1. So i went out and bought a 5/64 allen key (19p lol).............to big!! Which means, on an imperial set the 1/16 is to small and the size above it, said 5/64, is to big!!! I asked the guy in the hardware shop what 1.4x40 meant, and he didn't know lol In the Immortal words of Timmy "Please help me!!!.........GOBBLES" Si
2. Mate, you can definitely find a Stingray for cheaper then £1400!! Just keep looking around! With regards to Yamaha, in my opinion you're not going to get anything close to a similar tone to a MM SR with any model, they're stuff is all well built and solid, but I'm not a fan! Si
3. ok cool, cheers well i was in wilko's briefly and saw a key set that was measured in inches, brought it on the offchance for 99p. The smallest size is 1/16" and is to small! :-s How does the measurement 1.5 x 40 fit in? On the Maplin imperial set above, do people think it would be the 5/64 size i need? Si
4. Oh really, didn't know that! Maybe the SUBs weren't selling well? Oh well, at least you'll e able to pick them up even cheaper now....discontinued model and all! :-D I use an OLP, albeit heavily modded hardware & pickups/electronics, for Drop C tuning in my band (until fender give me an endorsement....yeah right), and its wicked. But yeah, about 1 in 5 are any good. Mines got a slightly slimmer neck compared to alllll the others i tried when setting them up in the music shop i worked at. Si
5. 3 Klondike Bass straps on my 3 main basses. Nice and wide and thick.........completly the opposite of me :-D Si
6. Beautiful bass, if only i was in a position to buy!! Let me know if u'd take trades on..........ummmmmmmm...........hmmmmmmmmm........... ....... i got some scratchplates for sale!!!!! :-D Good luck dude, fantastic bass!! Si
7. Like Funk says above, it depends on your budget, but i'd go for a SUB (or any of the above suggestions) over an OLP..........unless u can try a load, they're a bit like mexi fenders, some are great, some are godawful. Si
8. Yes you need to have a CRB check, which the school provides the forms for, it costs about £10 i think, although my school payed for it. They take about 3 weeks to a month to go through! Oh and as far as i'm aware, you need to have a separate check for each establishment you work in! Si
9. Hey mate, i can't really give any advice as to how to get the job, the school i work at phoned me up out of the blue. But i will give u a couple of words of warning, its really different from teaching privately. Mainly the 20min lessons that most schools use! Thats when the pupils even turn up. I'm getting to the point now where i'm so fustrated with barely being able to sit down and ask how they are before they have to go again, that i'm thinking about just going back to private! Not that i want to put you off! Si
10. Ah ok Can i get Imperial keys from most DIY stores? Cheers a lot Si
11. Well you can't go wrong with a Stingray!! Perhaps an alternative to that might be a Fender USA Precision Deluxe, has a Humbucker in the same place. Look around for second hand versions of both to ease that financial stumbling block The SUBS seem to get good reviews, but i havn't tryed one, as far as i'm aware you can get Active & Passive models, the active obviously being closer to the actual Stingray Sound. I do know though that the finishes they use on the bodies can put some off!. But whatever you decide.....stay away from the Variax!!! Please!!! haha Si
12. 1 x 4ply Tortoiseshell/White/Black/White USA Fender Jazz 5string Scratchplate - NEW!! - £30 (Official Fender) Any questions etc, just post or PM Will accept trades for anything anyones got that takes my fancy, especially interested in a fretted Jazz Neck, maple fingerboard perhaps? Doesn't have to be anything fancy, a copy neck is fine (fender shape headstock), as long as its solid and in decent nick, ie no knackered frets or truss rods . Blocks and Binding bonus! Cheers Si
13. Hey all! I've got two American Fender Jazz's, I've never had to adjust the action on my Standard so hadn't noticed, but on the Deluxe that I've just acquired i tried to raise the action and realised that the allan keys i had didn't fit! The smallest key was to small, and the next size up was to big. Then tryed it on my USA standard and same thing, then asked my housemate about his USA Tele, and same problem! Anyone have an idea? Si
14. Currently Gassing after 99ster's '72 Jazz This is after having satisfied my 'Actve Jazz Bass' GAS the other week Si

17.
Doesn't have a clue...2 pickups, BOTH are humbuckers, not one!
Its just one humbucker isn't it? The other is just a standard split single coil!? Si

19. I wear Doc Proplugs, non-vented, for every single gig that i do! Including all gigs and other 'loud' events that i go to. I even put them in once when i went to a bowling alley, it was ridiculously loud lol. They form part of my 'every morning pickup', Keys, Wallet, Phone, Plugs I'm aiming to have a hearing test soon and get some fitted plugs soon though Si
20. Could be mate, until i get the pot cleaned up and sorted beyond my basic 'Bass Care' skills, i don't think i trust whats coming out the amp completely when i turn it. Does anyone know of any info from fender or otherwise or t'internet about these older models, an archive or something? Cheers Si
21. I can see what he means though, you can emulate fretless playing quite easily with lots of slides etc. Richard Bona mostly just uses his Fodera 5 Fretted live, and just emulates all his various sounds using his Roland V-Bass, pretty good fretless sound, certainly for live use. Si

23. Played a gig with a guy who used a Nord the other day.....awesome sound!!! I have a few different basses, a number of tools for different jobs, thas all. But comfort and personal preference does come into it! Si
24. ah ok, thanks, yeah it is quite a pronounced difference, didn't know if that was a preamp characteristic or a dodgy bit of wiring!, its all good though. Just checked the serial number on the fender site and its dated between 1998 - 1999 Cheers mate Si

South East Bash

Well we were never gonna please everyone with a date, its sometimes best to just say a date and see what the attendance is like after the dust settles. This is the first of any UK bash I'll be able to get to due to gigs, although i do have one that night i should have plenty of time to get back. Si
