1. As some of you may know I've just invested in an MXR M80 and it's replaced this. This is the second one I've had after losing my first one, I still swear by it as a great pedal but I've gotta shift it for some bills! Three modes, Clean EQ, overdrive and distortion. It's also got attack switches which is like a harmonic booster, brings out the string attack. No box for some reason but I've got the manual. £30 posted! [email protected]
 2. Thought I'd ask for some advice here as am currently embroiled in a feud with our rehearsal room landlord over electricity bills! To cut a long story short the landlord brought us up a £650 bill for 2 years usage the week before Xmas (he reads the meters as each band room has a sub meter from the supply). Our usage was at 3711 units for 2 years, works out at 35 units a week. All we have plugged in is my Bass 400+, 2 Engl Fireballs, a Soundcraft Mixer, 750W Cloud power amp and the drummers trigger brain. We rehearse in 2 hour stretches 2-3 days a week, 6 hours total max. We have a dehumidifier running 24/7 as the building has developed damp over the years. Lightbulbs are 11W energy efficient jobbies, six of them. From what I can gather on the net, a 2 bedroom house with occupants will use about 35 units a week, and apparently our 300 sq ft room is drawing the same?
 3.
Last year I think. Eden got rid of all their UK distribution early last year, so I reckon it was around then. They've now gradually set up new dealers.
I think it was before then, I remember the uproar on Talkbass! It's owned by US Music Corporation who own Wahsburn, Randall, Parker Guitars etc. Didn't know that Genz Benz had moved on from Kaman to Fender. Guess Fender have got the hi-fi end of bass amplification well covered with Genz Benz and SWR! Ampeg is owned by LOUD Technologies, who bought their parent company St. Louis Music in 2005. Hartke is owned by Samson. Independents are thinning out, ones that spring to mind are MarkBass, Mesa/Boogie(although due to their size/popularity they're a grey area...no overseas manufacture anyway) and Bergantino. Basson are as well I think? Aguilar are independent too.
 4. The main thing in this is just the strength of your attack, batter the string and the clack starts to appear. Having big frets helps as well, along with low action.
 5.
I always figured putting a DI and overdrive in the same box didn't make much sense. I mean, I'd want the O/D first, and the DI last - where do I put all the other pedals?
I see your point and I think it's a reason why people clamour for an fx loop on the M80, then the box would be unstoppable. Although I've always preferred my dirt at the end of the chain so never came up as a negative, and now that I've ditched all my pedals it's a one stop shop. After a couple rehearsals I'm still tinkering with my M80 every now and then, I've settled on blend at 12 o'clock, trigger on full and gain varies between 10 o'clock and 1 o'clock, still haven't found my sweet spot yet. Boosted mids and treble on the unit. Also due to the M80 scoop I've got my Bass 400+ mid control on 10 (flat), and I've noticed that my amp EQ is more noticeable now than before with the PD7, it seemed to mask any changes. Don't use the 400+ graphic EQ either. The noise gate seems a lot more effective than my old M80 - although I was running it on batteries at the time and not a wall wart. One thing that this pedal has got is GROWL. Works well with a Spector. I find myself going for a cleaner sound when I'm fiddling between songs, then as soon as we start playing I turn the gain back up for that cut in the mix. Gonna be fun in the studio finding a setting that works!
 6.
So it's another case of a buyout diluting the brand. Mark Bass it is then. Or maybe Eden, or SWR, or Genz Benz YAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eden are now owned by Washburn(or rather their parent company) and SWR are owned by Fender, so either isn't really a good choice if you wanna stay corporate-free!I thnk Genz-Benz is owned by the Kaman Corporation. Or were you making an insightful, tongue in cheek joke?
 7. I had no real problem getting a .135 B on my Euro. Bit of jiggery pokery but nothing too difficult, definitely no filing. Another option is a taper-core B, this will definitely fit.
 8. From personal experience, this isn't even worth £200. I sold a mint, as in NEW, 5 string Rockbass Corvette active for a buddy recently. Corvettes are more expensive than Streamers, and mine was active, placing it about 3rd from the top of the product line, with Streamer passives being lowest. The Corvette sold for £200 dead on Ebay after a distinct lack of interest, and it was a new bass, AND it had a Gator hardcase. I wouldn't pay more than £160 WITH some form of case.
