You've gotta be brutal. Just apply two criteria... 1)are you likely to use it, and 2)are you really actually sentimentally attached to it. If not, flog it, and ignore any thoughts of "yeah but it's nice to have around"... It's the only way to shift things.

Last time I went to the Bristol SC they had a very good stock of quality basses, I was impressed... but I got attitude by the bucketload from the guy behind the till when I asked for some strings. He tried to sell me Rotosounds and then implied that I was some know-nothing bozo because I said that I didn't like Rotos. I left the shop stringless, haven't been back. Went to Rikkaxe and was sold what I asked for.

I like the body shape v.much, but the headstock is a definite afterthought. Looks like he spent all week designing the body, and then scribbled the headstock on as he was going out the door to the pub on the Friday afternoon.

You can get a huge range of marquetry veneers on the Bay, usually very cheap too. So you could get a matching or a contrasting wood. Most veneers prove to be a nice reasonably snug fit too (but not so snug that you have to hammer 'em in). You'll need to file down the nut slots a bit too. Are you going to put a sealing finish on the board to harden it up a bit? I've heard that repeated applications of danish oil are pretty good (think it was bt68 who passed that one on..?).

I tried one once and hated it TBH. Mind you, I only had about half an hour in its company. At the time, it struck me as being ten fuzzes, a crap synth and a couple of useful toys in a box. I dare say if I had time to get used to one, I'd find it a lot better than that though.
