1.
Hope you got a good deal there, coz Reverb have got the exact same bass for £599 (ex-demo/display though).
I paid for this just as Reverb got set up, and after ringing round their clearance section they had no Euro's left so ordered a brand new one from PJ. Let's say I paid a couple of hundred quid more for a brand new model...
Edited to say: I really should have read your post more thoroughly I see it's the pups you want to upgrade to 18 and remove the pre. Everyone to their own. What sort of music do you play? Anything subtle? Peter
Not subtle at all, that's why I like simplicity! The way I see it is I've got a tube preamp in my Bass 400+ and in the EMG's themselves, I don't need another one between the pickups and the amp. I never used either the Tonepump or the BTS in either of my basses for tone shaping either.
That's a beauty! Congrats! As Greeneking noted.... it should be running at 18v anyway so no need for a mod... Also, just curious.....if you don't like/want the pre-amp then why didn't you get Spector to fit the one you want?
See above, kinda, but the only kind of preamp I ever found useful was a 3 band with sweepable mids, and that was only when using amps that weren't mine. The 3 band helps you dial in a usable sound regardless of the quality of head you're using, but I haven't used someone else's amp head in years and don't plan to start now I've got a Mesa! I would have ordered the bass with just a volume and a blend control, but this would have been considered a "custom" job at the factory and would have added two months to the wait. I think the Czech factory has a separate team for anything custom, this team is small and they're backordered.
gorgeous bass. Nailed are awesome too. Why didnt you play in hereford after? i thought you were year or two back? with a band called figure of hate?
Well we had petrol to cover and they wern't sure they'd cover it with it being the first gig they'd booked at that venue, so they said they'd be in touch if it was a success and that was that. If you know any of them tell the to get in touch we plan to play all over after we record our 3rd album.
I think I've met you, Dan - in the upstairs room at Jabez Clegg at a Profane gig w/ Darryll. AMIRITE?
I believe URRITE!
 2. Here's the most boring list ever...since 2000 when I start playing: 1) Tanglewood Rebel 4K - first bass, Xmas present from the folks. Ended up putting Dimarzio P + J pickups in it, stripping the neck and hand rubbing tung oil into it and learning how to do setups on the thing. Didn't play well but with the Dimarzio's actually sounded fantastic. Sold it for £75 after not playing it for over a year, as I'd bought... 2) Spector REX 2000/5 - still got this, it was my first "proper" bass and a really good investment. Dropped EMG's into it, did 18V mod and added Fretware (now defunct). Recently retired to practicing and teaching. 3) Spector NS-JH5CM Fretless - One of my main live basses and one of the last all-maple US Bolt On Spectors. World-class quality and tone and playability to kill for. Still got, as was my first endorsement bass from Spector. 4) Spector Euro 5LX - just arrived, will be my main fretted bass. Got on artist deal ala the US bass, got black hardware with it. Initial impressions are very good as it has nickel Spector strings on and I NEED steels. My amp/effect history is a little more exciting....
 3. Will take some better pictures but arrived yesterday, it's fantastic: The first Spector I played was an old NS5CRFM in Bass Centre Manchester back in 2002-ish. Ever since then I've started a love affair with the company and this is my third. Got it direct from US via my artist endorsement, as Spector don't have a UK distributor at the minute. Got stung on Import & VAT for £225 but due to endorsement worked out £750 cheaper than any other seller! The action is unbelievably low, don't like the strings though. Needs a new battery, 18V mod, some D'Addario Pro Steels and the preamp removing (never use it) then it'll be perfect. Next I'm after a NS-5XL - think I'll wait for the recession to ease before going for that one!
 4. Snap. Me and Jim have almost the same rig, except my tuner is better and my cab is older (pre- Player Control) Interesting to see the three different "eras" of Mesa - Diesel, to Silver Powerhouse, to black-fronted Powerhouse which is the standard these days. I prefer the black grilles but don't want to imagine the cost of getting a replacement one from Mesa...unless someone wants to swap a black 6x10" grille for my silver one? In conclusion - Best. Rig. Ever.