 9. Try putting a little relief in the neck and lowering the action further to create "buzz" - this is what I do do add mwah. Failing that it could be the finish on the fingerboard, but I doubt it. Also 800hz boost on an EQ will accentuate mwah.
 10.
JHS say delivery is expected "some time in April, £239 RRP..." I imagine the street price will be much cheaper...
The RRP on an M80 is £213ish and you can get one of those for about £150, so these will be summat like £160 maybe?
 11.
i still love your old m80 mate. currently using it as a di/ splitter in the studio (going to my old WEM valve combo) it's a cracking pedal - a really useful thing to have in the old case for emergencies! every one of my students gets the talk about the swiss army knife of pedals too! - to date three of them have been out and bought them!
I think that was the very first thing I sold on here as well! With Bass Player coverage and all the net hype you'd think more people would own Sansamps, but the M80 is holding it's own in the UK for sure.
 12.
Passives? You must mean the pups - which are passive and as for ash, the body is alder.
Same difference!
 13. Considering a tuner is THE most important device you can own I've tried a few. Had a TU-2 for years, not bad but does affect tone. Accuracy wise is great, all the guitar and bass tech's I see coming through the MEN Arena use them so they can't be bad! Also has a disco mode where you hold stream/cent when you plug in, always nice! Planet Waves - avoid. Feels sturdy I know, but that battery catch/button will break sooner than you think. A buddy had one for one gig and his broke tuning up between songs. He's 5'7" and weighs about 9 stone so he's not a heavy kicker. Now it won't turn on. Pitchblack/most Korgs - brilliant. I use a DTR-2, which is the equivalent of a DTR1000 these days. Still not sure if it sucks tone, I can't pick anything out when AB'ing it. Peterson - brilliant if you have the cash.
 14. Just bought my second one of these, originally when I was rocking my Hartke/Peavey rig I had a fair few effects and this was on there as a tone shaper. It was the last thing to go when I downsized and I was reluctant selling as I loved it but I didn't use it at the time. Well after flirting through a few rig changes, going Ampeg w/ PSA-1 etc I've come arrived at a Mesa, and was looking for a DI for live use that didn't sound like an SVT(no BDDI for me). This sprung to mind, and had the added benefit of having the grindy distortion that in my earlier days I'd overlooked for not being aggressive enough. Well when you've got a Bass 400+ behind you aggression takes on a new meaning and suddenly my Ibanez PD7 isn't the sound I'm after... So a trip tp PMT and some abuse of their interest free credit deal and I walked out with this after only laying down £20, and it's better than I remember. Maybe my ears have changed but the distortion seems eminently more useable and thick, and there is no lack of mids whereas my PD7 is a scoopier sounding pedal, and while being aggressive didn't have the clarity I need. I've yet to test the M80 in a band mix but judging by my initial impressions after a couple of tweaks I'll be in the sweet spot. An added bonus is that I don't have to take my head and cab to gigs any more if I don't want to. Anyone else got a tingly feeling for this pedal? I know dood did but he sold out and went all Line 6 on us
 15.
Hate to do this to you Alan already has a Rebop. Peter
Yes, but a Rebop doesn't sound like a Euro OR a US Bolt-on! Passives with Ash body isn't "the Spector sound".
 16. IMO that's a great price. I only pay a teeny bit more than that for a brand new one on an endorsement deal! Only potential downside might be colour, but that's all opinion. If you lower it to £700 and someone doesn't snap your hand off then don't bother selling it if you don't have to!
 17.
