Normal service resumed...thankfully. Some very odd definitions of funk or groove by some people, IMO
BTW the bass I was looking at in the sales forum wasn't a Alembic, it was the ACG
That is fine... same applies
-
McVie and Entwhisle aren't fancy players but played Alembic..but yeah, roots on a fancy top is a bit naff. The basses are a bit 'look at me' so you should have a bit of a trick or two...IMO.
Bet it sounds good though.
hmmmm...really..??

Sounds like bad connections rather than blown..blown to me means no sound at all as in open circuit. Abuse would be coil drag...but crackling sounds like it hasn't been stored well and there may be corrosion. Good luck with Bag End as if the chassis was old PAS..you would be in trouble.getting anyone over here to re-cone it I'd go through all the connections and probably re-solder and then start to look at the chassis internals..which means getting Bag End to advise.
An update: The promoter messaged me apologising profusely again and promising a gig in the near future at full whack, In the meantime I got in touch with a new venue and we got a gig there on Saturday at the double the money we would've! Win-win!
result...hope you pull them and the news gets back to the other guy
-
Hmmmm............. if he has history of this sort of thing, I'd bill him and make it known that he OWES you. Now, this will not get you any more gigs or money but then you know he isn't going to deliver on that anyway. I think he has learnt this ruse to help plug his dates...so I would do everything I could to close your people down from supporting the place..and certainly on bogus dates like this... Also, I would consider naming and shaming on a local level but that assumes you'll not even be thinking of working with him again
How do you guys find bands in your areas? I've had success with Partysounds in the past but it seems to have died right down, and joinmyband.com seems to be a bit of a teenage dreamers hangout...
I know players and I ask them if they have time for this project idea..I explain it and they either want to find time and do it or they don't/can't. Or they find you..which is easy enough if you are active. If I need a certain player after all that, I will ask for recommendations and then check them out. Auditions don't happen, you know they can play, what you are looking for is chemistry and a feel for the whole unit being focused on the same page.

You auditioned them and you will pass on letting them join you. I doubt you can or should even try to whip them into shape. If they can't busk those songs then that pretty much tells you how much work it would take...

PV any good...?? er, no, not really....but bang for buck and if you can accept their sound then it is unlikely to let you down. I would file it under functional and sturdy and there is a lot to be said for that so if you can use the sound, then there is a load of it still about. Not tried their new amps though but then neither am I likely to, tbh. P.A gear will do depending on how discerning you can afford to be....the sound should be acceptable but not stunning.. Sorry to go against the grain
-
Free coffee and tea..with fresh milk. A clean and tidy kitchen and decent loos. If it has all that, it is likely the guy will have a decent P.A , clad room with decent amps, and basic playback and recording facilities. And room to park 5 or 6 cars.per room.
-
if you want a big powerful sound then you will have to put the money into big beefy units and carry them. And then if depends on what venues you play...all bets are off if you go outside Local festival hired in a P.A which they swear by... and it ran out of steam at 20-30mtrs outside and ruined the showcase event, IMO as the sund was weedy. Probably about 3.5k but no one sounded great thru it but the organisers wont have it. I don't trust their ears now so I doubt we would be interested. You need to get a feel for what your P.A can do for people numbers and sound throw, for want of a better word. You sound like you want power and oomph

Often overlooked is the backdrop...but then time and money is the key.. Speed of set-up against effect against cost for something you can't use all the time..?? it goes on. We carry a basic 4 bar with floor spots for small gigs and then hire-in when the venue, budget and event allows. Minefield, mostly.

Singer didn't forget...just wanted to hog the limelight and curtail others...:lol; get used to it wait until the gtr tries that one....

yep..don't like the EQ variation, or lack of, on the Valve jobs either but you plug them in, fire the bass up and it's like..'hullo, we are cooking' Can't explain it but they work..and this from a non convinced Ampeg..and Boogie 400 type for that matter, user. I generally want 4 band para eq on amps, but if the basses sound good, I never get further than the enhance controls...which is just a rotary pre mapped sweep, anyway.
-
Have to say that the amp isn't versatile IMO. I know people who love it with the Ampeg cabs but I just don't think the EQ stage is going to help much if you REALLY have to call on it. This is why I personally would only want to use the full valve jobs which are totally impractical for my use...but the valve output stage totally renders any EQ issue almost redundant IMO..but even then, the last thing you want to do with Ampeg......generally.... is try and get a sound. They either do it for you or they don't...and maybe one has to go.. Mismatches aren't unknown by any means but maybe you have two immoveable objects here in terms of sound character..??

Thanks... horse escaped from paddock and just appeared in middle of dual carriage way...so I had no chance..I thought it would try and move out of the way but we are talking split seconds here so it was..f*** me, horse and then whammo. Maybe it got trapped in headlights or something Police had already been called so they were there about 5 mins alter. All I remember was, horse, smack, windscreen and then bang on the roof...so maybe it tried to jump at the last minute .. its big backside tried to come through the windscreen but it was never going to fit so it went over the roof. Winscreen did a sterling job and it was very tough. Took out front drivers lights so it was coming straight for me in the drivers seat. I think the car would have survived if the horse hadn't landed on the roof but now they will write it off. I don't understand how I got away so lightly tbh.. and not much front impact. Horse still standing afterwards and walked to vet horse box and the vet seemed quite happy with it. I could have killed it myself last night but now I think the horse was young, might be some family pet and pride and joy so hopefully it isn't too badly injured. Maybe it was insured ...but am now just thinking how lucky I was... not even a scratch or bump...no airbags and the car has zillions of them so maybe I didn't hit it at speed although I didn't stop until 30 or mtrs down the road.. I recall thinking where the hell is it..and it had obviously gone over the roof and was looking forlornly at me..thinking why had I hit it..??? All a blur to me really but it just goes to show how quickly things in life might change... After being annoyed initially, am mighty positive today and I have had a really good day... strange, but true. So, now car shopping and have car gas. Need to check all my gear works ok as well........

When do you start to rehearse your Christmas songs?
JTUK replied to Chris2112's topic in General Discussion
only will do a couple and we will use a chart and do them on the night. Not going to rehearse songs we will do for a couple of gigs at most. -
I'm ok..and so is the horse I hit at about 50mph...I think. At least it was walked to a vetinary horse box ... Need to go and view cars today but I doubt the horse is insured. Thanks for asking.

Gig was ok,,,car is a write-off
-
I wouldn't be happy to accept it,,, I'd want my money back,

More times than I can remember.... half the band can be a new face. If they can play, it will ok but they will need ears.
