1.
You could get arty with even the cheapest of compacts (well, almost ) but it's as much a case of working on technique and developing your own style.
Is true. I took these on an old Sony digital point'n'shoot that cost me 40 quid on fleaBay. Quite pleased with 'em. 2. I'm going to shift this extraordinary instrument to the Porn section if that's OK.
3. I've been using 40-130 steels for ages -- Warwick Reds, £13.30 a set for 5 strings! now that's cheap -- but I'm experimenting with heavier nickels at the moment. I'm currently trying Hartke 45-105 with an additional D'Addario 130, but I'm also going to try D'Add XLs in those gauges and will probably give Warwick Yellows and Elites Players a try too. I'd be interested in any views or recommendations! Whatever make I finally go for, the heavier gauge is definitely a good move -- a beefier sound and a nice tension -- and I'm liking the feel and tone of nickel too.
4.
haha i've just seen on facebook, the organiser has changed her status to "HELP! anyone know of anyone who has a drum kit i could borrow tomorrow night?! Please please please help!"
So it's not "HELP! one of the bands has dropped out from tomorrow night's gig!"..?
5. I keep my Shuker as clean and undinged as possible. It was mint when I got it, and I want to keep it that way. It doesn't make me anal. My Ibanez 6 is a beaten-up piece of crap. It was that way when I got it (cheap) -- consequently, the only bit that ever gets cleaned are the strings and fingerboard, the rest is scruffy and will stay that way. It doesn't make me a lunatic or kitten-abuser.
6.
How much is the GB 6.0? I'm not sure what it is, but there is a weight limit for carry on luggage.
I don't think weight will be a problem. I've got paperback books that are heavier than my 6.0
7.
Couldn't resist messaging the guy and suggesting that if Big John sold it too you around that price, the maybe he is "a robbing git in his own underpants"
Oh god, you didn't did you? That's torn it. Big Jon will be coming round to yours now to punch your head in. 'Cos he can do that sort of thing, you know. 'Cos he's a legend. And Big. And he has underpants. Run, run away now, while you still have the chance.
8.
So you cant bring friends, you cant drink, you have to hide in the back but you also have to go to a lot of effort for others, and i bet you wouldn't even make any money.
Yeah, but apart from that, it'll be a great gig...
9. Three things. 1. If anyone has a problem with an advert, please PM the seller rather than make public comments. See guidelines for details. 2. Posting in BLOCK CAPS is very bad forum etiquette. Please avoid it. 3. Is this still for sale? If not, please change the thread title to include the word 'WITHDRAWN'. Thanks all!
10. Peggy is a total legend. We are not worthy.
11.
a few weeks ago one of my mates told me he's got a friend making a complete and utter fcking horlicks of organising a couple of gigs, and she's looking for bands. so he gives her my number and a link to our myspace, and she says she likes our band and do we want to be subjected to her incompetence [s]play[/s]. so i checked with my band, and we were booked to play at a pub this coming saturday.
Corrected for you What a farce. A career as a promoter does not await her.
12. Bloody good issue, brownie points all round. But I can't work out quite why Nick Wells got so excited about the "innovative" bridge on the Dingwall bass... someone should tell him just how long separate bridge units have been available! And yes, I would very much like to try a Dingwall too now..!
13. The mere fact that I now know about Big Jon means that all my basses are now worth 5% more than they were 10 minutes ago.
14. Question Time in Basildon? Oh god, the mind boggles

Mistakes

The awful bass towards the end of KC & The Sunshine Band's 'Please Don't Go'. As if the song wasn't toe-curling enough, the bassist's timing evaporates completely at one point and he appears to compensate by plucking really hard, with nasty distorted results. And thus, a grim song becomes grimmer.
16. Whenever I see this pic of this extraordinary bass, I start wondering if perhaps I should have gone for a gloss finish on my Shuke rather than the satin one. That top is beautiful.
if it's black, and it's a board, who am I offending by calling it a blackboard? Especially as if it's white and it's a board I'm allowed to call it a whiteboard.
Errm, you're not offending anybody... that's actually what I was getting at when i said that the basic concept of PC is a good one unless it is taken to extremes (e.g. your blackboard example, which as far as I am aware is very much the exception rather than the norm -- it certainly never happened at my school in the 80s).
17. Very often Stewart Lee is a prize twat, and I'd rather eat my own liver than watch his TV show, but christ he was bang on the money with that quote. Yes, PC does go mad sometimes, but only at its extremes. The likes of the Daily Mail would have you believe that everything about PC is wrong and evil and designed to turn the so-called white middle classes into oppressed minorities. Utter bollocks. At heart, it is a good thing... it's just that some people don't know when to stop. I'm old enough to remember when the Race Relations Act was first discussed and then introduced in the mid 70s. Incredibly, it was coloquially referred to at the time as the 'N*ggers W*gs and C**ns act' -- such were national attitudes then, even within certain sections of the media. Imagine if absolutely no forms of PC existed, no anti-prejudice legislation or race relations legislation, nothing. Imagine that? the BNP can.
18. http://www.soul-destroyers.co.uk/index.htm Cool venue, daft band. No-one gets out without dancing. £8, tix available from various places. Venue website is here.
19.
I would rather look at a girls m*nge than a bass. Sorry.
Good for you. There are hundreds of sites that will help you out with that. This isn't one of them. Sorry.
20. Ask yourselves a simple question... how far would any of this sh*t have got on Talkbass.com? You think it's overly-PC here, that people jump at nothing and have no, ahem, 'sense of humour' here? Try a MILF thread over there and see what happens.
21.
I think if someone would genuinely choose bass over their wife, then they need to be seriously looking at their relationship!
I think if someone is given an unreasonable ultimatum, then they need to be seriously looking at their relationship too.
22. That is stunning. One of the few basses I GAS for these days. Whoever you are, Buyer, enjoy it you lucky git
