1. I missed the MOR, being off with the in-laws... was very gutted Should we brand up any Yorkie drinks as some form of Christmas meet? Try and tempt people out for a few festives? Unsure where to suggest, maybe the Guy Fawkes?
  2. Icastle might, hopefully, be able to help me describe my issue here - but... After a blinding rehearsal, whilst still in the throes of happiness over having nailed some of the best riffs that my hands have ever produced, I packed my car with my gear. Only, in my gaiety, I had failed to secure my Hartke 3500 properly. Upon unloading, it was apparent that I had sheared my volume control off, thanks to the sports handling of my Mini Cooper S. I ordered a replacement part from Hartke, and was delighted to receive what appeared to be a volume pot. Upon fitting, it was apparent that this was not quite the right one (being 100 "doobies" when a 10 "doobie" part was required)**. Ian kindly helped me fit it - however, the volume control doesn't work as advertised. Rather it prodcues louder or quieter static and whilstles; the pre-amp then acting more like the volume, allowing a playable tone to be produced. There are some other issues - the case has some wear; some of the plastic sliders from the EQ are missing (x2) and the compression knob has come loose from the pot. Beyond those, everything else works - and, with some knowledge of these matters, this whole thing could be put back to rights quite quickly I would imagine. However, honest admission time: I haven't got a clue; and nor do I have the inclination. Was considering letting go, but would like opinions on an honest price, £50 too high, too low? ------ ** I don't know the relevant technical term here. Long and short is it wanted one, but Hartke looked at the schematic and sent me the other.
  3. Yeah, I felt a bit like this when I joined Pink Floyd... Sorry, I think I might still be drunk
  4. Traded pending
  5. David, any chance of a shot of the lacquer issue at the pocket?

    electra Bass

No idea on this one; not a sausage. In terms of the "Swiss cheese" look, I remember a few BC Riches going down the same route.

    Band Van!

    I like this!
  8. I quite liked it. I hear your point about being unable to pidgeonhole yourself into any one genre. I like the little fills. There something I usually try and avoid in my own playing, usually for getting a sharp look from the guitarist about showboating or being unnecessarily complex... but they really work here, and give more of a sense of you as a player. Thanks for sharing
  9.
Loving that avatar buddy. Good to see other Mighty Whites fan bassists are out there! Lets hope we do a number on Donny tonight. Sadly, I'm playing so will miss it!
Oh yes! MOT
  10.
Correct, and they're better for it now. But the prices of new Warwicks is just outrageous! I always wonder who the hell buys them new!
I remember thinking this when I first started playing - a young teenager, venturing into the music shops for the first time. I remember joining some friends in Manchester for a look round a few places, and venturing into one which had all these Warwicks on the wall. I couldn't believe the prices back then. Considering how long it had taken me to save the £200-or-so I had in my pocket for a new bass, I couldn't believe people would be paying £1000s of pounds. They were brilliant, but completely unobtainable - and I think still have some of that aura, even though I am now hitting 30 and wouldn't blink at the price.
  11. I like this - kinda reminds me of cockney geezer rock Very nice as always, Low End.
  12. I didn't have much of a clue of the form, last time. The second I picked a bass up, I found a crowd had gathered around me and I'd forgotten what I'd intended to play. I should have less of an issue if a crowd forms around me the second I pick a pint up. Or the second I pick my second pint up
  13.
Which model/age of Warwick have you been offered in trade?
It was a $$ Custom, which Evil has subsequently managed to do a good deal on... just not to me. Not that I think the thread is wasted, as it's brought out some really good points - and a lot of information for people to consider. I had no idea about things like the Kramer Spectors - and still have no idea how they sit in the panoply of Spector basses! And the tip about the neck is intriguing. No local shops stock to try, so that'll be one to look at again.
  14. Chaps, I've gone down the usual route of advertising on Joinmyband, Gumtree, etc - but if anyone can has a mate who can sing or play some guitar (pref. lead) and quites like a little bit of the Black Spiders, Viking Skull, AC/DC, etc, could you aim them my way, please? We're all 25-30-ish, purely for fun (you'll never make a living out of this) and having a laugh with mates, whilst making some loud noises. Should be York-based and have own gear, etc. I can aim them at demos, etc, on request. I'm struggling with the usual routes, to be honest
  15.
IT'd defeat the object somewhat.
That's what I thought when I bought it!
  16. You don't fancy a lovely MIM P, in trade for it, do you Spaz?
  17.
You paid £550 for a MIM Jazz? Was it new? Why are you selling it if you don't mind me asking?
That's the RRP from new, these days, Tom - or it looks to be near enough, from a quick browse in town. It's a smart looking bass, mind.
  18.
The solution to your quandry is simple. 1.Get your Ampeg amp back. (Why would you ever give it up for Orange??) 2. Get a Fender, G&L, Squier or Burns Bison bass 3.Get rid of that wimpy Gibson and worthless PV !!!
You're going to struggle to top this for a first post. I second getting the Ampeg back; buying a Fender is not the answer, trust me; keep the Gibson, much cooler, unless you like looking like the last guy, who looked like the last guy, who looked like the last guy, who looked like the last guy who also played a Fender.
  19.
Looks to me like chicken, chips and cheese. Amirite? About the time thing, seriously, if your life is so busy that you literally have no time at all to learn 3 songs, then you should probably not be in a band at all. Clearly that 2-3 hours a week for rehersals could be put to much better use.
A quick scan of the office revealed that my mate is some form of outcast smoggie. I'm unclear on why he can't go back, but he has confirmed the following:

It's chicken parmigiana done Northern; and thus done best
It's breaded chicken covered in garlic sauce and cheese
It comes with chips
Salad is also available
Today, I have gained a new respect for 'Boro I'm trying to work out how I can now knock one together.
  20.
That looks......disgusting haha.
Get out
  21.
''away lads, i haven't had time for my dinner, shall we go for a pre-gig parmo?'' if you live in and around Middlesbrough and have ever had a parmo you will understand... if you haven't, here's a picture... as you can imagine you feel ''quite'' sluggish after one of these...
What is this?
  22.
Sod not having practiced and such like "I thought you were bringing the biscuits this week?" is the one that fills me with dread.
Fackin' 'ell! You get biscuits?!? Do you need a second bassist?
  23.
No. I'm not done being too serious.
Damnation! I have guitarists to slate, sir - and I only have a small window before I'm meeting a colleague for fine, ethically-produced third-world coffee. However, you are welcome to join us for a rehearsal (our room is very third-world) and witness first hand. I don't think my guitarist plays between rehearsals. Honestly.
  24.
I'm not saying people should just be allowed to flake out whenever they want, but that people should consider the reasons why they did before bitching about it, 'kay?
As I'm lucky enough to have been born in the first world, and thus find myself with the leisure to have considered the reasons why my bandmates make excuses and formulate a reply from the comfort of central-heating, power, light and the connectivity of the internet, I have come to the conclusion: their excuses are sh*te. Can I now be critical-yet-tongue-in-cheek, please?
  25.
i don't understand why this is still here, should have been long gone
Ditto. I do know of one reason, however, which is the £2500 dentist bill I picked up in June
