Transparent amp wanted - no I don't mean see through.
The Funk replied to kjb's topic in Amps and Cabs
I always ask for the closest thing they have in the shop to my set-up minus the thing I'm trying out. It's not always feasible but it does help. -
Have you looked into Aguilar amps? I've not played any Aguilar gear myself but I've heard that it's transparent but not to the point of sounding clinical. Just a suggestion.
I've got an Aguilar valve preamp (DB680). It's clean and thick. It's 2U and therefore the same size as some heads already, without another 2U for a power amp. Sounds great to me though. Clean but not sterile. -
Interesting in more ways than one. It could have been a great article. It's actually trying to make some worthwhile points, but unfortunately all these good intentions are ruined by the fact of it having been written by a TOTAL DWEEB who has: a ) less idea of how valves work than my dog, b ) an unfortunate tendency to exaggerate for effect, and c ) an appallingly arrogant attitude. ... Summary: Considering the well-deserved reputation of Drawmer as a manufacturer of top-notch studio signal processing gear, it is to be hoped that, whoever Richard Wentk is, he isn't employed by them in any technical capacity. Ooh, I can be a bit tart when I want to, can't I ?
Classic. His article did come across as a bit 'Evening Standard'. I'm pretty sure he has absolutely nothing to do with Drawmer but that that was the only article they could find on the subject.

That's the trouble with some musical terms. If you understand it to mean something different to the person you're trying to communicate with, then you're just better off explaining it the long way.

Well, maybe I should give it to a TV repairman - won't cost him anything to fix and then he can always give it to someone as a present... possibly a museum.

GK 400RB + Hartke 4.5XL is a classic combination.

Interesting basic article about valves vs. transistors. http://www.drawmer.com/help2.html

Nah, I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the actual tube inside. If it is a problem with the cables, then you can have a fully functioning TV for nothing.
I took it to the Bass Centre for them to have a look at and it was there about 3-4 months. They said it was fine and i got it back minus a knob.
The knobs there seem to congregate around the till. So uncalled for but I couldn't resist.

Hi guys. If anyone would like a 24" Widescreen TV that has problems with the colour (everything comes up a bit red), then let me know. It's free and I'll even help you carry it out to your car. To put it back into tip-top condition would cost the price of getting a TV repairman to tinker with it. Given how cheap LCD TVs are these days, you might not want to bother with an old-fashioned CRT. But anyway, my one's on offer.

I love the rosewood boards with blocks and binding. I've got a maple '77 with blocks/binding - I'm considering having the neck cloned but rosewood-ed.
I watch this almost once a day to chill me out before bedtime!
I woke up at 3 in the morning with the laptop on my stomach. Very soothing for a chronic insomniac. People forget that Marvin started life as one of The Funk Brothers. It's him playing drums on Please Mr Postman. -
Yeah, this seems like a good idea. I agree with having an ebay subforum. But women do not want men to buy them anything secondhand - everyone should know that by now.

Excellent. I think I understand. Now I need to convince my guitarist to get a vertical 2x12 cab. If I can find a decent one for not much money it might not be that difficult.
Im certainly not a good enough walker to improvise a walking bassline yet - i would need to sit down with the chord charts and figure out something at my own pace.
Damn straight - same here. But I have been lent a book of bass patterns over different chords. I need to dig it out and find the proper title. You might find it useful.

Supergroup ~ your dream line-ups please.
Pete Townsend, Roger Daltry, Keith Moon, John Entwistle.
Nah, that could never work, surely? I actually remember suggesting to my cousin that the remaining members of The Who get together with the remaining Beatles to form Beatles Who? Daft idea but it could be an interesting experiment. Actually, Macca and Clappers sounded pretty damn good together at the George Harrison Remembrance Concert. They should do some more stuff together - Clappers has toured/guested with each of the other 3 individually as well as The Beatles collectively. -

Stevie Wonder, Jeff Beck, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham. Jeff guested on a few Stevie songs in the early 70s and Superstition came out of a jam of theirs. Jeff and Stanley played together in the late 70s. Stanley and Billy have played together a fair bit. I think it would work pretty well. -

Excellent thread. Well done. -
I work for a company... actually, not even that's true - I work for a limited liability partnership. Where can we go to see you play, just out of interest?
Though you could crossfire a side by side pair - that would probably be quite nice considering how bad off-axis most guitar amps are. Alex
Excellent. And what does that mean?

Two examples on ebay of the type of cabs I meant, although these are the 4 speaker ones. Yeah, that makes sense. I'm having dangerous thoughts... what if we held the festival at the Vibe Bar and 93 Feet East - they're on opposite sides of the same road in a trendy part of London. As far as I know, they've never had a music festival there.

What I heard was that the SUBS were selling alright but that they were making a loss on them. A theory I heard was that they were digging into sales of Stingrays. So all I've got is theories and rumours.
