We have many people posting that their 112 combo, or similar, can keep up with a hard hitting drummer. I don't believe them. Their definition of loud isn't anywhere near my experience of loud. I have kept up with loud drummers (my definition of loud) with 500 watt amps and 410, 610 and 210/115 cab configs in the 800w - 1000w range. I was also at the upper limit of my ER15 plugs as well. If you're going to fight the volume game then you need lots of speakers and good ear plugs.
Very true, IMO.... and this is why a single speaker will always struggle... if it can deal with the volume, it wont be able to deal with tone, IMO....it is either/or. But you also need to try and avoid this battle in the first place.

If you play driving 8ths, then it pretty much must be pick, otherwise fingers covers the other bases better. That is withiout getting into how many other digits you then employ. To duplicate driving 8ths... which is a typical rock sound and requirement, you might do better to play with a double stroke single finger to get that tight consistant metronome this...?? Depends on the limit of your imagination and desire, IMO.

Just that soapbars in Jazzes is a bad idea...

If weight is a factor and it can be for everyone if the load in is a pig... then I am more concerned with a light lift rather than load myself up like a pack pony just to do it all in one... The back doesn't care how you are balanced it cares about the weight it is having to cater for. For me, it isn't so much about a straight forward lift or say 60lbs... it is about any twists or runs upstairs and through doors.

If they are just going to throw numbers at you..then tbh, it sounds like a bit of a bodge...so with that in mind, it doesn't seem that they are worried, so neither should you be. Just get your chops together and have a laugh

To the OP.... is this the first deal here that hasn't worked out for you..??

They don't seem to be helping if they can't get a set or CD to you....that sounds odd to me..!!!! We are a tough act on deps so I try and give them every chance..and get a LIVE CD to them asap. They are expected to do the homework and if we are lucky, we will just about recover the ground and be decent enough. No matter how talented they are, they aren't going to do everything right, but the idea is to get above the bar of just playing the song. If you end up better than the original guy, then that is as good as you can probably hope for. It helps if you have done a few of these things recently so you have the confidence that you KNOW you can cover it..but the one thing you can control is to be upto scratch playngwise..!!! get some practice is..and LOTS of it between now and the gig

The other thing you have to consider...IMO... is that some venues are just not condusive to playing loud music. Our take on this is not to do them then.... but you could use a P.A for a mix... but that isn't likely to get around the drums being acoustically loud and harder to mix in smaller confined spaces.# And then you might have a look/listen at the sonic space the line-up takes and try and split it. A bad mix is a clash of frequencies fighting for the same space...
So should I put my speaker on a chair or not then?
If you can't hear it, then maybe you'll have to...but I'd fix the underlining issue which would be to mix the band or get another cab.
Sympathy to you but word of caution. I went down the light weight Bergantino cabs and found they lacked a bit in rock band set up so ended up buying the heavier HT322 cab from Karlfer. Sometimes its good to have a back up plan just in case. Have you tried the exercise route first and strengthen back muscles. Save losing your well earned gear Dave
Its the NEO factor

if you don't want to sell, then don't... a few grand on CC's should be manageable, but maybe set up a fund and divert more into payng them off if you can. Get an extra income and fuel the fund... gigs or lesson money..?? I wouldn't be selling now anyway... now buying, that is another question.

I get more kicks hearing my own music than I do other bands'

I like to listen to us if it is a good 'take'...but I also like to see who else is out there doing what..??##Sometimes I'm surprised, sometimes, I'm depressesd..but then I could say that about us as well... -
supergroups have always had a home in jazz, imo..
With regards to practice,I don't think it's about the instrument..it's about the mind set.Drummers can easily keep their hands working by spending a bit of time on a pad. I know plenty of players of all instruments who don't play from one gig/rehearsal/lesson to the next, and it shows.
Agree... you can tell pretty easily but you only get 'conned' once
-
why would you use a drummer who doesn't play from one date to the next..or any other muso for that matter..??
-
or always on the look out for interesting things.. that is what bass players do..as they are always listening

Well, I enjoy putting units together as I think I know what I like and others buy into that to a degree..maybe they like or need me to do the leg-work of getting things moving..but it takes a lot of energy to sustain it..and of course..good people are expensive so the trade-off is that the units tend to be very good fun but can't work much as everyone needs a bottom-line figure AND to be available. This can be so frustrating that you don't have enough time together to really build something. I think to play locally, there are so many limiting factors to how good the band can be... so the most popular acts are the acts that get about the most..and the little gems tend to be the best kept secret to the few....

something not too rigid when you need to store them off stage... might rule out cardboard for me..??
-
Roqsolid do a good job and keep cabs in good nick so I think they are worth the money. If you think cardboard will do ok..then as long as it lasts then its your choice. I think covers earn their keep for when you come to sell the cabs... I bought mine second-hand, gig them loads, and the cabs are still virtually mint. job done...

Don't even think about it is those terms..... 5 is very comfortable for me so I don't hanker after a 4 at all. In fact, for me, a 4 is lacking
-
simple..ask them!! and they should be asking/telling you. I think I'll know how my rigs sound 80-90% of the time so I don't really see why this is a problem.
-
Will it...?? it might be right in your ear, but is that the best place to mix for a room..??? Less of an issue if you are running FOH, but a mix for you might not be a mix for anyone else, not the drummer, not the band..???
-
Yes I think the new ones are made in China, like most of them these days.
Indeed.... you would be surprised how much the much maligned Behringer innards get about these days.
-
Eden of yesteryear would have been the class act amongst that lot, IMO... Not sure about the current crop... maybe they make them in the Pacific these days..???

I am surprised people are surprised.
