1.
Anyone tried both these cabs? I've been slightly thinking about a UL410 when the Tec caught my eye too. Aside from the £300 price difference - anyone got any opinions on these 2? ta
I haven't tried the Tech , but I have the UL410 , and it's great . When it was reviewed in Bass Player , they loved it , but said that it maybe wasn't that great for rock styles . I find that it'll do pretty much anything (all down to taste I know) I see Dood mentioned the UL610 , and I bought his off of him . Awesome cab - think UL410 but more bottom if needed . If you look at the web page of the Bass Gallery , you'll see the Epifani prices WELL down on what they were . So much so that , the UL610 I bought from Dood , that was selling new for around £1500 , is now up for £900 -the price I paid 2nd hand I happily paid that , as it was a series one ( a bit lighter ) , and I bought , for me , the perfect cab . If you check out their web page , the UL410's are now around £700 I think , not cheap , but a lot cheaper that they were . The only problem I can see , is being able to AB both cabs , as it always seems to be that one retailer doesn't stock all of the high end bass gear . ie if you want Epi - it's the Gallery , Bergs - it's Bass Direct etc . What we need , is for someone to win the Lottery jackpot , and open a large unit factory , buy every possible cab on the market , and then set up a 410 room , a 112 room etc - to propery AB them , as by the time you've tried one at a shop , you've almost forgotten the sound when you have to travel miles to the next shop . I'm rambling now I know .
 2.
I can't recall any time when Bass Player slated BGM. They printed a couple of letters from people that were negative towards 'Guitar World's Bass Guitar' magazine, but I don't think they said anything about BGM.
You're probably right . I'm probably mistaken . This happens to me more frequently , now I've past 40 .
 3. I too had a browse in 'Smiths a month or two ago (Chris Wolstenholme on the cover) Skinny is not the word . I remember a few years back , them slating BGM in a real underhand way - like they're in a position to talk . I too have some old copies , right back to the days when it was quarterly . And although a monthly mag is going to take a hit , content wise when compared to every 2 or 3 month editions , it really is piss poor now . Tend to buy Guitar and Bass sometimes , and that's quite interesting . As for Guitarist Magazine , I still remember the first edition , when Bassist went back to the fold , and they promised a vibrant bass section , and it wouldn't drop . Well now , when I can be bothered , I scan through the latest editions at the shop , and you'll be lucky to get one revue . Roger Newell must have the cushiest job in the world .

 5.
New website looks good, just having a browse now.
I can't get in . I click onto my old "favourite" - Gallery on line , then go to enter the shop , and "web page is unavailable" Tried googling , and nothing
 6.
I'm just wondering because the more i think about the guitar player in our band, the more i don't really like him. Obviously, we have to work with poeple you don't like, so do you think this applies to being in a band as well? The problem is that we live in the middle of nowhere and we're having enough trouble finding anyone as it is, so we can't really afford to ditch him so i dunno i just have to work with what the hell i got i suppose.
Is this the same thread as the one asking if you've ever been in a band with your other half ?
 7. Do they sound any different from the Aphex rackmount one (the one with the big bottom and aural exciter) ? Anyone compared them ?
 8.
I've got a mate who plays through a Jason Orange guitar amp
I forgot to say , that the guitar he uses is a Lynsey de Paul

 10.
Loud it is not. Had one and could never cut through anything. My Markbass LMK is far louder at 500w. Go figure. EA say their pots work differently than others, meaning you need to really run them with the knobs at 10 for full volume whereas other brands have all the volume at 3-4 and then little extra after that. Smells like .... to me. Plus I had serious reliability issues with mine that Overwater too were gents with. Having said that, you would be able to sculpt an amazing dub tone with it - but you could also do that with Markbass.
I think the way EA set their volume and gain controls , makes more sense . All other manafacturers seem to set theirs differently . Meaning on say an Eden (what I use) and especially on guitar amps , the volume is set so that all of the volume comes in really early . This tends to give the impression that the amp is louder than it is . So when the amp is tested , the bloke in the shop can say , "look how loud it is , it's only on 2 " What he fails to tell you , is that beyond , say 5 , there is no difference . I don't personally like the EA tone , but I think they should be applauded for setting up their amps like this . I think it shows a distinct lack of marketing bollocks , that prevails with others

 12.
