For me it's my current set up which is, 1986 Fender jazz special RH450 Trace Elliot 2x10 cab (coupled up to a RS210 when in bigger venues).

He's chosen a great song choice and put a really good twist to it to make it sound different. I like what he's done to the track,very clever. Good luck to him!

Back up to date! I'll have a few beers tonight and chill out listening to some choons from your pages....some really good bands out there

Killin' in the name of by Rage Against The Machine is our favourite....complete with swearing! We give the option of a clean version or the uncensored version and we havent played the clean one yet . It did feel strange hearing everyone joining in singing this with all the swearing! Not advisable for weddings though!

The people that inspired me to take up bass were mostly fretless bassists and yet i've never had one. I simply love the phrasings and the sound. I wished i got one when i first started learning bass and after many years of playing i still get the urge to get one and i have been looking around lately to see whats about....Damn you GAS! I must resist temptation

I liked this band back in the day,some really good basslines on some of their stuff...great vocalist as well. I never knew Pino did this bassline though and i'm a massive fan of his! Learn something new everyday!

For me i bought my first ever Fender...a Fender Jazz Special MIJ 1985/6. After playing bass for 25+ years and not ever owning a fender i got one of these and i really wish i got one sooner. I feel at one with it and i love the sound it produces, it suits my style perfectly.

'LIKED' several of these pages... its always good to support fellows members! Its also good to watch some of your youtube clips and see what you play on your fb page

There's certainly a wide genre of songs there JTUK! I think in time as with any cover band it will naturally find its niche in what its suited at and what everyone enjoys playing. There are songs in my set that i'm not keen on but when i listen to the tracks as we are playing them they do sound pretty good. I guess its the bigger picture. I must admit when we all like a song that we all enjoy playing thats when the magic happens and everyone 'feels it'. Thats kind of magical but i've never been in a band where every member loves every song. Stick with it and give it time to see how it developes

What an interesting thread, it certainly brought back memories back for me! My story is that i had no interest in playing bass whatsoever infact when my mates started a band they tried to talk me into taking up bass as there was a shortage of bassists. They infact bought me a battered old bass from an auction and it really was a heap of junk but i got hooked and i've played bass ever since. I was 15/16 at the time. What i found about myself looking back i was drawn to Duran,Pino and Talk talk...at this time it wasnt cool as my mates were into heavy metal. I did find i was picking up these basslines quite easy...infact i thought i must be playing them wrong as i did lack self belief when i first started. I never considered myself a bass player,just someone who played a bass. I join my first 'proper' band when i was about 18 and the musicians were all experienced and highly regarded on the circuit and they saw something in me and i've never looked back. I would say to anyone starting up to enjoy the instrument and take your time learning something.Everyone picks up bad habits so try and watch other bassists and dont be afraid to ask them any questions that may help you.Most of them are really helpful. Looking back i would also add that playing with musicians better than me really helped me and made me a better player.Work with the drummer is a must and try and work on making the bassline 'bounce' whether its a really easy bassline or more complex. We all fumble and hit brick walls in our playing at some point but it doesnt last forever,try learning a different style of music or playing as this opens more avenues for your playing. I'm 46 now and loving every minute i play!

The drummer is probably the most important member of a band IMHO. If he isnt very good nor will the band be. Many great bands have great drummers behind them. I find having a decent drummer makes songs easier to play and can inspire other members. A bad drummer will certainly not improve you as a player or indeed improve the track you are playing so for me i would leave the band or get another drummer.
