Stellartone Tonestyler in my Dingwall Super P...
krispn replied to bassmayhem's topic in Bass Guitars
Yup with my modded p bass notch 3 and 4 work really well with that pickup. There’s great sounds across the full range but it’s got a really nice mid thing happening. It’s great upgrade especially if found for a bargain price.- 15 replies

Stellartone Tonestyler in my Dingwall Super P...
krispn replied to bassmayhem's topic in Bass Guitars
There’s a real sweet spot where the mids and the pick up just come into their own in my experience with the tone styler and I think that’s the secret with them. You’re fine tuning the tone to where best suits your ear and the bass/pick up which could happen multiple times with the tone styler.- 15 replies

I found playing the ‘Grunge’ classic’s in drop d on a 4 string way more fun and rewarding than playing on a five sting on the fretted low d. Just loses the feel of playing in drop d. Killing In The Name Of is another one which played on a 5’er is much less fun than on a 4 string in drop d!

The advantage of tuning a 4 string down a half step to match a down tuned guitar is that you get the ‘freedom’ of open strings especially if the songs are quite riff-y and are written ‘in E’. Playing in Eb on a ‘standard tuned’ 5’er means that most notes will have to be fretted and you can sometimes lose a bit of the feel especially on those big riffs. Tuning down might be preferable to buying a new bass unless you’re after a good excuse to make a new purchase 😉 A side note...The Smashing Pumpkins famously wrote their song “Today” in the key of Eb on guitars tuned in standard tuning not tuned down to Eb which many people assumed at the time.

We play finger style at the bridge so that my account for it. Closer margins at the bridge can leave some players feeling cramped due to a familiarity with the 'traditional' Fender spacing. Nut width seems more important to some up at the skinny end and that's when 'skinny' 'baseball bat' and 'chunky' start getting used.

No I'm not playing this year but i think one of the guys I work with might have been involved in organising it (he and his brother have been involved in previous years I think) and when I saw the poster at work I thought I might catch you guys. They're usually a good night out!
-
Jose I hope to see you guys at the SAMH gig at the end of the month - will you be providing the bass back line?
-
@CameronJ I think this was always gonna be a ‘limited production run’ model. In interviews JMJ has said that there isn’t a high margin on these models so maybe fender are shifting to the new range as the non relic alternative. What he said ^^

That F112 looks great and sounds like a very capable unit. Is your VK cab gone then? I thought it was highly rated by you and others or has the weight issue reared it's head again?

Well I can tell you’re in no rush to fire up your stomp if you’re saying a few months. Probably getting to grips with all those other pc editors right 😀 Yeah I’ll get a stomp sooner or later as the band have now committed to full in ears (importantly the drummer has!) But you know me I’m one of those impulsive bassist’s who insist’s on using new gear pretty much asap!

Have you tried hx edit yet? It’s pretty easy too
-
That’s quite interesting! What stands out as making it better? Would you say it’s your familiarity with the zoom which makes it easier or do you find the zoom more intuitive? *I should say with the zoom I mean ToneLib
-
@Al Krow having tried both the zoom software and the HX edit do you find one preferable to the other?
-
Ahh its just when you said people prefer to be able to edit on the fly I misunderstood what you were meaning.
-
This might be useful...

@Al Krow it looks like you’ve mistook what @GisserD said. “Vastly underestimate” is very different to to suggesting a “vast army of bass players” which GisserD never actually said You enjoy semantics as much as anyone but you’re putting words into his mouth here. @Al Krow you made a suggestion earlier in this thread.... “You'd be surprised how many Stomp / Helix LT / Helix Full Fat owners haven't ventured into HX Edit. Why do you think there is a regular stream of Helix's in the FS?“ unless you know a bunch of people who haven’t used the edit software before selling their units this is kinda baseless. I know you might be speaking form personal experience but I’d argue anyone I know with a stomp/hx/hxfx have all used the HX Edit software. Plus it’s weong to suggest you can’t edit on the fly with a stomp. Again I’m not sure why you think you can’t edit HX stomp on the fly or why line 6 would make a device which needed a pc to edit? The Stomp shares the exact same interface as the big HX just has a smaller screen and fewer knobs. If you haven’t yet mastered how to edit the stomp on the fly it’s about a 10 minute learning curve, possibly quicker with the manual on hand for reference easy and it certainly doesn’t require the software editor it’s just that using the software editor makes things much easier to read on a bigger screen and all a bit more immediate. I know you’re a huge fan of the Zoom editor you should give the line 6 a try. You might like it.

It’s pretty straight forward. If your unlikely to use the Native software then it’s not really of any value to you. If it’s something you can integrate into your normal workflow/music making/home rehearsal/practice then it might be worth the cost. I don’t see how it gets much more complicated. Personally I do all my music rehearsal/practice at home via laptop/headphones and as I noodle on guitar and some keys too this would be quite a tempting deal. I can see how it might not appeal to someone with an already heaving pedal hoard and a couple of existing multi fx units.

To have all the helix functionality in a daw for the price of one zoom pedal is a total no brainer!
-
-
Yeah having a full helix for my DAW would be cool!
-
@dannyboy I don't think @Al Krow means "studio" in the traditional sense and maybe more of a room where he plays his gear as opposed to doing a lot of on the computer recording/editing etc. @Al KrowIf there is a code going free for a cheap version of the Helix Native software I'll happily pay the £79 quid if you're not gonna use it!

Just putting the feelers out Why the change of heart on the stomp?

@Al Krow Can I have dibs on the Stomp when you get the Mooer