Do you not have PA support? J
Didn't this weekend - vocals only . Not a problem with the pubs mind , and most rally do's are big PA - full support . It's just those noisy bastard guitarists and a drummer with a seriously loud kit . I'm just of the mind , of a 2U power amp as an extra , that can be hooked up on the couple occasions when it might be needed . I'm not a power freak - just trying to obtain a bit of headroom .
 13. Not sure if this has already been done . I'm after power amp suggestions . This weekend , my trusty Eden WT400 was struggling on a marquee gig volume wise . Both clips were on , too much for my liking . More headroom is what I think I need . As these gigs for me are more upcoming . I don't fancy another head if I can help it , so a power amp seems the likely route , as I like to Eden sound . Any ideas guys and galls on a stomping amp . I was thinking of Crown K2 bridged - that sort of thing . Anyone on here run a power amp aswell as an amp for the big gigs - and what do you use and why ?
 14. Years ago , I did a holiday camp gig with the band and we were booked to support Brian Poole (Tremoloes fame) and his band Electrix , I believe . Us on first for the kiddies stuff - hokey cokey , all the Black Lace numbers etc . Then Brian Poole Then us to finish - with our stomping rock After out first set , I went backstage , to be greeted by Brian Poole trying to squeeze himself into a girdle - Rock'n'Roll I've never forgotton it Oh and he never spoke (arogant twat) , but the band were great - really up for a laugh .
 15.
In all fairness,Nathan East has been endorsing Yamaha basses since about '81
I realise this , it's just the other stuff . The EUB's have been - Clevinger , then NS , now Yamaha . The amps have been - Eden , now Aggie . DI's , and pedals - can't remember names , but I remember a fair few . Strings - Elites , now Dunlop . Rocca Prestia's going the same way - SWR to Eden to TC - all in a few years . The point I'm making is that , it sort of makes me laugh that they think we're buying into it . Though some obviously do - but they still seem to sound the same .
 16.
Re Zender Warwick. It wasn`t so long ago he thought the sun shined out of his Gibson les paul bass. And yes, it is overpriced and damm ugly, imo. Jez
If he's not careful , he's going to end up like Nathan East . I've lost count of the amount of basses , EUB's , strings , DI's , effects , that blokes endorses . I wonder how he plays them all
 17.
Just had the post delivered, which in itself is amazing, and the latest BGM flopped onto the doormat. Oh dear . Richard Bona again, Chris Wolstenholme again, 4 x £1k(ish) upwards basses, one sub £300 (where's the middle ground?). Don't get me wrong I'm sure that Bona and Wolstenholme have their fans, but these guys seem to be on a permanent rota, surely there are enough other "name" players out there warranting some mag space. To be fair there is also an interview with Mark Bedford (hurrah!) and Horace Panter. Editing howler was in the Ed's letter no less referring to the London Jazz Festival details being on page 14, uh uh, page 12 as listed on the contents page. Some new guy attending the institute, so we start with another 12 months of the same "this month I have been mostly....." which we have seen a good few times before, enough already. Still my favourite bass mag and I will keep getting it on subscription, but after the few months of improvement this seems like a small backwards step for me at least, YMMV.
It is improving , seemingly month by month . Especially when you look at some of the early editions . I'm picking mine up tomorrow . As an aside , I had a look at the latest Bass Player in Smiths (Wolstenholme on the cover) , and there seemed nothing in it . I used to buy this one all the time , but looking at it now - not worth it . I ended up buying Guitar and Bass Magazine - always loads of stuff inside of interest - not just bass . BGM is getting better , you've got to admit it
 18.
