    I've been playing a 5'er for a few years and recently sold an old 4 string (well traded) as I tried the 4 string at a rehearsal with one band and then at a gig on the same night kinda back to back and I just missed the low B. I actually traded for another 5er and sold my Lakland JO5 but only as it was a Dingwall PZ5 which was too good to miss. Basically if you love the 5'er keep it. If you can borrow a 4 string Jazz and take it to the gig/rehearsal and see how it feels back to back playing the 4 then the 5 I'd recommend it.....otherwise it's GAS. Good luck!

    I put some Dimarzio Model J's in mine but that was purely as I wanted hum free and a hair more P bass sounding tone. If you like the jazz sound stick with it as is. If you wanna change something just for the sake of it or to give it your own mark then by all means. I'm not sure what to suggest but Bart's are great (they will take away from the vintage look though). As for the tuners again they're fine and they work, changing them will kill the look but that's a personal choice again. Only issue I ever had was having the RW Jazz stolen and when playing the replacement bass tuning the wrong direction in a gig and then struggling to get back in tune as I'd bamboozled myself my tuner had been nick too so couldn't silent tune to fix it! Good luck whatever you decide!

    I'd my Combi at a gig on Friday night and like you guys the neck is sooo comfy! I'm lucky that my other 5'er is a PZ5 but it's a tough call to pick which is 'better' they're both great but in different ways.

    Its heavy but a quick, loud, responsive amp. I've also played the M6 head and again its louder quick and responsive. If you can mange the schlep then go for it I giggled mine in a 4 piece pub gig and it was balls loud for that (we had pa support) I'd play an M6 all week long - its a more modern sounding head than the walkabout and 'quick'. If you can get one at good price its worth a punt.

    I'm liking the idea of learning cello pieces! Phone apps downloaded, books will be checked out onWed after my cheeky half day as I'm on a course from work and currently working on cycle of 5th's stuff. It's all making sonic sense!

    I'm in the fortunate position to own a combustion and a Super PZ5 and they're both wonderful. The P5 has a really comfortable neck profile, it's lightweight and has a great p bass sound for what I do. The combustion is equally as comfortable and the neck again feels fantastic. The longer scale length is noticeable but not in a bad way and the resulting clarity is pretty impressive. The pick up and switching system offer a great range of tones and the eq really allows you to change things up to suit the tune. My combi is for sale purely as the Super P is more suited to what I do and I'm more inclined to that p bass tone. I will say that the choir gig I have fits the Combi really well where I can change tones to suit a myriad of styles.

    I'm thinking of starting to actually learn music theory stuff as I'm a bit hopeless at it. About 10 yrs ago I started writing out the parts of songs my band wrote while doing the 1 hour bus journey to visit family with the view to giving the written parts to a friend who could read... i got the parts all written but never gave them to my friend to play. I've thought if I dedicate the time spent looking at basses and amps on BC into actually learning some music theory I'd be a better player in about 3 weeks Now the clocks have changed music theory and learning how to swim properly are top of my to do lists! This book is getting bought! Alo is the GCSE syllabus book any good?

Please don't offer me your computer as a trade **Pictures attached at the bottom** Got this 3 colour sunburst/rosewood neck'd beauty recently in a trade but its a bit too modern for my old ears. I'd initially thought it would compliment my P5 and while it does I find myself gravitating back to the P sound! The ear wants what the ear wants and I can happily live with the P5. This is a great sounding bass which has a 4 way selector giving: J bridge sound, MM type sound, mid forward MM type sound (basically series and parallel humbucker tones) and a P neck sound but all with the Dingwall touch. This is combined with a 3 band EMG pre amp (Bass, Mid, Treble) and an active/passive on/off switch. The EQ frequencies are set at[list] [*]Bass 20hz (+/-12db) [*]Mid 1khz (+/-10db) [*]Treble 7.5khz (+/-12db) [*] [/list] I've been using this bass in a choir which covers everything from soul and motown to modern chart tunes and it can handle all styles in it's stride. The scale length isn't a problem especially if your familiar with a 35" scale and the fanned frets are a cinch - you really don't notice after a few minutes. What is noticeable is the clarity and power of the B string, all the strings really. The bass sounds massive and clear and at a wedding gig last weekend I really noticed the added oomph into my 212 cab. Made the 35" Super P 5 sound 'muddy' in comparison...well kinda The bass is really well built, very comfy - think more J style neck than P and you're in the correct ball park - and massive tone. It's important to note that the neck pick up can be moved back a bit in the route to the 'Nolly Getgood' NG-2 position - the bass is pre-routed as both the NG-2 and combustion share the same basic body shape. If you did this you would need to get another pick guard to accommodate it. See pic's attached. If you're interested and in Edinburgh come try it out.
