We used to play "Ace of Spades" for whenever anyone asked if we played any metal. That was like a full moon to the meathead werewolves for us!!

When you play with a pick, the movement should be from the wrist, not the elbow. It will make it less tiring for you, and if needed, will allow you to play faster. If you aren't used to playing with a pick, and you plan on doing so on saturday, i'd probably say that thinner is better!

Actual basslines this month eh... now that's a novel idea

I've bought him the Stuart Clayton book recommended earlier. He can work through that as he wants to. Like I said, he won't be keen to have lessons off me, but I'll try and teach him a few things, without him knowing that's what I'm doing. If that fails, I'll get him off his face on guiness and red wine.

Yeh i get that, i thought of it as a good excercise to "connect" his fretting and plucking hand. I'll take that on board though. Excercise will still work playing it as 1,2&4 on each string. Cheers!

Firstly if you are tuning your E and A strings to a point where you think they might snap, loosen them a bit because they're probably tuned sharp (too tight). It shouldn't take much turning of the tuners to hit the "next" note, whatever that may be. Im guessing here, but im assuming "D2" & "G2" mean you've tuned them an octave too high. This means you'd need to slacken the tuning pegs, to get back to D and G "standard" Hopefully someone with this app could confirm this to be the case. Please excuse me if i'm stating the obvious to you here, but you said you are a beginner so....

Marc - I do think it is partly natural, although some is possibly picked up depending on the environment you were brought up in. I know people who cant clap along to a song on ANY beat let alone the 2 & 4. And they're amazed when i tell them as much. No clue as to what is wrong with what they're doing. Then my wife, who doesnt play anything, was clapping along "in time" to a 3/2 cuban style bassline i was learning

I have all of Jons lessons saved in a folder, but i didn't go to him when i was an absolute beginner. So i cant refer back unfortunately. They're there for when he's ready though.
