1. Hello, and welcome!
Options are 550 touring combo 2X10 550 watt (spyder) or the MAG 300 2X10 300 watt combo.
Of those two, the Sypder 550 wins hands down. No contest.
2. Dave bought two valves from me. Quite a small transaction but handled with the minimum of fuss: great communication, fast payment. I would be delighted to deal with Dave again.
3. I don't have one yet, but a VT5 will be winging its way to me when it's finished in November In the meantime, I'm sure TRBboy will be along to give you all the skinny....
4. Personally, I don't like it. If you are going to relic, I prefer the subtle look...
5. Had hoped to attend, but as my daughter is swimming in her first national champiosnhip that day I think I'd better attend that instead!
6.
Can you tell me more about that bass Walbassist? I guess it's pre-CBS, Don't think I have seen one with those type knobs, only the old stack knob Jazz's? I have a spare set of covers lying around, looking at yours make me want to put them on my CIJ P fretless.
Without wishing to hijack Nick's thread, it's actually a 1970, which is the first year they made fretless basses. Clarky is correct that the bass had a P Retro fitted when I took this photo, but I have since sourced a set of orginal pots, so it's now back to stock. Cheers Gareth
7. Hi, is this still available?
8. +1 to that. Big fan of the fretless P myself.....
9. Hi Dave I'm glad my video was a help! I have two Mullard 82s from the 80s that you could have, also a nice Brimar and a JAN-GE from the US. Also have two sets of EL84s if you fancy beefing up the power section - a set of vintage Sovteks and a set of vintage Philips. Drop me a PM if you would like any? Cheers Gareth
10. HI there Marc is correct, the two preamp valves are the ones to the left as you look at the amp from the front. I fitted two NOS Mullard ECC81s, giving about 60% of the standard ECC83's gain, that cleaned up the sound up perfectly for me. Ashdown recommend an ECC82 as the driver. I have a number of NOS valves that I bought for my LB30 if you fancy buying them off me Cheers Gareth
11.
I had a brief go on this at [s]Nick[/s]Dave's once, lovely bass
12.
It seems the Spyder has a surprisingly pleasant amount fo clarity and warmth from what I've heard
Yep that's it. Clean, yet warmer than the ABM I used. Also, to my ears, it just had more presence in the live mix. Band preferred it too.
13. I owned both in quick succession, and much preferred the Spyder's core tone.
14.
If I can get one at the right price I probably will.
How about this, a rack mount UK made one?
15. The Spyder is a great head, why not pick up another?
16.
Love the sound of the bass Gareth, Does the bass have any side position markers at all, Lines or dots.
Thanks! Side dots only, at the "fret" position.
17.
Gone to me dudes.
Well done you! I was hoping to go for this but work's been so busy I didn't get the time to audition
18. I have mine on order, should be with me early November: California VT (that's a PJ pickup configuration to you and me) Fretted 5 string Rosewood board with dots Three tone sunburst with tortoisehell scratchplate Hardcore aged (to match my 70 fretless P) 34" scale Can't wait! Cheers Gareth
19. Started with Schallers and later moved to Dunlops. Of the two I much prefer the latter, but these days use the plastic Dunlop locking discs, which seem just fine.
20. Hi Rich I would tread very carefully if I were you. If a deal sounds to good to be true.... Cheers Gareth
21. The fellas you want are here
22.
I'm seriously thinking as much as I love this bass, it's the neck and body colour that does it for me, and I have to wonder why I am wanting to pay all that much extra to have it in a trashed condidtion. I am kinda thinking, how about not smashing the crap out of it and saving some cash too.
According to the Sandberg website, the Marlowe bass is 1847 euros. A standard passive TT is 1123 euros and block inlays would add another 183.
23.
You need to speak to Alan Greensall at Synergy Distribution, the UK Distributor. I got prices from Thomann, Session Music, etc, but Alan has helped me get the deal I want through a UK seller. It seems much more straightforward dealing with a UK company, and far easier if there's any problems. Alan has also been very, very helpful advising me of the possibilities, and answering all of my relentless questions!
This...
24.
I wonder where they got the idea for the scratchplate?
Probably from a Telecaster guitar!
25.
What are people thinking of these now? Honeymoon period over? I was thinking about the TTE800, simply so I can have 500 watts into one cab, rather than say 350 into 8ohms that the TTE500 probably offers. Anyone tried the 800's yet? any noticeable difference in tone? Are these ok to be stored on their side? Tubes etc? Thanks Si
Morning Si I have to say, I am still loving mine! I believe they are 300 watts at 8 ohms, but it's a very loud 8 ohms (I have yet to turn mine up beyond 9 o'clock, even at a gig!) Haven't heard the digital 800 yet. Tubes are well seated so I see no reason why it couldn't be stored on its side, but the amp is light and could be knocked over easily, so ideally tucked into a small space. Cheers Gareth
