1. Yeah man, in the words of the Madchester crowd "large".
2. Get the Corvette for £250. Unless it's a Rockbass Corvette.
3. Hah, you've quickly changed your tune. Peer pressure at work?
4.
Free time permitting mate, then yeah, i'll come along to one of your gigs...i'm in Grantham, Lincs, not sure where you are. But i'm all up for getting along to see some fellow basschatter's pimping it up on stage
Hah, well, we're in London. I still think I'll pop along to the Jazz Cafe to see you. I thought I knew the name Groove Cartel. You guys were one of our first myspace friends on a previous band's profile.
5.
Hi all, Just a quick one to announce that i'm gigging with Groove Cartel at the Jazz Cafe in Camden next Wednesday (27th june)...not had many details come through yet, but rock on!!! Check out the myspace link in my sig to hear some of our stuff. Will any of you be able to make it? Thanks Jamie
Well done, mate. I'll check out your myspace page when I got home (the music player's blocked at work!). I should be free and should make it down. I'd expect you at my next gig though. ;-) Deal?
6. Looks like a pretty cool bass to me. Wouldn't suit Crosby, Stills & Nash but it does have a certain charm.
7. Well, mine stinks. Does that answer your question?
8. £125 for a valve compressor? Bagsy me after Dood?
9. MoogerFooger - that stuff is SICK.
10. Weren't Double Trouble also in Archangel with Doyle Bramhall III?
11.
Would love to help... But being in a seperate 'scene' from most of you on here, the promoters and bookers are different and for the most part venues are hired by them.. we never really get asked to play 'normal' venues by run of the mill promoters and bookers as they seem to have a problem with all the Punks, Skinheads and assorted Hooligans that turn up to watch us.. Funnily enough theres no real trouble and a crowd that usually drinks the bar dry and has a great time which is more than I can say for a 'general' crowd.. Still, Viva La difference!!
Still, why not review the promoters and bookers you've worked with so that any forum members on your scene will be able to benefit from your experience.
12. Damn. My next questions are: 1. Who is this manager? 2. Will he manage my band?
13. There was a discount for combined shipping. If anyone wants to come in on an order, let me know.
14. Yeah. I think we need a mod to help us stickify this. We can use the power of the internet for more than just looking at pictures of naked ladies.
15. I thought it might be useful to have a thread where people review their dealings with promoters and venues. I will be back after the weekend to post some reviews. Until then, over to you.
16. I use myspace for my bands and I have a personal page. Same for our guitarist. Our drummer and keyboard player both use their facebook pages for their personal stuff. Our singer doesn't have a myspace or facebook page. You're not going to get any new fans from myspace. What it is good for is basically acting as a one page press kit. That's handy when it comes to booking gigs and even finding members.
17. Shipping was pretty low. I had a quote for two cabs - can't remember what it came to. I remember working out that I could get a Dr Bass 2x10 and 1x15 + 22.5% Customs/VAT + shipping from the US and it would work out at around the same price as the Hartke 2.5XL and 115XL I'd just bought. When I say cheap, they are CHEAP. $280 = less than £150. That's still under £250-300 with shipping and tax added. So £5-600 for 2 lightweight cabs. Less than the cost of one cab with the Epifani or Eden badge on it. You see why I'm tempted?
18. Hmm... I find it easier to slap on a bass with a medium-high action. I find it almost impossible on a bass with a low action (it just sounds sloppy). But then it's exactly as MB said, whatever works for you. The things to think about are really: 1. How bright do you want your strings 2. How thick/heavy do you want your strings I prefer the thicker/heavier and less bright strings for slap 'cos that's the sound and feel I'm after. What kind of sound/feel are you after?
19. That sounds interesting. The only reason I say I'm not after one is that I don't use a fuzz pedal. But I do love these forums - you learn something new everyday. Thanks for explaining this to me.
20. I did contact the guy in charge a while ago and he was quite helpful. It does seem like there's a team of basically 1 or 2 people building them. That means quality control ought to be fantastic but that it might be a long wait. I don't mind waiting a long-ish amount of time so long as I get something that does everything I wanted it for. What was it on TB that put you off? Were people grumbling basically about the long wait or were there other problems?
21. What do you guys think of Time Out? I don't have any strong feelings about it either way... except for when my band's listed in it. Then I think it's the greatest magazine in the world. So far 3 of our 5 gigs in this band have been listed in Time Out. Doesn't mean much except that when I tell friends, family or people at work that I've got a band and that we've got a show coming up, they take it a bit more seriously when I can point to it in Time Out. Share, people, share.
22. Jean-Luc Pickguard! Classic!
23. Chords. Yum. With an ERB you can cover the roles of bass, keys and guitar in one instrument. Amazing. You should consider copping a lot of ideas about various chord voicings and things from keys players and guitarists.
24. So, we're agreed? 1. If you can 'feel' it, you won't be counting it. 2. If you can't 'feel' it, you have to count it. 3. If you have to count it, you count with the accent/drop/kick on the 3. 4. The reason you count it so that the accent is on the 3 is that we have passed a resolution on these bass forums declaring so.
25. So tell me what it is.
