1. *slap* sort the flat out first. You can sit and play bass in a house, but you can't live in a bass amp (possible exception of an 8x10 combo).
2. Sheesh. That headstock is a face only a mother could love.
3.
Loads of u guys use Yammys, Ive tried a few in shops and been totaly underwhelmed, by the sound, and presence let alone the lack of mystique of say a Fender and indeed any future residual value. Please put me right.
I have a Yam bass, it's a lovely instrument. I've been very impressed with all the Yams I've ever tried. I see you have a '75 Precision. Well last time I played a Fender P-bass, I hated it. What, I thought to myself, is all the fuss about. Funny thing, this differing individual taste, innit?
4. Well I'm in a 13-piece band, so let's face it I'm never going to make any money out of it ... but I'd sooner cut off my nads with a teaspoon than give up simply because of that. Don't sell up completely. Keep a bass and an amp of sorts, even if it's only a wee one. I guarantee if you sell it all, you'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow etc.
5. I use an Antex Gascat butane gas iron for everything, it's bloody marvellous. Use it anywhere, no mucking about with mains and such... just the job for that emergency cable repair at the soundcheck. It's brilliant for heat-shrink sleeving too. I've got several different tips for it ranging in style and size, so I can use the one iron for lots of different jobs. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I like to use a tiny bit of flux here and there... I know modern multicore solders have flux in them, but for some things a little bit extra really helps the solder flow and makes for a clean joint.
6.
Horace Panter's "Ska'd for Life" is a much more relevant book for me having grown up in that era and loved the mod/ska scene. Interesting insight into the personal and emotional fragility of the band during the Ska explosion of 79-81.
Hey Tony, They were my years too... ah, the ol' loafers and harrington and pork pie hat..! you'd recommend Horace's book then?

10. Asking the guy to take the time to do a quick 'hello' in the introductions section does not constitute a hostile greeting. People are right -- if you're going to sell kit here, the least you can do is say 'hi'... otherwise it might as well be Loot.
11. Starts to look like it doesn't it? Mate, if you're going to advertise stuff you really need to keep an eye out for interested responses and deal with them pronto. Also, as said in your other Sale posting, a quick 'hello' in the Introductions section wouldn't go amiss.
12.
Si Thanks for the plug - yep Bass Direct will be having a stand at Music Live. All basschatters are welcome. We will have some cool gear on display and to play including the Bergantino speaker range, the PJB combos and some basses from Roscoe, Nordstrand and Wood & Tronics. We may have some deals too - oh and you get a free jelly baby Mark
Bloody hell, at last, something worth going to a music show for. Nice. I still won't be going though... diary clash. Si, lots of pics please. :-D
13. +1 for the Procells. Like synaes said, you can pick them up for peanuts on fleaBay -- the last lot I bought were 10 for £7.
14. The best combination I've ever had was Ken Smith bass (borrowed, unfortunately) into Eden head. The two are made for each other.
15. The last show I went to was basically two hours on the road for little more than overly-loud software demonstrations and a huge bunch of spotty teenagers trying desperately to out-widdle each other. And the ones on the guitars were even worse. There was almost nothing of interest bass-wise, the sole exception being the good Doctor with his E-Basses. Apart from that it was a low-end desert. I wouldn't have minded picking up a bargain, but all I left with was the prospect of a two hour journey home. So I won't be going to this one.
16. Having identified a Les Paul, he's obviously a muso of some sort.... he's probably feeling all insecure cos he's realised how sh*t his own band are. Obviously a coward with a dick the size of a gherkin. Ask him when his band are playing next, so you can go along and then slag them off afterwards too.
17. Spoiled only by the ladies in the background swapping makeup tips and hilarious sexual anecdotes about their boyfriends...
18. My experiences of Barto pickups are not inspiring either. Is it worth considering a pickup swap too?
19. A dead easy example of the one+groove thang is the Prince tune 'Head'. Dead easy to learn, but an object lesson in funkygroovaliciousness.
20. Why, what have they done to you?
21. Why is it that female bassists can look so much cooler than guys?
22. *deafening silence of people queuing up to disagree, not*
23. Alex, your guitarist is an utter twat.
24. These pedals are worth at least £4000. Sorry, couldn't resist. +1 on them being better than the OC3.
25. I quite like the question on the Bass Player mag's 'Introduce Yourself' section, "what was your lightbulb moment?". I think it'd be a good one for pretty much every player.
