1.
The 2008 - 11 are good basses, but imo the 2012 - 16 are better. The neck is chunkier, and the Custom Shop Pickups are much more vintagey voiced in comparison to the more modern sounding 08 - 11s. Both are finished very well, and are incredibly nice basses to play. If thinner neck but vintagey is your thing get an 08 - 11 and the Custom Shop 62 pickups, sorted.
Agreed I love my 2014 Am.Std Precision I tried the Am.Pro when they came out, but couldn't justify the difference in buying one. The Am.Std with the CS pickups just sounded better to me.
2.
Thats gorgeous... we should breed them and sell off the hofner cubs
That made me laugh
3.
Well this is what happened to me (now 55) I had a gorgeous 1978 P bass but I needed a forklift to pick it up, sounded great though. The Hofner is a perfect replacement for me for live work & Studio, sounds great with the traditional Ska music we play.
Well this maybe where I will end up back to my '64 in a few years maybe. I used to be fine with the tight string spacing though always played with a pick, here is my '64 taken about 5 years ago. Still love this bass . 4.
Shame to see you have retired it....
Yes it's been retired from everyday use since 1998 but who knows as I get older (50 this year), & the Precision becomes to heavy to lift it may come out of retirement & become my main bass again.
5. That looks really nice hope you have many happy years with it, I've had my '64 500/1 for 29 years now & still love it.
6. I always liked the look of the AVRI '57 Precision, blonde/maple neck with the gold scratchplate.
7. Like everyone has said the 2012-16 Am.Std are phenomenal and the Custom Shop pickups, are the finishing touch to these basses defiantly Fender's best to date. I bought mine new back in Jan '15 & love the light weight & great feeling neck, hope you enjoy owning yours as much as I am with mine . The only things I've added are Fender flatwounds & Fender strap locks .
8. What about a secondhand American special or American Standard?
9. Just behind the pickup & with a pick.
10. I am 50 this year & my wife asked me if I wanted a bass (not expensive) to mark the occasion. I have my Am.Std Precision in Olympic white / Maple neck strung with flats. I looked at the V4MTB only £248 classic look and if I put rounds on it, then I'll have the best of both sounds. Here is my question though is the body a full Fender body thickness, and not the thinner Squier type of body (it is a pet peeve of mine). And what is the weight like on these? Does anyone here own one and is the neck pocket thickness the same as a MIM/MIA Precision? I don't want her to spend a lot on a bass, that may not get used as much as my Am.Std. Just thinking as well how wide is the nut on this bass? Thanks in advance
11. When I got my Am.Std Precision back in Jan'15 it was £1171 almost 2 years on, £329 more gets you a '63 shaped neck & taller frets. new pickups & fluted tuners.
12. I hope he gets his basses back I'm sure in an interview he did a few years ago, he mentioned that someone had tried to nick his '61 Precision before.
13. I prefer the post 2012 Am.Std Precision's, & am still glad I managed to get my 2014 Am.Std .
14. I had the black one a very good bass to own.
15. I always loved the look of these basses, enjoy it
16. Nice looking bass just read Sting's interview, in this months BGM.
17. It's only the thinner bodies that put me off Squier's, yet the CV series was full body thickness.
18. I personally doubt Fender will drop the American made Standard basses, they could offer the Elite as a 1 or 2 pickup version & rename them the American Elite Series. As said in an above thread people (me included) want that big F word, and the better wording underneath Made In U.S.A. It would be like Ferrari making their cars in France there is heritage and history to take into consideration.
19. I have an original '64 500/1 (May 24th) s.n 687, which I have owned for the past 28 years Haven't played it much since 1998 as I went back to full scale basses, still love it though .
20.
Was his tech a guy with a Belfast accent? My friend Dave has regularly been his tech in the past.
All I remember is that he had a pony tail, but a friendly guy to talk to.
21. The pedal board in question. Can anyone turn these pictures the right way please.
22.
Agreed, which he tends to use on 'Start'.
Yes I read the headstock wrong & yes he had the Ashdown rig. Hopefully these will now load. The pedal board I'm not sure if it was Bruce's or the guitarists.
