I have a 5 string neck thru Hohner B2AV, strung E A D G C. It's beautifully made and sounds punchy as hell (especially in passive mode). Speaking of which, it needs no battery to run in passive, so it's a great back up. Definately recommeded

A CIJ Geddy Lee Jazz - perfect for what you want I reckon. -

I've seen that happen before... the funny thing is, the guy I saw it happen to and he had a backup bass which he reached for... only to find the batteries in that were on the way out also.
Makes me all nostalgic for the days when basses had no batteries in 'em... Yeah, I know a lot don't, but most if mine *do*

Couldn't you ask (demand) that it be paid in cash... I know which I'd rather have.
I like an SR505 I played - had a bit of a Warwick growl going on with it to be honest. They are a good value 6 string AND they do sound good. Same goes for the BTB556 really.
I'd agree, the higher end SR basses are excellent, the BTB's are good too, but they have a 35" scale. As to the SR506, I'm not sure if there's a better 6 for the money (new). String spacing is 16.5mm, check that you like it this close, it ain't a Warwick Broadneck

I wonder if there's a workshop in the 'States somewhere, turning out 'Vintage Fenders'... I mean, if you *really* knew your stuff, would it be convincing enough to fool everyone? Like 'Identity Theft' for guitars... If you could find out that a particular serial numbered guitar was no more... then make a new one. They say that anything can be copied. Like I say, just a thought
If you have no inspiration or ideas, just play the root note on the 1, and then a combination of the third, fifth and seventh. Just play pentatonic stuff. It's simple and it sounds cool. Major pentatonic on major chords, minor pentatonic on minor.
Good advice... pretty much what I do a fair bit of the time -
Looks like Ibanez have been listening...
Save yourself a whole heap of money, an unfeasably long 'lead time' and a huge loss if you decide to sell it... Just get onto Thomann, buy the Ibanez, change the pickups (probably) and, for £210 or so, you're away

Just saying 'it's all good' isn't really very interesting to me. It also doesn't lead to very many interesting discussions... There seems to be quite a few people here who want consensus above all. Relic/age-ing service on ebay
David Nimrod replied to bassjamm's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
'Relicing' might be fascinating in a 'how the hell do you actually do it in a convincing manner' sort of way... But the whole principle of it is just so *phoney* - I mean, it's basically a lie; remember stonewashed jeans? Relicing is done to confer 'mojo' (whatever that is) on an instrument. There is no shortcut to this. But more importantly it is done to confer 'mojo' on the player. There is no shortcut to this either. I remember over 20 years ago some photographers would buy a new Nikon F3 and wear the black paint down to the metal, on the corners. They just couldn't bear to be thought of as 'new'. But it's all a deceit, a symptom of impatience, and what's the point of that? -