 5. Now on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=200306611236
 6.
NO PHOTOS CAN JUSTFY THE LOOK OF THE BASS.
Well they'd justify that price tag, I'd highly suggest you take some photos, good ones. I wouldn't part with £2800 for something sight unseen.
 7.
The early ones were made in Korea. I have a 5-string natural coloured one with what looks like an ash body. Absoloutely great sound out of it and I want one in black.
Are you sure? My 2002 issue of Bass Player with the review of this bass in says Made in China in the tech specs. Anyway, what's the difference in quality, if there even is one between Asian manufacturers these days. EDIT: Also you wouldn't get an ash-bodied Rockbass in black - the solid gloss finishes use alder bodies so it wouldn't sound quite the same.
 8. I thought they only ever made them in China and Taiwan?
 9. Selling this for Lee formerly of Ebony Lake. He bought it for £450 in 2008 but hasn't used it at all, it was a recording bass that he didn't actually record with and now he's asked me to sell it. It's the 5 string Corvette Basic with active electronics, this being treble boost/cut and bass boost/cut, volume and blend. Passive MEC Jazz pickups. The guitar is basically new, with no belt rash, no scratches, plastic still on cavity cover and the Warwick Black Label strings still have their zing. It really is immaculate. Also included is a Gator hardcase, and I reckon a fair price for the bass + case is £300. Shipping will be about £20 but I'd rather come and meet you with it for petrol money, unless you can come to Greater Manchester and pick it up for nowt. Cheers, Dan [email protected]
 10. I've never thought to post on here, but I offer bass lessons, instrument setups and session work around Manchester. Here's my poster:
 11. IME, valve amps don't drastically colour the sound unless you want them to by cranking up the gain - they just add a little warmth, not perhaps even a quantitative effect but almost like an aural exciter. I would definitely disagree a valve amp will sound the same whatever bass is plugged in, I mean an Ampeg doesn't even sound like an "Ampeg" until you push the Lo button in.

 13. I've never had any troubles, always quick service and neve had to contact them. But I've always bought DR sets off them so they'd have to have some seriously bad facilities to ruin those strings. They also consistently cheaper than Stringdirect for most everything and have better choice. However at £35 per 5 string set of Hi-Beams, and that's the cheapest price I've found from a UK site, I'm thinking of switching to D'Addario Prosteels - at £17.60 they're literally half the price.
 14. It's 1/4" so I was a little surprised, it looks identical to a normal stereo bu there's an extra, shorter plug next to the tip and ring connections...odd!
 15. Just got this from Ebay as a replacement for a worn out jack, turned up and has 4 connectors. I'm only used to seeing 3 connector versions, what's the best way to wire this? Obviously the ground is the same but it's the other 3 that I'm unsure on! Cheers, Dan
 16.
This is just a bass and treble control as the volumes ar still in my bass, use whatever volume/blend you like with it. You stick the preamp in, solder 4 wires and you're away!
Tonepump sold pending payment!
 17.
Is the tonepump vol, blend, bass, treble? Lookin for a drop in curcuit for my jazz
This is just a bass and treble control as the volumes ar still in my bass, use whatever volume/blend you like with it. You stick the preamp in, solder 4 wires and you're away!
 18. Left the pots on the preamps to ease installation for the next buyer, and I really like the look of the basses with just two pots! I like the Nedster idea but I can't go cutting into the basses for scraps...one is gloss and the other is solid flame maple. I like the dowel idea - the holes are 1/4"...
 19. As some of you may know I took the preamps out of my basses and wired them volume/volume straigh to nthe jack. Now I have 2 holes on each bass where the pots used to be. My question is - what can I fill em with? Rubber bung? Nut and bolt with top cut off? Etc... Cheers, Dan
 20. Paid for my BTS control within 10 mins of seeing the ad - good buyer! Cheers, Dan
