1. I do like the PB70, a lot. That's the one for me. I'm not a great fan of Jazz basses but some on the Fender Japan site are great looking.
2. ...and that Mitch Mitchell still moving bits of kit around. The clip has a bass player in it, so I should imagine you're on safe ground in this forum They'd probably be written off as amateurs today and totally ignored.
3.
Yes. Sid and Doris Bonkers of Croydon.
I think my brother lived next door to them when he lived in Croydon.
4.
I might pop along to the palladium on the 16th of Feb, if you fancy a night out Marvin?
Mr Vader, are you asking me out on a date? You naughty man, I am married you know...and so are you Might be up for that. Be in touch closer to the time?
5. In the end I bought Fender Mustang I. I was in a music shop, they had one I bought it. I can see why they are recommended as a home practice amp. It's an impressive little bit of kit and quite loud. As I don't intend to take my guitar playing any further than the living room it's perfect.
6. I might have to catch you guys as you play around my way a bit.
7. Always worth a punt.
8.
I'm not sure I've ever heard any Coldplay - I'll have to go and have a listen now...
Why? Are you having problems sleeping?
9.
Interesting. I heard some SL stuff a few months ago that he posted on Facebook, but it sounded even more random than JG's stuff. It was like a sort of gamelan nightmare, meditation music for serial killers.
I know, odd in'it . I think if I'm going to listen to 'random' then it's got to be very random I suppose. I like the right on the edge experimentation...I think. Anyway my secret's out now, I'm off to sharpen my knives
10. I've listened to a couple of the albums over the past few weeks. I haven't downloaded any because I simply can't get into the compositions. More into Steve Lawson really.
11.
My ebony fretless warmoth neck is probably the nicest neck I have ever played. So no, a squier will not match up. It might be good enough with some fettling though. better is also a very subjective word.
Fettling. What a fantastic word to use. I've just been on the Warmouth site and made my custom neck $415 and custom body $370.
12. Cheers Lozz. Might go for the HotCover in that case. Thanks again.
13. How well padded are the Roqsolid covers? I'm considering getting one. Either that or HotCovers seem quite good.
14. I personally can't see a gap at the top of the neck pocket ( I may need new glasses ). However, I'd agree with discreet that the 'photo' has been so processed and manipulated it's not even a picture of a real bass anymore. If you 'click' through all the possible models they've all got that funny silk on the A string Jack pointed out. This probably gives a clue to how much the image has been nobbled.
15.
+1 Lovely strings. My favourite flats. They remind me a little of D'Addario chromes, but I prefer the Fenders. I have them currently on my Squier Precision CV 50s and on a Jazz.
It's the first time I've ever put flats on one of my basses. They sound just spot on my precision. And for the price, I'm really impressed with the Fenders.
16.
Hi all finally. Decided on a rumble 350. Tried it out in Dawson Liverpool liked the scoop. Effect. Was. Between. TC Electronic. Combo. Saving up now
Are you getting the 210 combo? I've had one for 2 years now. Gigged it, been to loads of rehearsals with it. I keep on thinking I need something different, then I plug it in and it just does its stuff. It's got a good range, some nice features like the semi parametric mid eq, headphone socket, DI out, aux in. Being the size it is, it's usable as a practice amp at home. There you see, just talked myself out of getting a new rig
17.
I'm not really a Fender fan but this bitsa bass is stunning. http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1213950
That's really rather stunning. My CS would be almost identical. But then you could get it built by someone other than Fender for cheaper.
18.
open e for half an hour, 4 to the bar 15 bpm, then A, then D, then G. Repeat until somebody throws you out.....
That'll explain the sign in most Devon music shops that has your picture on it with "DO NOT LET THIS MAN IN!" written underneath then.
19. Although my wife doesn't play bass at all, she has always picked up whatever basses I own and tried them out for size so to speak. Out to the 4 I've owned since being together she... point blanked refused to even look at the Hohner B2A as she said it was just daft. (I did own this bass some time ago and she could be petulant and childish back then ) found the Rockbass Corvette both heavy and uncomfortable. Although the bass has a small body, the way it sits just seems to make the neck further away. She finds the the Ibanez SR the best, and if she were to ever buy a bass for herself this would be the one. It's light, comfortable and sits well on the strap. Surprisingly it was only the chunkier neck that was her only quibble with regards the Precision bass I own. Otherwise it was quite nice she said, comfy etc. Considering my wife doesn't like the look of P basses this was quite some step to actually admitting to liking the bass. Apart from me not minding the chunkier neck of the P, my wife's opinion pretty much mirrored mine. The only one I've found uncomfortable and heavy was the Corvette. Great bass, just found it wasn't for me, maybe because I'm a skinny little git
20.
Are we allowed to use the 'R-word' on Basschat..?
It would seem so as it's not fallen foul of the filth filter.
21. My actual playing would probably improve if I sat down and practice all the really useful stuff I've read on here or via the links posted on here. Gear, I know loads more from this forum. I'm probably more confident, but there are other reasons for that as well. I've stopped gauging myself against others, I can play what I play and the only way to play what I can't is to practice (which with limited time can be difficult). Mostly for me I think it's been more my awareness of so much more music. I've now got a reputation amongst friends as buying some really obscure music. And my appreciation of different genres is broader now, which has had a big influence on my playing and what I want to play. That's the biggie for me. It's not that I want to be this player or that player, but I listen to things now and I think, how do you play that? and how could I use that? Oh sh*t there's loads of stuff. Wait...no...I was brilliant before basschat EDIT: Forgot to mention the people. Although I've never met some of them in person, I regard them as some of my best mates.
22. I do wish they'd stop sifting through the spare parts cupboard. It makes you wonder who is coming up with these designs. Fender should trawl the bass forums and look at the bitsa projects, they out do these silly designs.
23. I've just put a set of Fender 9050 Flats on my P bass. Sounds great.
24. On my Ibanez SR I use D'Addario EXL170's On my Squier P, it's currently got some Roto's on it. They're fine, but I shall be putting some flatwounds on soon, not sure which ones yet.
25.
Always a compromise between playability and rock 'n' roll. Hence I wear mine like this ..
Must say, being able playing your bass that low somewhat dispels any claims that you've got a huge.....
