1.
It doesn't get any better than SVT=8X10", but you do need a bloody big van and rodies. King Tuts' Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, if ever you have played there you will know that a full SVT rig is the last thing you want to be owning.
I actually got my 8x10 in the back of a Corolla the other day, and I'm a roadie myself so I don't notice! Getting it into the 13th Note was hard enough.
2.
I'm missing mine already. Bassjam is after one of these, great price and a killer rig you have there my son. What cabs do you punish with that beast?
Just a lone SVT810E. It's enough! I was contemplating getting a 610HLF as a change from the 8x10, but after having no joy I did a gig on an SVT2 into an 8x10 and decided to just go full-bore rockstar Ampeg setup - hence the Ampeg head desire.
3. Better pics tomorrow, but I am selling my pre and power setup to fund the purchase of either an SVT4 or SVT6. This QSC is about 8 months old and was from right before the redesign of the amps. It replaced my RMX1450 which was too heavy. It's a world-class power amp that bridges into 1200W @ 4 Ohms, 700W into 8 Ohms, and in stereo does 325W a side @ 4 Ohms and 200W a side @ 8 Ohms. It's clean, punchy, powerful and very light at only 21lbs. Been rackmounted since purchase(I mounted it into the rack on the shop floor). Also has some nice features like low-pass filter at 30Hz and 50Hz, built-in limiter and Parallel inputs where you feed both channels from one input. XLR and Jack ins, Speakon and Binding post outputs. These sold for £680ish new but I'm asking £250 to shift it quick and because I did get a stellar deal at the time of purchase. I'll ship free in the UK as this is light. I've got the box and manual. Cheers, Dan [email protected]
4. Better pics tomorrow, but I am selling my pre and power setup to fund the purchase of either an SVT4 or SVT6. This Preamp is the very last of the line from the US before Ampeg discontinued it. It's the front end from the SVT-2 and it's really, really nice sounding especially with the complement of JJ 12AX7's that are on board. The driver tube is actualy a Marshall 12AU7, in this preamp it is very punchy and better than the JJ 12AU7 I had in before. Dave Lunt in Stockport serviced this about 6 months ago, cleaned the board etc and basically it's sounded fantastic ever since, I'm probably mad to sell it but I need rackspace. This has been racked since day 1 and is in immaculate condition. Features and all that crap: 3 band EQ with mid Frequency select Ultra Lo, Ultra High & Bright Switches 9 band defeatable graphic Tuner mute & Tuner Out Stereo Outs Balanced DI w/ Level control & Pre/Post Switch It's also switchable supply from 240V to 120V. These go for between £240 and £300(on this site alone, egnerally £300 on Ebay) but I'm asking £250 and I'll ship free in the UK to sweten the deal. Cheers, Dan [email protected] EDIT: If you want the original Sovtek tubes that came in the pre I'll bundle them for free, they're no use to me.
5. Don't suppose you bought this off a bloke called Simon Watson did you, formerly of Nailed? Can't be that many of these floating around West Yorkshire!
6.
is this still available? have a spare - brand new condition b410hlf, bought in August and never used - cab that we could maybe discuss a trade and cash for the 810??
Sorry chief, I've tried a B series 4x10 cab before on gigs where I didn't use my cab and I didn't get on with it at all, I like headroom hence - 1200W QSC amp - and the B series crapped out on me in the power stakes. Really appreciate the offer though!
7. I really want one of these but I'm poor at the minute and can't really sell my gear to raise cash quickly enough... Don't suppose you'd wanna trade for an AMpeg SVP-Pro + QSC PLX 1202 and maybe some cash?
8. When I engineered for The Exploited the bassist had an SVT 2 that the fan was dodgy on, and he strapped a floor standing fan to the sie of it and blew air into it, and it still sounded fantastic so I'd say they're quite hardy amps. I don't think you'd have any trouble with the SVT4 unless you run it very high all the time, or play in very high temperatures as a norm. There's nothng you can do to stop an amp gettig warm, it mean's it's working, so unless you notice any problems then I'd guess it's OK. Drilling a hole or two(small ones) probably won't hurt he structural integrity of a case, not a Gator one IME and probably not an SKB as to me they look very very sturdy.
9.
I've been watching 8x10 for ages on ebay - they come up frequently, ranging between £400 and £500. A1 condition £500 cant make my mind up if I want one, I already have two b410hlf but the issue is my amp it wont deliver 2 ohms..
The 8x10 is a 4 ohm cab so it should be fine? And I emant 6x10's are rareon Ebay? I can't get rid of my cab and then wait around for a 6x10 to turn up, I've got rehearsal 3 times a week and gigs
10.
Man if you're looking to trade your fridge for a better sounding cab in this category there's only one - berg NV610. Just don't rush into anything, you might be sorry after a while. Well, bump for an awsome cab anyway!
