1. Happy Jack's trio the Brentford Nylons and my band the Jetsonics are doing a gig together. Coach and Horses, Isleworth on Saturday 4th September 9pm 'til midnight. Part of the Brentford Festival. It's free too. I look forward to a front row of BCers with scorecards in a Strictly Come Bass Playing style again.
2. He can play bass and sing. That's enough in my book. I love the first Police album. Saw them live a couple of times before they broke into the charts and they were amazing. I don't have love for his later stuff but I don't see anything to knock in his playing either. I'd love to write a song as good as Next To You. Sometimes the simple stuff is best. He managed to cock it up on the reunion tour when he jazzed it up though.
3.
It's worth £200 all day long. Slightly gutted I paid £300 now of course! Such is life.
The £200 has a bolt on neck. The setr neck like yours appears to be £249. So not so bad. I'm toying with going for the Musicbacker.
4. Not going for it. It's very nice but I prefer mine. I'd only be buying it for the 'vibe' and I can't really justify a grand for that. I'm not into buying and selling. So if you want it. It's at: Jaywalk Guitars 127 High Street Street BA16 0EX tel 01458 441141
5. Thanks guys. I'm hoping to go back for a proper check in the next couple of days when I haven't got the vast LEB clan distracting me. If I pass on it I'll let you all know where it is. Dammit. I've been gas free for ages
6. Down in the West Country this week. I've just seen a rather nice Precision with an S76 prefix serial number. It's black with a black scratchplate and a maple neck. Not too heavy. All original apparently and only missing the tin covers. It maybe needs a fret skimming but felt and played really nicely. The paintwork is very clean with the finish intact and just the odd small dent. It's up for £995. Is this a reasonable price?

Totally, absolutely shocked. We'd just started swapping lots of PM's and emails recently as he was going to help with my lyric writers block. A true funny, lovely, gent. One of the good guys for sure. RIP Si.
8. I wholly approve of this idea. I want a red sparkly precision.
9. I'd rather listen to an hour* of Sid cocking up than a minute of some of the technical twiddlers that some people wet their pants over on here. I think the 'awful' description is open to a lot of interpretation. *Well maybe 10 minutes.
10.
Wooten would have been good in the Pistols.
Agreed. Or that Alain Caron bloke.
11.
Didn't Paul Simonon join The Clash six weeks after starting to learn bass? Or is than an Urban Legend?
I believe he learnt on the job. They rehearsed for hours and hours every day. He got there by dedication and little stickers with the notes written on them on his fret board.
12. Hard one innit. Sid wasn't your most gifted player. I think he did a decent job considering he was off his crust all the time and hadn't had more than a couple of months to learn from scratch. But he was a better choice for the Pistols than someone like Jaco Pastorius* would have been. It wasn't a technique based decision. Horses for courses. If the band's successful the bass player obviously works in the line up. Doesn't matter if they're any good or not. *Managed to get him in the thread
13. If you're going to keep the bass and it's your main one do it. I always regret that the best Precision I played when I was buying was sunburst. I like solid colours and sonic blue is one of the best. Matching headstocks are lovely too.
14. I'll have a Gus bass. In sunburst with a maple neck and single pickup please. Forgot the Badass.....
15.
in the movie The London Rock'n'Roll Show 1972?
Wilko Johnson was on guitar
16. Excellent. I went on a weekend with a mate a long time ago and we stayed in one of those dormitory style hostels. When we returned after an evening sampling various Amsterdam goodies we found two German chaps in our beds. After a 'heated discussion' we managed to evict them and settled down for the night. When we woke up the hostel didn't look like the one we booked into to. Because it wasn't........
17. Sounds a good one MR C. If I wasn't in Somerset that day.... Buy Charlie Harper a Sanatogen Tonic Wine from me.
18. I stick mine on top of my TC cab and run a bit of gaffer tape through the handles and over the top to keep it secure.
19. Both precisions with one as a spare. Never needed the spare so far.
20. Gear Acquisition Syndrome.. In the last 3 years I've bought none and sold one. I'm down to two!
21. Four metal strings too. Bargain
22. Toby who runs RTYD is a top bloke.
23.
There is now an electric piano out there that costs £6K and weighs as much as, you guessed it, a real piano. What was the point of that!!
You can plug it straight into a Marshall stack
24. Using that logic just call yourselves 'the Function Band' then.
