1. I only do it for the sex and the money. In all seriousness though. Every single gig I've done with the current band has been fun. We've got better every single time and the thrill of seeing people dance and clap their hands to a tune I've written/co-wrote and performed for them just knocks my socks off. Plus I really like my bandmates. They're two of the nicest blokes I've ever known. If I didn't enjoy it I would pack it in. I don't even mind all that settting up and breaking down stuff. It's all part of rock n roll and getting out there to me. I just wish we could do more.
2. Calling Happy Jack.... Yes is the answer anyway.
3.
Thanks Adam - think Mrs C drunk it all Would white spirit double up as a meths-alike?
It should do (although I find it has a more tangy aftertaste... ) Don't do it while the strings on the bass though.
4. I just leave my dignity behind. Works every time.
5. Sweet Home Alabama ended my, and indeed my bands, covers career. I recall I said something like "We're four blokes from West London playing in a freezing shed on an industrial estate near Feltham. What the **** are we playing a song about Alabama I don't even like?" That said we did play Mr Brightside and Sex On Fire for the drummers daughters 18th and it was a hoot but I'm glad I'll never have to play them again.
6.
Short @rse Adam
I am the only known 5'10" hobbit. Curse 6'9" guitarists.
7.
There's no great technical virtuosity to what Hooky does, but stylistically he's an innovator. I think that makes him good. Jon.
Well put. I agree.
8. Or swapped bands!
9. I've joined the Jetsonics up. Jetsonics at RTYD If you're in a band that's not in the first flush of youth I'd say join. What harm can it do. Toby who runs it is knocking his pipe out to put on gigs for very little reward. I just think it's nice to support someone who's promoting music for all the right reasons.
10.
I'll take it! Pm'd.
You won't regret. I love mine more every time I use it. It goes Grrrrr just the way I like it.
11.
Go for it Ad, I really want to borrow that bass ...
Even when it's got roundwounds on it and it's covered in scratches and Brentford stickers? And don't try to lure me into you and Clarky's game of pass the bass parcel. I'm not playing....
12. Yes and no. My bank manager was kind of hoping that it was like a skinny jazz so I could ignore it.
13. Hi Jimmy, Would you say the neck was more like a Precision or a Jazz in feel/dimensions?
14. 'S well known you get an improv immunity certificate with each new SVT.........
15. Have we had 'Generation X - Dancing With Myself' yet? Works very well with that.
16. We've been offered a gig there. Thanks to the using the search facility for a change I found this thread. I think we'll go for it
17. I'd been struggling with root notes. When we wrote a song I'd try and desperately tart up the bass lines all over the shop when the best one is often the root played rhythmically. (I blame Basschatters turning up at gigs) If it's just the root and it sounds good for that bit of the song I'll go with it now.
18. I like a bit of precision boom with a bit of growl. "Bowel"
19. Photo's don't do the yummy green justice. This is a lovely bass.
20. We all know there is only one rig. SVT
21.
Was that the same Polish guy on Saturday who was calling out for cover versions of songs by The Cult?
No. He fell into the inebriated South African camp. "Play something that ****s up my head" was a good one too. I fear we were too late.
22. "You should do a few covers" Get this helpfull advice a lot. Drunken/medicated and incoherent South Africans are quite high on the list at the moment. "You should do a few covers" "I used to play bass in a band.........." "You should do a few covers" The best was from a Polish guy who comes to a fair few of our gigs. Just after I got my new rig and the drummer had played a bit more forcibly than usual. "Your bass was sounding huge this time. Your drums were awesome too. You. (to the guitarist) You sound the same"
23.
Cracking gig Low End Bee! Dry ice and lasers too - who could want more? Sorry I missed all but the end of Jack's set as I couldn't get there til just after 10. Well played gents
Thanks for coming Clarky. Nothing like a smoke machine and lasers in a pub gig is there? Thanks also to Happy Jack and the Brentford Nylons for a cracking set to start off the night.