I've looked at the Berg and it's not for me, a.) It's not ported and b.) It's not Ampeg, SWR or Mesa haha!
so about £500 then? thomman have them for £749 new, ebay last 8x10 sold for £480 and the 610 for £560.. hope thats a correct guess? andy
If you say so, but this all relies on there being one on there. They're fairly rare I guess on Ebay?
11. |How much does a 610HLF, 2 410's or a 4x10 and a 2x10 go for on Ebay? Because the answer is that much!
12. I'm thinking about trading off my Ampeg 8x10, I've been considering moving to a ported cab for a change in tone but I'm skint so am more than willing to swap for other Ampeg gear... Stuff I'd consider would be: 6x10 HLF 2 4x10 HLF's 1 4x10 HLF & 1 2x10 HE Or two 410HE cabs and I'll biamp one for lows. 15's don't interest me, had them before and I like the punch of 10"s. If we make a trade I'll drive to you(I live in Manchester) with the cab and we can swap, I'll bring my head of course and try your cabs out. My 810 comes with a cab cover that has my band logo on it that can be removed with some turpentine so you can have that as I won't need it. I'll also consider trading for SWR or Mesa cabs in the same configurations. Hopefully we can work something out! Dan [email protected]
13. 15 Watt practice amp with 6.5" driver. Passive & active inputs, volume, bass, mid and treble controls, line out for plugging into other stuff and a headphone jack for quiet practicing. This is really, really loud and very punchy sounding and clear. In mint condition except two of the blue knob covers have come off the front of the amp, which happened while I was moving the amp to another room while decorating. I'm sure you could find or steal some of these in Johnny Roadhouse. I'm selling because I mainly use my PC when practicing or practice unplugged so this is just an expensive stand for my metronome. I paid £80 so will sell for £40. I'll even chuck in a Planet Waves patch cable and meet you with the amp(within reason obviously)! Or shipping is a tenner to anywhere in the UK. Cheers, Dan [email protected]
14.
If you get the seller to declare the value as below the £30ish UK import limit and it's worth hundreds then you run the risk of only being able to claim back £30 if anything gets lost. To claim back the duty you have to supply C&E with evidence that the item cost less than their £30ish import limit, that means copies of your eBay/purchase receipt and copies of PayPal receipts and either way you can not claim back the handling charge (minimum of about £8).
If you've been charged VAT and import then the C&E has caught the fact that your item is worth more than £30, even if they've declared it as £30...otherwise they wouldn't have charged you in the first place.
15. Taking a case with you is the best idea and bringing the instrument back with you in it. You should check the case into the hold on the way out(via oversize baggage) and leave baggage tag on it, then on your way out of the USA the tag should still be on there and they can;t prove you haven;t just taken your instrument out of the country. It's unreasonable for them to ask you to produce a receipt for a bass that you've owned for a while, if that's your story.
16.
well i did just spend £50 on a router...
No routing necessary
17. Well it's from my hometown of Mancunia so it's probably stolen haha!
18. The Tonepump preamp is essentially a Spector version of the Aguilar OBP-1 and is 18V. There is one 9V battery in there but Spector use a voltage doubler to bring the headroom up to 18V. This shortens your battery life but seeing as a 9V lasts about 60 hours of playing time normally(if you don't leave your bass plugged in all the time) then it doesn't have much of an effect on lifespan, but the tone is well worth the trade off. I've got a Tonepump in my fretless and I leave the bass flat, but the treble seems voiced at exactly that 'zing' frequency of my strings. I generally just turn it up the older my strings get. When it's up to about 3/4 full I know it's time to change strings! This preamp gets a bad rep, especially on Talkbass, but I think it's great. My EMG BTS in my REX is more hi-fi sounding but my fretless seems a little more alive with the Tonepump. As for genres, you only have to look at how many different artists use Spectors to see what they can do. Doug Wimbish to Alex Webster, Sting to Nikki Sixx, it's pretty well covered.
19.
Except with no block inlays I'm a bit sick of looking at bloody dot inlays all day, actually.
They come with dot inlays stock, I just added Fretware to mine haha!
20. Most UK plugs hover between 220V and 230V and we pay for 230V. And if you saw some of the places I've played, then inconsistent wall current IS a problem let me assure you! You never know what;s running off those sockets, sometimes the PA, monitors and lights are all off the same electrical ciruit and spikes are massively common. Also when you've got drunk folks walking around with beer it's nice to have something keeping your rig from giving a blue flash and going quiet! Plus it provides light and direct EEC to EEC outlets.
21. Well I'm not furious because mine is solid ply! It's a late 2005 model.
22. My SVT810E is solid ply. I know because I had to glue the Tolex back onto it after scraping it off on a door frame!
23. Not realy, skid rails, casters and a decent handle are fine. Just don't bother flightcasing them. Also gak can send an 8x10" for £10 anywhere in the UK so we the people must eb able to do the same, or similar? Maybe for £30?
