Be nice to the sound man. Don't write the set list in hi-lighter pen (I know someone reasonably famous who did this)

My Sansamp BDDI is always on my board in case the sound bod is having problems with the amp line out. It always works well and saves effing about for half an hour. I'll set the amp flat so stage monitoring is in the same sound ball park. The sound people at places I play actually like it when the fuzz pedal is used for a couple of songs. Gives them something to do with a three piece band.

Update. I've just picked the RV4 Rickenfaker up from a service. The E string was rattling a bit behind the fret so I guessed (correctly) that the nut was cut too low on the bass side. They've put in a tiny ebony wedge under the nut that has sorted this completely. Also done were a truss rod tweak, fret dress, all pots, switches and jack upgraded, copper shielding of the cavity and interestingly the neck tone control changed to a variable coil tap. It really has completely upped the performance of the bass in every way. I'm chuffed to bits. The action is now fast and low. There were four Ric's in the shop. Two 4001's and two 4003's and the tech said it blew them all away in playability. He was very impressed with it. Hence him doing lots of extra stuff to it that I didn't ask for at no cost! It still sounds more like a turbo charged precision and nothing like a Ric though which is OK by me. I'm going to give it another gig outing on Saturday if you want to see/hear it in action Jetsonics 29th gig

Bass And Backline Versus Front Of House
Low End Bee replied to The Dark Lord's topic in General Discussion
In my band the neanderthal is on bass and the pretty boy is on drums... -
I don't aspire to versatility. Pick for me. I can play fingerstyle. But I don't like to and I think it looks a bit odd.

Post your pictures, Lets see what you all look like.
A few from our WOMA tribute gig to our former bandleader, Doreen Thobekile, at the Roundhouse in London a couple of weeks ago. It was a truly wonderful and emotional night. The singer is Doreen's daughter, Ingrid, who sang with Soul II Soul in the '90s and with her mum. The rest of the band are me on bass and members of Transglobal Underground (who Doreen sang with for a while) we were Doreen's band for her solo work. Doreen sadly died in June last year from cancer. We miss her.
Fantastic photos mate. -
Looks, neck comfort, weight and a bit of unplugged sustain. If it's got all these I can always change the pickups and strings to make it a goer.

Nice review HJ. We may have to test it for you.
Would it be ok to express a less enthusiastic opinion on the terror bass head? I went into a local shop to A/B the orange TB and my tecamp puma 350. I was looking for a more valvey tone from a small head, so the TB would be an ideal choice. I played both of them through an orange sp10 cab with my T40. I walked back out with my tecamp. The TB has got a nice tone to it, but the eq on the orange might as well not have been there. I found that I wanted a bit more depth to the tone, but couldn't get it. The gain control does indeed add grit in a nice and touch-controllable way, but I found that it wasn't enough for me. Nice try, but i'll keep looking for something else. Don't shoot me, please, I just wanted to share...
Fair comment. They are a bit of a one trick pony. The EQ doesn't do a lot. I'm very happy with the sound but it depends what you're after and indeed how your bass sounds through it.

Jazz vs Precision sound - what's the difference
Low End Bee replied to Fat Rich's topic in Bass Guitars
Also Jazz basses have the word 'Jazz' written on them. Just like a Honda Jazz. They should therefore be avoided as they probably smell of wee. -
Jazz vs Precision sound - what's the difference

Jazzes go plinky-plunk and Precisions go thumpity thump. -
Just rang him. He says he's more a structural person but has recommended Marc Butterlin to people who've had the same problem.
Hey Ad, yeah this is more carpentry, French polishing territory than set-up work
I'll dig his number out for you.
Let me start by saying AAAAAARARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH My new Eminence EUB was sat happily on its stand in my sitting room but for reasons I am not clear about (cat ran into it perhaps?) it toppled over on to my wooden floor. The damage thankfully is not major and amounts to some splitting/fracturing of the lacquer on about an inch-and-a-half of the front player-side laminated wooden edge and a couple of small dints on the headstock. I would like to get these patched up or - if possible - fully repaired. So does anyone know of a luthier in the London/Surrey who might be capable of this type of work?
If they're not set up specific repairs I know a master carpenter who might be just the ticket.

My band the Jetsonics will be playing a gig at St Paul's in Brentford on Saturday 29th January. St Paul's is being used by Brentford promoter Helen Martin to establish a mid sized (200-500) local music venue in the area to see some quality music. It's a nice layout with a very reasonable licenced bar and a friendly atmosphere. There are plenty of pubs hosting covers and tribute bands in the West London area but mid sized venues hosting original music are virtually non existant. Future performers lined up include John Otway, Ian McNabb, the Members, etc. Along with Nick Lowe who played there in 2010 and managed to get a 500 strong turnout. We will also be raising funds on the night for a local charity. the Brentford Toy Library. The support band 100Ways are very good too. They remind me a bit of early XTC. Apart from us putting on a good show it's a chance to check out the venue and state your case with the promoter if you fancy playing there in the future. She's better on the performers cut than any other gig I've played! I'd love to see loads of people there. I want an established, local venue I can go and see good bands and I'd like to play there again too! Hope you can make it. Ad

Bad luck TB. Maybe you ought to ditch the '13'?

Ooh. I haven't had a go on here. I'm Ad from the Jetsonics. A three piece original rock band. We formed out of the ashes of a quartet known as Magic Ship (Classic Rock Magazines battle of the band winners) in late 2009 when we realised only one of us really liked americana stylee classic rock. We're a much more anglocentric rock band with nods to punk, power pop, glam, dub and even the odd disco bass line. We have written two sets worth of new material since and are currently working on recording an album/series of EPs with Steve Lyon who has produced the Cure, Depeche Mode, Amplifier, etc. Three tracks from the recording with Steve plus some early demo's, photo's and a video or two are up on the Jetsonics website. Reviews: Time Out - A poor mans Jam with fuzzy vocals..... TNT Magazine - Energetic three piece rock with gritty vocals... Bloke at Half Moon - You're like a lash up of the Clash, the Police and AC/DC! Very loud bloke in boozer - Can't you play some Guns N Roses?<repeat indefinitely>

I really liked using RS66 sets on a Precision. If it wasn't for peer pressure on here I'd probably still be using them and not dipping into my overdraft when I need new strings. You big bullies

Fender 60th Anniversary Precision confirmed!
Low End Bee replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
Now up on Fender website, not exactly a '51 reissue... http://www.fender.com/products/60th-pbass/...?prodNo=0196002
I like the look a lot. If it were half the price I'd be tempted. My guitarist has a Squier 51 to match. -
Love it. Huge sound. Great for a rock band. A lot of bass for £249. Gigged with distinction last Friday.

I use a TC Electronics RS210 and RS112. I don't really need the RS112 to be honest.
