Just checking. When I've got a techincal problem, it's almost always something basic that I've overlooked.

Duff is good. Nice lines.

The Avalon and Countryman are highly respected and not a ridiculous amount of money. I have my EBS MicroBass II for a bunch of reasons but it's a fair DI. I also have an Ampeg SVT-DI - it's a fair valve DI. It sounds lovely for some bass guitars but maybe not all. I use the DI out of my Aguilar DB680 live and in the studio. The others are there live in case something goes wrong.

Hehe, that's funny. Q: Why do you think that? A: 'Cos Muse told me personally R: Yeah, well, me and some friends think something else. This might be a basic thing to check, if you haven't already: the Mix/Blend function on the Deep Impact. I have mine set all the way so that there's no original bass sound and only generated synth sound. The more you've got the mix/blend going the other way, the more subtle the effect will be.

Don't post your bass via Parcelforce/RoyalMail

I think you'd have a good claim for compensation up to the full value for a bunch of reasons. Without any of the documents, I can't help out though. If you could scan them and post them up here, I could have a look through them for you. -
Warmoth do replacement bodies in Walnut. I've had my eye on a Walnut Jazz body from them for over a year now. Just need some money!

Cocobolo and Zebrano look nice. That's basically why people love them. They sound good too but people pay a premium for them because of how they look. I don't understand why people don't use Walnut more. I want to get a custom Jazz with a Walnut body. Mmm... Walnut...

One problem with a lot of the presets on the guitar ones is that they're normally the modelled amp + several modelled effects tacked on. If you take all the effects off, the actual amp models aren't that bad - maybe about 70% accurate. I'd never use one live or in the studio though. I just prefer the sound of my bass preamp going direct or the sound of a good guitar combo with an SM57 in front.

We're from London and play on London's toilet circuit. You get some nice promoters/bookers, who are professional, hard-working and friendly - if you find them, keep them onside. You get some people who think their venue's more culturally significant than it really is - if you really want to play there, put up with a small amount of talk along the lines of "we're a prestigious venue with lots of international touring bands booked". If it makes them feel good about themselves being able to spout sh!t like that, let them. So long as you get the gig, right? Generally, we haven't dealt with anyone who's a complete c**t or criminal yet. All any promoter or booker cares about is whether you can draw a crowd, even if they like your music and won't rip you off. And on London's toilet circuit, if you're one of 4 bands on a bill, a crowd is 35-50 people, even in the Time Out-listed venues. So I can see why venues would be reluctant to book bands that have no fans in the area. You're not going to get many travelling fans. The only way around that is reciprocal gig-sharing ("come play support for us - we'll bring 100 people so you don't have to bring any - next month we'll play support for you and you bring the crowd").
Thanks for that guys!! The Funk - I'll not be down there on the 31st mate, thanks for the invite though. As for the gigs in Time Out...i spotted the 606 and Pizza express gigs, don't think either particularly appeal though, although the 606 is a wicked venue, saw Janek Gwizdala there last month...amazing! The night at the Notting Hill Arts club sounds quite cool though, has any heard any of the bands play, or been to the venue, if so, what are your thoughts? Jamie
Notting Hill Arts Club is wicked. Get down early and blag one of the only two tables there. Free entry before 8, and if you manage to get one of the two tables there, there's a hot blonde waitress who offers table service throughout the evening... that's table service, not dancing. I think my guitarist's friend is in the Soulquarians. Should be high quality stuff. And £0.00 is my kind of price tag.

I might as well hang a sign around my neck that says, "i am a complete bass geek". that's what my mrs thinks anyway!!!!
Man, where do I get one of those signs? EDIT: Donations please. The only internet subscriptions I want are for porn.

If there's an input gain control, turn it down. If there isn't one, turn down the volume on your bass. See if you can get a good sound with that. If that doesn't work, it could be anything.

Get a Jazz and chuck in a P-neck pick-up. Or get a P, chuck in a J-bridge pick-up and stick on a Jazz neck. Or get one that's already been done, either at the factory or later on.
Hi all, Just wondered...i'm going to be down in London this bank holiday Monday (28th May) and i'm looking for a gig to go to with a few friends, probably jazz/funk/soul sort of thing... Can anyone reccommend any bands that are playing on Monday, or any good venues worth contacting to see what's on? I'd like to check out the Mingus big band at Ronnie Scotts, but £36 a pop is a little too much Thanks in advance... Jamie
Blatant Plug Warning: Check out Foolish Earthlings on 31st May at Ginglik, Shepherd's Bush - funk/soul/rock band (mine). 1 free drink on me if you come down and introduce yourself. Same offer applies to all members of the basschat community at any of my gigs. Otherwise, I've heard there's a funk jam session at The Bedford in Balham most Monday nights. I don't know if it's good or crap though - never been.

I did a gig with my EBS Microbass II last night. For proper gigs, I want to take my full rig. For in n' out, little gigs with decent monitoring, the EBS works great - and I took all my stuff in just one standard gig bag.

Any damage to guitar amp/cab if using a bass with it?
The Funk replied to 1976fenderhead's topic in Amps and Cabs
The guitar amp might explode. Well, maybe not literally but you're likely to damage the speaker. A 50W valve guitar combo should manage fine against a 350W solid state bass amp. -
What he said

It depends on what kind of harshness you're getting. If it's just brightness, that could easily be a strings / EQ thing. If it's another kind of harshness, it could be dead/crap valves. If it's another type of harshness it could be a lot of other things. I'm rather jealous of your new acquisition btw. I have a DB680 which I wouldn't trade in for anything. I'd like a better power amp to go with it though.

I voted Warwick but I love my Fender Jazzes too.
-
I'd go for Option 2, with a tiny bit of Options 1 and 3 as required.
-
My mistake - I meant the K2! D'oh!
