I havn't read the above posts cos i'm in a rush, so apologies if this has been said before. Pick up a 2nd hand American Jazz bass with S1 switching, probly cost you about £500 - £600. The S1 switch changes the neck pickup between series and parrallel, giving you Jazz tones when off and Precision tones when on! Nice Si

I've seen a nice looking japanese jazz bass for £340 in a shop and wondered if that was a good price for it, its 2nd hand with a few dings etc. The serial number on the back of the headstock dates it to 1993 - '94. The slightly odd thing is that it has what looks like a flamed maple front, the guy in the shop said that some of those era japanese models used a 'photo-front' (like the paisley designs?). Is that true or is it a retro-fitted body? Cheers guys Si
