1. Hi. I'm in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, and whilst I would love to include the postage (probably about £12-15), that wouldnt leave much left in the kitty at the end, sorry. Cheers, Bob
2. Clearing out again, I have a few instruction books, all in very good condition with the relevant cds where applicable. I dont really want to sell them individually, I just need the space, so I am looking for a budding multi-instrumentalist with £25 to spare please! The cover prices add up to over £90. They are: Bass Bible. A world history of styles and techniques by Paul Westwood. 2 cds included. The Complete Electric Bass Player. Book 1: The Method. Chuck Rainey. Beginning Bass Guitar. Introduces you to fills, walking bass lines, chords, scales and rock, country blues, jazz and funk styles. Peter Pickow. Teach Yourself Bluegrass Mandolin. CD included. Andy Statman. Rythm Guitar. A guide to the styles of rhythm and back-up guitar playing. Harvey Vinson. 1001 Guitar Tips and Tricks. Andy Jones and Arthur Dick. The Complete Rock & Pop Guitar Player. Books 1, 2 and 3. With chord chart. Mick Barker, Rick Cardinali and Roger Day.
3. Selling or trading a perfect condition Indie copy of a more well known bass. Forget the shape, it sounds nothing like the bass its trying to imitate, but really is a very nice bass in its own right. Very powerful pair of pickups with a "mystery" switch, which I have been told is actually mono/stereo but I havent the means to test it! Well set up and light, and as I said, pretty much as new. £200, or would swap for a micro amp head, possibly a GK MB200? I have also been trying to sell a Retrovibe Aero, which is a copy of a Fender Aerodyne, with Nordstrand pickups, but so far have had no interest, so might keep it. £225 would persuade me to sell? Thanks, Bob
4. As new Squier Tele, with Duncan Designed P90 pickups. Very light, unused (except for a bit of light strumming), and sounds really good with the classic P90 tone. Not a lot more I can tell you as I am a bass player! I bought it on a bit of a whim a couple of years ago, since when it has sat in a bedroom unused. There is no gig bag with this guitar, but I will pack it up well, and of course collection would be brilliant. NOW SOLD, thanks Mick. Cheers, Bob
5. Super deal with Scooby. Lovely P bass, as described, good price, no problems at all. I would love to do business with him again some time! Cheers, Bob
6. I just dont understand what there is to like about the OP? Yes his wrists and fingers are faster than a speeding bullet, but take out the show-off elements and the "tune" is minimal. I know its just a jam with a new drummer, but we dont record our jams (thank god!) for all the world to judge us by.
7. Has anyone else tried these? I have just fitted a set to my Kala SUB U bass, and what a difference they have made after changing from the standard strings supplied with the bass! They are white, and a bit thicker than the Kala strings, but a lot less "floppy" for want of a better word, far louder and robust in tone, and just easier to play. It doesnt look like they have anything like the tuning problems either. I am well impressed, and apart from a few problems fitting them (the E and A strings wouldnt quite fit in the locating holes in the bass, so I had to file the holes a bit bigger), would recommend them. I have a U Bass as well, but havent tried them on this yet, the SUB U being the little solid bodied model, but I'm sure they will fit fine, and are advertized by the makers (Aquilla) as being for all U Bass models. £27 from BassDirect. Worth every penny!
8. I think they must mean that its marginally cheaper than all 3 of those basses put together?
9. Bought Mike's Kala bass from him, and the deal couldnt have been any sweeter! Arrrived in super fast time, very well packed, a pleasure in every way. Cheers, Bob
10. Am I missing the point here? Why should ply be considered to be "cheaper" than solid wood? Does it devalue the bass in some way, when it is what it is, and maybe all basses made by this company were made of ply anyway? Karl couldnt have known without ripping the copper shielding out, and he is a thoroughly decent chap who wouldnt dream of twisting anybody. To pluck a figure of £50 compensation out of the air smacks of desperation to make something on the deal. Not fair and not decent.
11. Used to own one. Very nice bass indeed. Had an asymetric neck if I remember correctly, and a fabulous Bart pickup with a shedload of control options. I cant really remember why I sold it, except that it was quite beat up and I'm a bit of a tart when it comes to basses. I can remember filling in the missing bits of matt black finish with a felt tip pen..........
12. Beware the new frequency regulations. As I understand it, they make a lot of the older systems illegal now? My Stageclix is absolutely superb, and looks like its bomb proof.
13. Plays like butter is bad enough, but in the United States in America they always seem to say "plays like buttah". What the **** is buttah??? Also, why are a collective of young men or women who sing simple harmonies on stage called boy/girl "bands"? Surely a band has to play instruments of some kind?
14. Turned up to play in a golf competition at a posh golf course in Northern Ireland after a heavy night before and forgot my golf clubs................. I got interviewed by the local paper after I returned from playing with borrowed clubs, all different, and came next to last, and the tag line was "and they think we Irish are thick"!!! Didnt have anything to say in my defence. I know a guy who went beach fishing for Thornback Ray in the Bristol Channel, and after hiking a mile around Sand Point got tackled up, only to find that instead of the frozen mackerel bait he should have had, he had brought a bag of frozen sprouts.
15. Mrs Rowley Birkin can come and see my garden (front and/or back) in Tewkesbury any time she wants, but I'm not sure why my grass might be any different from Halifax grass? Have a great time in our lovely part of the country, Cheers, Bob
16. Warwick used t do (still do?) a fabulous piece of kit called something like the Rocktrolly. We have 2 of them, and they are extending solid things with pump up or solid wheels, that can carry 500lbs each. We have had many band races on them at the end of the night, so they can certainly carry a grown man with ease! pm me, and I might be peruaded to let you have one for a good price..........
17. Just had one of the simplest deals ever with Muzz. A great guy, and a pleasure to deal with. Heres to the next time! Cheers, Bob
18. Lets try that and see what happens........
19. I have an interesting Wal, built in 2009, which is the first one off the new run, but built, I am assured by the chap who commissioned it using an old stock neck, and body timbers from old stock as well. I bought it with the intention of fitting red neck leds (I have to have these, due to my poor eyesight in the dark following laser eye surgery that didnt go to plan), but everyone I spoke to said I was mad! It would plummet in value, look awful, not be a "proper" Wal any more, etc, so as a result, I put it under the bed where it has remained for the last year, untouched. As a result, its still a new bass, and I guess the sensible thing to do would be to perhaps think about putting it up for sale? I would be unbelievably nervous gigging with it, but as the first made following the break, does it have any special value do you think? I cant get these blasted photos to show...............
20. I'd be on this like an aggressive moss I always thought Kate was quite a submissive type of lady???
21. I cant believe all of these amazing times. I think the best we have ever done is about 2 hours!! Gear, lights, p.a., drums, seems to take forever to pack up at the end of the night when 75% of the band are tiddly, and always ends up with us playing "Giant Tetris In The Dark" trying to work out how to fit the stuff in a van and a people carrier that are only just big enough to fit the stuff in when its daylight and the band are 100% not drunk......
22. Any interest in a mint, black ABZ 4 string? I know you want a 5, so I'm sure I know the answer........ Its about time I learnt to play a 5! Cheers, Bob
23. Price reduced again. I really cant go any lower!
24. I cant believe what anyone could possibly dislike about fingerboard edge leds? They are a fantastic help on a dark stage, no one can really see them apart from you, (so they arent for show at all), and cost about £400 if you have them done by the best in the business. If they are going to be done properly by your chap, dont think twice!
