    DIY Effects

I've downloaded KiCAD and have been having a play. Drawing a schematic was very straightforward, but it's going to take me a while to work out how to untangle the resulting rats-nest on the PCB

Ideally freeware/shareware, certainly to start with. I'm only dipping a toe in the water ATM.

Questions for any UK DIYers who design/use their own PCBs... 1. What design package do you use, and 2. where do you get them made? I understand there are quite a few prototype mfrs. out there, could do with some recommendations.
  4. Part Of The Union - Strawbs
  5. Alas, a lucrative dep gig on the Saturday night means that I might not now be able to make it to the SWBB after all.
  6. Bonkers - Dizzee Rascal
  7. Drink Up Thee Zider - Adge Cutler & the Wurzels
  8. Dirtbox - Static X
  9. The Portamento is the best off-the-peg fretless bass I've ever played, by some margin. I tried a 5-string one at Guitar Village once and my credit card was screaming at me the whole way home. If I had a regular fretless gig, I would get one without hesitation.
  10. Everybody is missing the obvious choice for an English national anthem -- as proposed by the Big Yin:
  11. Happy Ending - Mika

  14. No, you're thinking of the "Trashiest, worst-written books I have ever read" thread.
  15. Torch Song - Marillion
  16. Yes, very. I do hope that someone had a little chat with him about that. The sort of chat that begins with "I want a word with you" and ends in "ouch".
  17. Yes, I think this is probably the one to have. I was hoping the Varta would do a similar job for less ££, but it seems not.

    Ashdown Pedal of Doom

They could make their pedals a lot smaller if they didn't insist on using that silly VU meter on them.
  19. Indeed. We've played a few Young Farmers' parties (always a scream) and college balls and so on in the past, and everything trip-overable and knock-downable has always been very securely fenced off or nailed down or both. Where there's a likelihood of high alcohol consumption by exuberant punters, I think it's the only way.
  20. Yes, I live about a mile down the road from the rugby club
  21. Was that the Beer & Cider festival in Nailsea?
  22. Yes I thought it might be something like that. Ah well, it was a nice idea while it lasted. This bit wouldn’t be a problem. There are USB to 2.1 centre pos cables available, 10 minutes with a soldering iron and some wire & plugs and hey presto it’s a centre neg daisy chain
  23. I’ve noticed this rechargeable Varta thingy on Thomann, and was wondering if it could be used as a pedalboard supply? The implication seems to be that yes, it could, as the specs show the USB outputs rated as "5V / 3A, 9V / 2A, 12V 1.5A". Which is jolly good, but I can't see for the life of me how the desired output voltage is selected. Anybody got any ideas? https://www.thomann.de/gb/varta_wireless_power_bank_10000.htm
  24. Late afternoon 45 min slot at "Tetfest" (free music festival in Tetbury, Gloucs). Open air gig, my god it was hot but at least it was under cover. We played well, crowd loved us judging by the cheers and dancing. Suave, elegant, sophisticated... Yes, those are definitely words.
  25. Outdoor gig today... I'm gonna fry 😰

    But hey, it's a gig 😃

I'd rather fry than get wet.
