1. Not that I'm particularly well educated in jazz but I'd have to disagree with that. Surely making the changes your own and what and how you choose to play through them is what jazz is about?
2.
Summertime. Actually, the past 5 posts give you the requisite material to gig successfully for the rest of your life.
Cheers, that's the plan haha!!
3. I have searched for this but found threads about Jazz basses and Corvette Stds haha, I'm just looking for a couple of jazz standards that have fairly common chord changes that can be applied to a fair few songs. Thanks in advance!
4. That makes sense, I'll give it a go!
5.
BRX in "Marcus Miller knows nowt about bass playing" shocker!!
aaaaaaaahahahahahaa
6.
I can highly recommend this site- http://www.practicesightreading.com/ A midi file which plays each random, customly created exercise is provided so you can check yourself. Very cool.
Just after I've ordered a book too haha. Sounds good mate, I'll defo check it out
7.
Purchased
Snap! Good to know I'm not the only one struggling with this too!!
8. I'm pretty new to the Jazz bass world too but if I was you I'd be speaking to Sei. Good basses, custom and English built! www.seibass.com
9. I'd give it a normal J pickguard to cover the gap around the neck pickup
10. I vote for black, or anything dark What body is that??
11. Thanks for all the replies. Tapping out the rhythm sounds like a good idea, my problem is though I don't know if I'm doing it right and theres not much point practising something wrong?
12. What's with all these tasty cheap Warwicks and me having no money???
13.
i kinda want to try something else in my streamer, prob not for a year or so when I have money How does it work with a SC pup in the bridge? not too hummey?
Not that I've ever noticed!
14. Thanks for the replies. I think I'll try an check out one of them books, do they come with CDs? I appreciate the comments about it taking time and to have patience but if I don't know how to do something I don't think any amount of patience will make me learn it, I think I'll just still be stuck!
15. I've decided (or more had it pointed out to me on these forums!) that I need to be able to read music. I know the basics, as in can name the notes on the stave and I'm pretty sure I know whats what when it comes to the length of the note/rest. I've started on session one in the Major's Bootcamp and I do ok up until the last section where the rhythms get slightly more interesting and I really struggle to put it into practice. Has anyone got any tips on how to get over this little hurdle? Thanks!
16.
In the same vein, has anyone here got any contacts or companies they would recommend for cruise ship bass playing? I quite fancy doing it for a bit after I graduate.
I'm a member or starnow.com and they seem to have a fair bit of it available, I've never enquired though so couldn't tell you how good the gigs are though.
17. Yeah by session I don't mean just studio, I basically mean people calling me up wanting to give me money to play my bass! Which I know is far down the road and very hard to come by but I know it's not impossible.
18.
If it's done wrong you can certainly muck up the overall capacitance of the bass which will do horrid things to the sound. But done correctly and with attention to detail there's no reason not to shield out the entire bass. I'm sure I've posted these before but here are a couple of mine....
In that pic I can see the little bits sticking out for the bridge, that's one part I've never quite understood though. Do you have to have a piece of copper from a cavity with electronics in it to the bridge or just one at the bridge? Sorry it's quite hard to explain because I've got no idea what I'm talking about!
19. I don't ever use it but if it's good enough for Sir Paul! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obFcsEtFIKA
20. Thanks for the reply mate, I did have a feeling the answer that came back was going to be along the "It's not what you know..." lines. I'm just wondering how to even get on the radar for these people! Sitting in on sessions would be a good idea, I'll give Parr St a call and see what they say!
21.
MEC's have a certain tone to them, for some people and some types of music they are great. For others less so.
I've got MECs in my fortress and haven't ever thought about changing them, on the other hand though I'm dying to get them out of my corvette!
22. I'm in the process of putting together a musicians CV complete with demos, youtube links etc, with a view to get some session work out of it. My question is though, who would I be best off sending it too? Would it be labels, management companies, studios, all of the above or someone else entirely? Cheers!
23.
Double necked guitars always look like something alien that's come out half-baked from John Carpenter's The Thing
Good aren't they
