was any sort of'threat', veiled or otherwise.
I'm sorry Rich, but your first post was, at the very least, passive aggressive. Without trawling through all my posts it is not the first time, I had a very acerbic response from you quite recently. Aesthetics, snobbery, when it comes to branding, what's the difference? If it wasn't for this companies wouldn't spend fortunes developing brand loyalty. By the way, I'm a snob too. My bitsa has F3nd3r Recession Bass on the headstock, a nod to the brand, and so it looks authentic from the distance, but with a little joke as it cost a lot less.
17.
What is 'strange' about it, and what has my being a mod got to do with it? I put a decal on my bitsa. However, I am neither a snob nor a fraudster. Are you suggesting otherwise?
Yes. There is an element of brand snobbery in what you have done. The strange behaviour is the lightly veiled threat talking of accusations of fraud being thrown around.
18.
The number of times I have seen bands mis-judge the length of their pre-recorded intro and the amount of time required to get on stage and plug in their instrument, so consequently get on far too early and then proceed to stand around on stage looking faintly embarrassed while they wait for the appropriate moment for the first number to start.
Could you make the introduction a little longer... (c)Eric Morecambe
19.
There are two reasons to re-badge a bass: Snobbery. Fraud.

I put the decal on my bitsa because for me, it completed the look of it. Care to tell me where the 'snobbery' lies in that? And quite frankly, 'fraud' is not an accusation that should be thrown around lightly.
Brand snobbery, pure and simple. As for fraud, of course it is a major reason for people to use a fake decal. It's the first step anyone would take in trying to pass something off. I don't think 12StringBassist was lightly throwing accusations around, just stating the obvious, which, in turn, has elicited a very strange response from a moderator.
20.
This is the amp that persuaded me that guitarists didn't need valves, although it's still a minority opinion.
It is quite a convincing argument. I'd happily gig it, and it sounds a lot better than the Blackstar in our local rehearsal room. Not sure what it would be like for high gain overdrive, but for crunchy blues/classic rock it is perfect.
21. Happy Birthdays are for clown whore entertainers only
22. Ah, the curse of Smoke on the Water! Try sitting out for the first 8 bars and then come in (with the correct line) and hear the difference it makes. Just a hunch, not coming from any great level of expertise, but to me this could be a good way of understanding how the two parts work together.
23. Fair enough, but that puts a very different perspective on your original post, and much more worthy of the moan!
24. In fairness to the promoter, you have specified "at least". With the amount of confusion there is over watts and impedance, even without a language barrier, the 500w 4ohm could be considered more than you requested in that it would potentially deliver more volume.
25. Both tracks excellent. Fabulous arrangement and Sibyl Hofstetter has a wonderful voice. I'm going to echo what Dad3353 said though, in that I found the low-fi elements a little harsh, and would have personally felt a cleaner, smoother mix would have suited the vocals and the compositions more. Just a personal opinion of course, and not enough to put me off a couple of great tracks.
