  1. @funkle finally someone got the reference nearly three years later. Probably too much of an ‘in reference’!
  2. Alright cuzzie you made your point
  3. Allow me to direct your attention to the 'Show us your pedal board thread' if you're after some willy waving
  4. Without a doubt @JapanAxe I find it funny when people talk about heavy 4.5kg+ 5 string basses! Lighter basses are more resonant and responsive and all this talk of sustain- it’s great to have a bass which will feel lively and responsive in the hand when playing but I’ve never yet needed a bass to sustain a note for ‘that long’ and definitely not on a soul or Motown classics! I’m not needing a 5’er just now but would happily play another one if the gig requires it especially if I could nab another Dingwall!! I had a lot of fun on my 5’er and it was my main gigging bass for quite a few years but have to say going from a Dingwall to a JMJ Mustang has been very rewarding. It’s always good to change things up and the JMJ just nails so many aspects of sound and feel which is really working for me right now. It’s funny as we spoke about Mustangs when we did the hand over/meet up for the Ding. I’m really digging the ‘stang!
  5. It's not 'festival' gig per se but the Edonburgh Fringe comedy festival is happening for the month of August and a lot of the up nad coming folk and 'free' gigs which are put on in bars and clubs across the city use the tip model and essential are non paid gigs. We only play bar gigs.
  6. I'd wondered if we tried this over the Edinburgh festival gig (in our regular venue) if it might generate some extra as there is a big culture of the 'tips bucket' for payment thing but it would be rude seeing as we do get an actual wage!
  7. I heard that no one wanted to go on first and Arlo kinda just went on!
  8. forward to 4:22 approx for string gauges.
  9. I’d saw on a video review the Spector basses came with (maybe historically) 43-122. I’ll see if I can find the source
  10. Did I hear somewhere years ago Spector use slightly different string gauges as standard over the more common 45-125 sets?
  11. Dingwall Super P5 Amazing neck with a modern flat radius and very comfy to play. It nailed the p bass tone and was a very well balanced bass. The B string was great as you’d imagine with a multi scale/fan fret bass and it felt very even across the neck with all strings feeling at the right tension which is something not often taked about with a multi scale bass. It was my main gigging bass for over 4 years and it was light and resonant and at 3.9kg just the right weight for a bass regardless of the amount of strings. Expensive yes and I’d never have been able to afford a brand new one but really a cracking bass. Dingwall combustion’s also have a good rep and a really comfy neck. If a smaller, more modern neck profile is your thing and you like the look they are worth trying out however they are certainly a more modern sounding and looking instrument!
  12. Sorry each band member got paid that figure!
  13. Three people recommending the unit. What more convincing do you need 😀
  14. They wanted us for a St. Patrick’s Day but we were already doing two gigs but we would have negotiated a price over and above the regular fee
  15. I hear the bottom cab doubles as a urinal!
  16. That’s just a great set of tunes to know even if your not gigging them on a regular basis. Stone Cold Classic’s!
  17. This is what I’ve discovered too. We get £200 for Stramash as a 4 piece. My mates band and there’s 6 of them get more but they’re a regular band there. We just did the occasional few gigs last year. I’m just wondering if some of the bigger bands were able to wrangle a bit more for more members especially if they guarantee a good crowd. As an aside I always wondered what the local band Porkpie get paid as there’s about 9 of them!
  18. Trust me I understand all too well! I'm just using that 'per head' as an example - we sometime do a trio gig and the bar offers the same rate for the three of us and it's not personnel dependent. I know some bars who appear to offer a flat fee but then I know folk in 'bigger' bands as in personnel and they get more money but also they're maybe more popular and the bar sales reflect this when they have them in.
  19. The take the plunge It's quite a tidy wee unit and if the current tone gubbin's ain't working for you it can be easily reverted back to stock if it doesn't work out.
  20. We were up in Thurso for country music thing and we got a bit more but I can't help but feel the sheer distance away meant they paid more - worked out at about £100 quid each (5 piece) but it was basically covering the petrol and our stay but I decided to go camping and used the time to go nab a Munro while I was up there but yeah I'd not be doing that again as a regular thing.
  21. Wonder what it’s like in and about London?
