1. Played the Half Moon as a short notice fill in as they had two bands cancel and the venue flattered us by saying we'd be good value for walk ups. The Support band 'Hundred Ways' described themselves as 'indie geek punk'. They were much better than that sounds though. Enjoyed their set. They have some good songs and are a bit unusual. Their bass player turned up without an amp and I felt a bit mean for not letting him use my rig. I would have had he asked in advance. Their drummer managed to contact us and sort out a kit share easily enough. Luckily they have a house Trace head and Ashdown 4x10 tucked away for these situations that I didn't know about. Very sparse crowd but we played well and treated it as a stage rehearsal. Hard to get our crowd out at short notice on a school night. On to the Inn On Th Green on the 15th. Already a good crowd confirmed for that one.
2.
Is the A303 really 178 miles long? I was only 24 hours from Falmouth ...
92 miles long in reality. Poetic licence. It does include the M3 in the lyrics but I skipped the A30 at the end.
3. One called "90 Miles Down 88 To Go" A road song about the A303 complete with a Chuck Berry style bass intro. It's uptempo and easy to play. Gets us straight in the groove,
4. Beg your pardon. Mine is an 'Axis' from Japan.... It looks similar but is even uglier!
5. I've got one of those. It's really a very nice neck. Mine says jazz but is much closer to precision size. Horribly ugly headstock. I was just going to paint it with a design on it that breaks up the shape.
6. Got some last week. I'm very impressed with the service and quality. I shall be test driving them for the public at the Half Moon on Thursday.
7. The Zoom Q3 is good if you want excellent sound and aren't too bothered about video quality. Easily good enough for youtubing.
8. I did the same with wood glue about 2 years ago when I put strap locks with the skinnier screws in the precision and they were loose.. 20 odd gigs and 70 odd rehearsals later it's still solid.
9. I'm leaning toward the white one. With red DR strings for the Brentford stylee. I think it will photograph better. If I get on with it pimping will definitely occur.
10.
...... a decent mic at the right height .......
We did a gig with an inexperienced band recently and the two on vocals both had their heads bent over the mics in the soundcheck. The sound guy jumped up on stage, raised the mics a couple of inches and pointed them upwards. The difference was amazing and they looked so much more confident too.
11. Help me make my mind up Still don't know which colour?
12. His Ric-a-likes will be arriving at the end of October. I've commited to one but can't make up my mind on colour. As well as the Black with White scratcher and White with Black on his site. He's also getting all Black and Red with Black.
13.
What the fcuk is Nick Cave on??
I loved it...
14. A secondhand Line 6 KB37? You can do all that keyboard malarkey too then.
15. Sexism aside. The Ball bearings in a bucket style doesn't do a lot for me.
16.
It has flatwound strings on it, not old ones, and has some foam in the bridge cover. Should I try changing the strings first? Should I get active pickups? Or just sell it and try a Jazz?
I know a lot of people love flats on a precision but I can't get on with them. Try some rounds and lose the foam.
17. Nothing much here to deter me from my dislike of 99% of 80s music. Luckily I wasn't sufficiently on the ball to notice what was going on at the time. 80s tinny, reverby drums make me want to perforate my eardrums.
18. FA cup round 2 that day. It's down to our first round luck and how the balls come out of the bag....
19.
It does, a little. It has an inherent tone, which a lot of players like. Then again, its all down to if it suits your tastes. It does suck the mids, and give you quite a modern 'Ampeg being thrashed at hi gain' when you crank the gain, but I love it. Excellent bit of kit!
+1 I can detect a little compression when I use it. I love the sound of these.
20. Funny how the colour turns it from an uninspiring plank into an object of desire. I love pelham blue on Gibsons.
21. I like the Cheap Trick blokes bass sound. Therefore I'm in. Just need another two bass rigs.
22. Mark Flea or JJB Robbie Shakespeare Paul Gray - Eddie & the Hot Rods, Damned, UFO one not the Slipknot one.
23. Thanks Clarky. Just booked another one. Fri 16th October with the JC Caroll (the Members) trio at the Inn On The Green, Notting Hill. Sound of the Suburbs will be sung.
24. Next gig. 30th September at the Half Moon, Putney Plus 2 support bands. We're back on 7th January as well. Turning into the worlds slackest house band.
25. What? You'll have to speak up..... ER20s I think they're called. Dave's kit certainly pushes out the volume.
