1. And sold to lee650, thanks fella!
2.
You'll get less with flats.
This is a common misconception with flats, but so much of it depends on the string. Sure, some flats are all thump and no sustain, but La Bella and Lakland (made by GHS I believe) flats have mwah for days on a fretless, and plenty of sustain on a fretted too.
3. Evening all Wals and some other boutique basses have these nifty inserts that hold the screws that hold the control plate cover in place I'd like to fit them to another of my basses, so does anyone know where these can be sourced? Cheers Gareth
4. Just purchased Ash's Bassbone. A pleasure to deal with, with truly great communication all the way. I recommend him most highly!
5. They'll certainly get smoother as you play them more, but I doubt very much they'll get any brighter.
6. Excellent A/B pedal for switching between two instruments. No batteries required. Only selling as I am stepping up to the Radial Bassbone. All details here Boxed in excellent condition. Usually £50 new, I'd like £30 collected from NE Hants or Central London, or £35 posted
7. Lovely bass, keen price. Good luck.
8. If you like it how it is, leave it alone. If you do decide to sell then it's up to the new owner to decide what to do.
9. Couple of decent trade options came through last night, but I would want at least £1k in crisp and folding in any "trade plus cash" deal.
10. I think D'Addario Chromes must come close Marc.
11.
Quite right on all counts. That said.... I think that's the latest date I've seen with that gorgeous splodgy tort, spiral saddles and 'those' tuners.... but not the highest serial number - but serial numbers had the wildest range of any feature around that time. Really great price, Walbassist - I really can't see this hanging around too long, not even in this financial climate. Superb example of a gorgeous bass. Shame you have to let it go, but have a good luck bump on me.
Thanks for this!
12.
This was quite heavily relic'd, and after seeing pictures, I was a bit shocked to find it looking very artificial. It looked like a chisel had been used on it, then left. Not sure if its my thing at all.
Is it this one on the website? If it is I have to say the aged process doesn't look anything as well done as my new VT5.
13. I've now fitted these to my 70 fretless and my Sandberg PJ5. Very very nice, not so fast out the packet as the La Bellas, but they wear in quickly and just sound great. And two sets for just over the price of one La Bella? No brainer!!!
14. Hi guys Just re-read my original post and I wasn't clear... it's only the fretted note at the 12th fret that's a touch sharp when setting the intonation. I tweaked the truss rod when I changed the strings last night: I've checked it again just now and it's fine (same as when the bass had rounds on) Cheers Gareth
15.
I don't have any problem with flats & I've tried several, favourites being GHS Precision Flats, which I believe are Sandbergs, so not a common problem IMO. Not wishing to offend - are you bending the string over/behind the fret when checking the tuning? Is the action a bit high? Just thinking maybe they don't 'bend' as easy as rounds, streching/changing length more & giving a bad reading when intonating, dunno just thinking out loud really
Hi John Thanks for that. Just spent a little time playing around and it seems better this morning. Just about nailed it on all strings now. Cheers Gareth
16. So I have just fitted a set of Lakland flats on my Sandberg VT5. They sound and feel great, the tension is perfect, but I can't seem to get the intonation right. I can tune the bass and nail the harmonic no problem, but fretted notes always seem sharp. Is this common with flats? I don't remember it being an issue with La Bellas or D'Addarios in the past. Do they just need to stretch in? Cheers Gareth
17. Yes, go for it. I took delivery of this last week and it is just fantastic.
18. I sold Alex a P bass wiring loom. Faultless communication and speedy payment. Highly recommended

Rumple

Another smooth transaction has recently gone down between Dave and yours truly. Once again, a pleasure to do business with.
20. Interesting. I feel the Status were lower tension that the equivalent La Bella set. My Lakland strings arrived yesterday and are going on the bass tonight, so will report back later.
21. Tung Sol or JJ are perfectly decent modern valves. If you want to have less gain try a 12AT7(ECC81), which puts out about 40% gain that the standard 12AX7(ECC83). You can go vintage, but that will push the price up quite a bit....
22.
Any idea what the 'C' means on that third Brimar?
No idea I'm afraid, but it looks to have the same internals.
23. One of the few rigs I truly regret selling. I had the very same set up and it was, quite simply, the biz...
24. Easy for me. My YOB bass, a dots and binding 1966 sunburst Jazz with lollypop tuners.
25. Great heads these. I love mine.