1400? For a 6-string? Sounds a bit low in my ears. Some models in the Euro series are quite cheap but the 6-string is a bit more expensive as shown. AND this one has another (better?) preamp. Euro4LX Doug 4 34"  Alder with Top EMG P EMG J Spector TonePump! $3,199.00 Euro4LX Ian 4 34"  Alder with Top EMG P EMG J Spector TonePump! $2,699.00 Euro4LX Classic 4 34"  Alder with Top EMG P EMG J Spector TonePump! $2,699.00 Euro4LX TW 4 34"  Alder with Top EMG 35TW EMG 35TW Spector TonePump! $2,799.00 Euro5LX 5 35"  Alder with Top EMG 40TW EMG 40TW Spector TonePump! $2,899.00 Euro6LX 6 35"  Alder with Top EMG 45TW EMG 45TW Spector TonePump! $3,599.00
That's the new price list, twin EMG TW's and after a price hike. This bass is first-generation and was only about $500 more expensive than a 5 string at the time of release. Euro 5's used to hover around £1100-£1200 and these were around £1400 at the time. Also re: the new preamp, it could be a positive or negative thing depending on your tastes.
 18.
You're all way too kind - it's great to have such good friends - thanks a bunch for all your offers to help me out. I gigged with it last night at a small pub in Oldham and it was fabulous and I've just this minute got back from doing a posh wedding at Samlesbury Hall where I used it again and it was truly astonishing. This preamp is fantastic - it's made a superb bass even better. I'm going to keep it and get my shoulder fettled.
Hate to do this to you, but the perfect solution to your situation is to sell this and buy a US bolt-on Spector. They're lighter(my bolt-on is the lightest of my 3 Spector's) but due to the deep-inset neck the tone isn't that far off a neck-thru, and is eminently powerful. Plus they're only about £200ish more than a Euro! I had an interesting time fitting a .135 B to my new 'un but didn't file it in the end, it think they altered the bridge design slightly.
 19.
Wow, that bass looks totally awesome!!!! I can't imagine what it's worth, or what you are hoping to get for it, but I'm darned sure it's more than I have spare right now. Every time I see a six string I feel tempted to have a go, but my brain screams Nooooooooo, bad idea! having said that I'm positively palpitating at the look of that bass. Out of interest, if you are not keen to print a price in the thread, could you PM me with how much you consider selling for - just to put me out of my misery when i know that I couldn't get that much together ...........
Depends on how much he paid. They went for £599 in a Reverb clearance, which is daylight robbery, but in this condition it's still worth paying between £850 and £1000 for a used instrument. If you wanted one pre clearance and before the recession, brand new they'd be about £1400ish and this looks to be in startling condition so...go get a loan!
 20. Having done 4 years of transcription and reading, IME: Rests break beams. And dotted rests are fine if there isn't too much else going on in the bar. I wouldn't dot anything smaller than a 1/4 note anyway.
 21.
Well - the postscript is that we didn't actually trip it once but certainly triggered the entire christmas tree of lights several times. It had indeed been carefully set up to rob all the fundamentals from any low frequency source. Bass, obviously, but also lower end of vocals, kick drum, low tom etc. I ended up having use just the Genz 1x10 combo stacked as high as I could get it. I also had to pull some bass out of the signal but luckily the Genz has a semi-parametric mid & I found the lowest frequency I could get away with boosting in order to get any lind of volume just to hear what I was playing. The trip meter quite liked my auto-wah though - I knew it pulled a bit of low end from the signal but it must have been right on the sweet spot of the limiter as I could snap strings really loudly with the wah on! There was a bass player in the audience who came up to me at the interval and said he could barely here anything I was playing. He knew there was some bass in the mix but not enough to distinguish much. Thing that really pissed me off about it all is that the bloody venue is absolutely in the middle of nowhere. The only person within any kind of earshot just happens to be the owner so he obviously set it so he doesn't get disturbed much - meanwhile he's hiring the place out as a wedding venue with live bands for thousands of pounds a night!
I've always wondered if some sort of sprayable foam could be squirted into the limiter..window sealant or somesuch that isn't exactly noticeable. Even if it only gives you 3-6dB extra that would be enough to get by.
 22.
I sent a message this morning to say I'd buy it. Not heard back. Am I first in the queue?????
Sold pending payment, dunetune got in first!
 23.
Tone Pump bump!
Bump again, someone must want a cheap preamp!! I'll even accept £20 shipped.
 24.
I wouldn't trust thomann prices! As you said, the pound is really weak and all of thomann's prices are hugely inflated
Even when the pound was at it's strongest Thomann were asking £1599 for a Euro, and you could get them over here for £999. Just FYI these usually go for between £700 and £900 depending on condition so it's not a bad price.
