1. A 212 doesn't interest me as if I was going to run that size and wieght... I would rather go with 10's Just as a single 112 is lacking, IMV, so is a single 210...especially when compared with the sound of both types paired. I can tell the difference between my NEO 12's paired and my 210's ( non-NEO, as it happens) paired. Maybe I would think the sound is close...if I didn't have both configs but then I wouldn't consider a 112 as any sort of solution.. Not a fan of single chassis cabs and certainly not alone...but the 2x210 is far superior, IME. 300watts and less typically is still asking a lot from the chassis in terms of frequency and performance. I would expect the single to possibly handle the volume well enough...but that is about it for my needs. The amp would be pushing hard..and some don't cope well with that..and the driver working overtime as well. 2x112 is a decent compromise though...but an expensive way of buying a 212 config... but I would still rather carry 2x112 plus more easily stackable in smal boots.
2. Be careful with low powered combos that you buy with a view to gig at some point possibly. I normally use the studio Ashdown MAG 15 type which is borderline ok soundwise with a bit of tweaking, for a rehearsal..but it was broken so the only thing available was a 100 HH 15 combo. Now, I understand that these combos get a caning, but jeez, what a pile of pooh..!! I needed to get some volume out of it and it was pretty much unusable and the EQ was woeful. So, normally I would say TE are decent value but if they are tired old units then you need to know you can use it ... A 100w wound up is a hard trick for these units these days... I suggest Markbass 102 combo for a band at reasonable volume...as it is light and decent sounding and it will cost you £600 ish SH...
3.
i'd ban cover bands....
There would be no bands then that people would go and see..... almost..
4. LL regularly used to pull the power if bands played songs on her banned list... but that was when the pub has a decent rota of bands.. was funny at first...
5. great cabs... even better paired up..and they look the biz
6. agree with getting a proper one custom made.... there are some cheap and nasty prints out there... and they really don't work
7. + 1 for a DB head...but can't find atm
8.
I politely disagree with this statement - it is possible to roll off the attack on a active bass by cutting the EQ (presuming you have a bass with cut and boost EQ) - and remember it's all in the fingers as well - changing playing attack achieves this also.
My basses go passive anyway, but, no, not possible to roll off the bass as it is boost only.
9.
A 112 is not a replacement for a 410. 2x112 cabs might get close (if they are good ones) but they still won't be an equivalent in a loud band. I use 2 Bergantino 112 cabs and they replaced a 410, but I never pushed the 410 very hard.
Agree with this.... I run 2x112 and they are good but they are no match for my 2x210's when it really gets down to it You can try a few 112's but you are going to have to have 2 for a pokey band sound and even then they will not outdo a decent 410 config. 2x112 is a decent weight save compromise.
10. Not all Jazzes with the rear pickup fired up get the sound. You'll need to roll off the attack a bit.... which is why active basses don't work so well. But he opened up that technique so a lot of it is just Jaco.
11. OVW....??? where is that..? I'm doing the Brewery on sunday but plan to go all weekend. Got it...Old Wine Vaults.
12. Best event of the summer around these parts IMO... 20,000 people in the town over two days and it is now mostly about beer and music but with decent weather..it is a great event. 4 mainstages and every bar will be doing something... I wouldn't miss it.
13. Another vote for Barts... I think you need a new bass
14. if you do tweak the neck..give it 24 hrs to settle...but I doubt a decent neck will worry about it, tbh.
15. Doubt this is a good match-up so if the sound is lacking you need a total rehink. 2 x210 would be a good start as that sounds more like the sound capability you are looking for. Weight save isn't any use, if the sound isn't there.
16. IMO, I think more venues/pubs should ban tired old cliche'd songs but that would wipe out half the sets of half the bands and make them work much harder for their money. But then there is no legislating for what is popular ..and the pubs sell beers on the back of how many people are in the bar...???
17. Good bass sound... and that isn't the easiest thing to get..some never can get it. good work
18. Well, it is a band so all should have a view and say but we find one opinion is enough... Others may agree or not but the issue is now in the open and the best case wins. Others might not get what you say is wrong but unless they put up a good case then it should settle it. No one likes to hear the effort is crap so the final arbiter can be the audience. Does it work for them? I don't think you should always bite your tongue just to keep the peace with regards to trying to make the band a better unit. Must admit I get into a few scrapes tho..... Ha ha. But it is only because I care enough. I wouldn't do the whole band deal otherwise.
19. We know when a song isn't working and because rehearsal time at a premium we generally gig it in a few times...but it will be played ok by then, ..we wil like but can't carry off to our satisfaction. There is a difference between playing it and 'getting' it and bands should be brutal and super-critical here otherwise they end up with a set littered with songs that they don't cut and that impacts on the professionalism of the band. So no more than half dozen run thru's max either in rehearsal of gigs and then you know.
20. I'd agree that the sound is terrible IF we are hearing it correctly..and these guys must allow for the fact that it would end up on You tube. But no one is going to buy the amp on the basis of this demo..are they..??
21. We are between two atm.... and the quest was to make a bit more portable P.A that could still deliver. Old P.A was Martin Audio ICT500's with C audio into Soundcraft. BOLLOCKING, IMO. Don't need subs on 90% gigs. Currently running QSC KW12's and they are well regarded on paper... but they don't/cant match the Martins and we went for the wooden construction over composite for that little extra The QSC will need the bins and then maybe you will get there... but the bins are HUGE at nigh on 80lbs in weight so it isn't a lighter portable option in that format and the single 12 active cabs aren't cutting it atm..maybe we will get there with them. RCF were another option but again..good on paper but need subs... Just my 2p on recent use and observations. But ...bands round here do not generally have good enough P.A's to put across decent vocals so I am sure a few listed on here would be enough to better the job. 300-600w vox P.A are not enough against a poweful punchy pub band IME.
22.
Wishing Well's an amazing song! I thought my band was the only band that did it! Truckstop
ha ha ...it is a classic jam song.
23. Of course, I don't want to see the same set played by zillions of bands... but then you need to get a following ..and be popular..?? If the LL said certain songs are banned, then not a problem..that would help us out on our set choice..but then don't complain when he has to shell out top $ for his best bands and then they don't draw so well...?????
24. was having this same conversation with our local pub LL the other day. He said we had changed our set since we first started playing there and that we are now more commercial... We had the reputation for the being his best band and I hear that less these days as we do more pop dance singalong numbers.. I think it is just us in transition as we formulate our festival type set which loves the anthemic type songs against our initial 'players' cred. After we complete this summer..we should have 3 sets.. pubs..which are getting less appealing these days Parties/functions..altho, by no means are we a function band and a festival set. If you headline these..then you pretty much have to nail and close the show, so you need the crowd RIGHT into it... but then that set can miss the mark in certain pubs..funnily enough. It is a strange balancing act and one we aren't entirely happy with.. but the latest emphasis is on good punchy songs where thre band can stretch out as this is the only thing that will make our time in pubs interesting...as they are just too much work for the money Having said that..I dreaded the party last ..which went down a storm and was well paid ,and need to clear out the cobwebs in a new pub tonight.. weird.................
