1. Ah, gotcha. Thanks for that. A few of my pedals have a -6dB pad for active basses. The pedal sounds useful but it's not for me. Good luck.
2. Can someone explain to me what the point of this unit is?
3. I have to say actually that the one time I ventured to their East London branch, it was not very good. The West London branch on the other hand is always fantastic.
4. On my Fenders I use Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky strings (the green packet). I don't like too much zing but if the G is dull, it just won't pop as it should. But I really hate a harsh, trebly sound.
5. Hi guys I'm intrigued by Dr Bass cabs. They're light and cheap, and they have decent reviews on those American forums. I was just wondering if anyone here has any actual experience of them. Thanks
6. What kind of slap sound are you after? I use 45s but some people use really light sets. I do like the Warwick strings.
7. Those 2 expensive ones you found look fantastic. 400 Euros is a lot of money though!
8. I've got a Comfort Strapp and a little blue suede Levy's thing. They're both fine. I'm always up for a better strap or stand though.
9. Quick reminder that we are on tomorrow. 1 drink on me for every forumite who comes down.
10. Digital Village are great. The West London branch in particular.
11. I'll come along to your gig if you come along to my gig at The Water Rats the next day. Fair?
12. I think he gets more of a kick out comparing different combinations of gear than just collecting it all. He sells on a lot of stuff that doesn't make the grade. It could be that he's just on the most epic tonequest the world has ever seen.
13.
Sometimes the less time you have the more energy you put into it and the more you enjoy it when it happens.
Spot on. I'd say take the promotion but do have a proper chat with the keyboard player to make sure you don't get chucked because of it. If you're the best bass player he's played with, then he can afford to be a bit more flexible. My band consists of a lawyer, a civil servant, a teacher, a graphic designer and a schoolboy. It's difficult to organise things around the band's other commitments but it hasn't stopped us progressing fairly quickly on the London launchpad circuit.
14. My drummer's playing there in some youth orchestra and my former guitarist will be playing there too. Bugger.
15. Just think... 48V phantom-powered on-board bass preamps.
16.
If it's not loud enough there is no replacement for displacement.
That sounds like a killer advertising slogan. I'll buy one, whatever it is.
17. Give all your equipment to me and stop complaining. No, ok, take the second cab along with you.
18. I've heard a few players who've come out of here. Overall impressions of their playing: solid with some nice touches, consistent but a bit orthodox for my tastes.
19. I use a studio rack compressor in my live rig.

Bi-amping

Ok here's a silly question. What's the point in having speakers of different sizes if you're not trying to get different sounds out of them? Bi-amping is just a more sophisticated approach to it. Even if your bass rig does just act as a stage monitor, it will hopefully be better designed for the job than monitor wedges, and should result in you and your band hearing you clearly and giving you all the sound you need to inspire the best in you.
21.
Mines probabley up for grabs if anyone is interested Black finish, Pickups swapped for Barts. Nice one dude on the trade! Si
How much? Was this up for sale on here a few weeks ago?
22. I remember stumbling onto his blog a year or so ago on talkbass. I don't think people should insult him or his playing just out of envy. His reviews are excellent AND he invites people from the talkbass forums to come round to his place to try out gear.
23. As listed in Time Out: Click Here For Details. If you like your funk hard, your rock ballsy and your soul bleeding, then come see us at The Water Rats on Saturday 16th June. £6 entry. Same deal as always: any and all BCers who come to the gig and introduce themselves to me will get a free drink from me.

Bi-amping

Exactly. And with a dedicated active crossover you may get dual benefits of saving money and getting more control over your sound.
25.
£9.50 an hour, thats very good. I'm an old guy albeit a graduate and working part time in school I earn less than £5 an hour!
I'm working at a law firm after 6 years of undergraduate, post-graduate and professional education and I only get £0.50 an hour more than that. Take the job and buy some really cool gear on 1st September. You might never need to upgrade. Like someone else said above, get up an hour earlier in the morning and practice then. You should remember that a lot of the jazz, blues, soul and rock legends had sh!tty day jobs - even after some people started to know who they were.