Funy that - if I want to listen to virtuosic bass I listen to some Meshel or Bob Marley . With the sole exception of Michael Manring, who I dont actually think is playin bass, he is composing music on a four stringed instrement that fully deserves the Hyper tag. He still surprises, amazes and delights me with his compositions. And he really isnt w**k*** IMO. As for Vic, Alain, Marcus etc heard all they do ages ago
I've got a Manring album - Unusal Weather , I think it's called . Its great . I agree with the others about bass albums though . I got the Jaco debut album years ago , cause "I thought I should have it " , and after the first listen ,it went with all the other bass albums . I prefer his Joni Mitchell stuff to his more solo outings . I bought a Marcus Miller in concert DVD and it's dreadful . Great playing - no doubt about it , but I just can't stand the tuneless tunes . I thought it was me , but I'm glad I'm in esteemed company .
 19. You'd wonder why no-one yet has (to my knowledge) , produced one just for slap . By that I mean a dedicated pedal , with a graphic plus either compressor or limiter . One pedal , one board space , job done .
 20. I'm suprised that no-one has mentioned the Clone Theory yet (the original one) . I'm no chorus expert , but having had a few over the years , this has been the best . Only problem is , it's quite big in size by today's standards .
 21. Years ago when I was about 19 or 20 , I was playing with a Pub / Function band , and we had a sort of local gig at a town pub In the break , some bad blood between the keyboard player's wife and another local couple , spilled out , and the boyfriend of the other woman ended up on the back carpark floor , with our drummer looking over him , having just smacked him . I thought this would be the end of it - but no . As we were packing up , the aformentioned couple were outside the pub shouting all sorts , and this attracted all the local yobs at kicking out time . I was in the back of the van loading up with the guitarist , when I heard him shout "look out Paul , here they come !!" I looked over the baulkhead , to see a small mob , rocking on the archway gate , which came crashing down . The guitarist ran into the pub , and I just sort of froze , I couldn't get my head around what was happening The van back doors were opened by some of the mob , saw me , swiftly closed them-locking me in , and proceeded to rock the van like f**k , trying to tip it over . All the time I could hear shouts and screams from the pub , over the din of the van trying to be turned over . When the doors were opened and I was 'rescued' , I went into the pub to find the guitarist nursing a broken little finger , his wife with a head cut from a cymbol being chucked at her , and the drummer sitting down - he apparently clobbered most of them as they piled in one by one through the door . Oh and by the way , the keyboard player and his wife had run into the kitchens and hid together until it all calmed down . The Rozzers turned up much later , as per normal , and I saw the Landlord hand over a wad of notes to one of them behind the bar , under the counter , and off they went . Turned out that his licence was coming up for renewel , and I can only presume that this was some sort of hush money . After all these years , I still feel somewhat guilty for being stuck in the van , although I was locked in , but not being a big scrapper , and only little more than a kid at the time , I wonder what real use I would have been . Ahhh memories
 22. I bought Dood's Epifani 610 ul , and it will cover everything - don't need anything else . Only issue is small gigs (deps) , but haven't done one of those for a few years now . Bitchin cab
 23. Earlier in the day , I'm normally out with the wife and kids . Then near 4pm , I start to mention that I need to get back for the gig . She cops the hump and says that all I think about is bass (your point?) . Then a massive rush , when she insists on making me a "quick tea" that takes me right up to the wire time wise . Love her really .
 24. Stones - 'Love you Live' . Double album . The Canadian club side sounds raw and you can almost feel the energy . The other 3 sides from a Paris stadium (I think) , err a bit more ropey . Though to be fair , this is how they sounded live around that time - ramshackle . I've got a Nine Below Zero album that I'd say is live . And as for The Eagles , I once saw a live concert on video (quite recent one-no more than 10yrs old) , and Joe Walsh took a solo , half way through , the close up on the neck bore scant regard to what I was hearing .
 25.
We've played L.A. ... That's Long Ashton, near Bristol
Yeah , I've played in California - that's California Sands near Yarmouth . I've also played in the West End - that's the West End pub in Feltwell Norfolk (was renamed later as The Bell , and soon became known as both names - The Bell End)
