1.
Hi Skinner, they're the same ohm rating so would that not be a problem? This was a question about mixing speakers, not about whether or not using these cabs for bass is a good idea. I've been using these cabs live for 6 years, been complimented on my bass tone many a time and never had a problem with the low end. So saying "the only thing bass about them is in the name" is a pointless remark to make. i'm sorry but people like these 2 annoy me. If you're not going to help on the subject at hand, please don't reply to it. Many bassists over the years have used them as BASS cabinets. Fine example, go listen to the first 3 Iron Maiden albums, Steve Harris used them with his rig for all that time live and in the studio before the speakers died and he eventually replaced them.
Well done... you come on here and ask a basic question and then you post that. You know exactly what you can do next time you post something.
2. As an aside, what take do you think the main draw should take of the ticket sales..???
3. Sounds good to me.... your costs are low so you have nothing to lose. Make sure the other bands are worth a slot...and they need to sell as well. It may well provide impetus for future gigs but you have to make hay when people turn out as a favour. Common mistake is to get ALL your mates at first few gigs and then think you have cracked it... but you can't rely on mates all the time and when the favour wears off... you end up starting all over and playing to lesser crowds. Any band that can sell tickets from their fan base is doing well, imo.
4. I'd probably be interested but I'm in Kent, right on the M20...about an 1hr from London, Guildford etc South Essex.
5. Because they are so expensive... they can eailiy get £350 for a sax/trumpet section on a sat, so they aren't looking to dilute that. I'll pay half that for a friday for the same pair. Also, they are readers, expect you to have a pad for them...( they will have their own, so again, no rehearsals.) They will only break the rehearsal rule if there is a chance of repeat business. I suggest you get the set together... make up some basic charts and offer them a gig... and they will sound you out at that gig and decide to do more..or not. Accept that anyone any good..and you really want someone very good... will be busy.. very busy. You can't knock them fo that. They also want more of a busking set where they feature a good few times... They do this and want this...because they can.. and you'll want them to be this sort of asset as you're paying for it. Anyone you bring in on this basis needs to ADD to the show to make it worthwhile. The other thing that you will struggle against... is numbers V fee. The reason there are so many 3 pieces around are because you max the split. and conversley... a 7-8 piece band needs £350 plus gigs which is tough in a pub. They'll pay it ..but they need the return Most guys round here insist on £50's minimum ( that is band players, not horns )and that is for local... anything more and there is travel exes... And you will need to be prepared to lose them to a better gig... and put a dep in...that is ok, as you are now in the realms of very good players dropping in and out but since they all read, not a problem.
6.
Actually...after distilling the list of numbers ones it's pretty apparent it wasn't as slaptastic or electronic as most people think. They got the live music bug way back when and still have a big thing for music... this means that you no longer dread a party when it is for a 60th birthday. To get lots of gigs, the only thing you need to avoid is metal... We find bands that get stuck in pubs are heavy or grungey...or too stuck in a mode .. or not so good, anyway.. AC/DC doesn't travel too well into a party too often if that is all you have got... but the general rule of 2 of a kind is good and it is the variety that works... We do stuff from the Who, Killers, Stereo's, Foos, Weller, Pretenders...as long as they are songs first and foremost. Once we sorted our set out, we have never had a problem and you could say that we play a pub type set...for a party....so that same gig/set works for £250 pubs...which you want to keep to a mimimum, to £1000 parties. And the difference between a £1000 and £1500 gig is not the material... it is the people you know who can/will pay that.
7. Yes...agree with BFM... sell the gtr cab to a guitarist and get a bass cab....assuming that is what you'll put through it.
8. As I say, there are many around here.... so anything that is different from the norm would be welcome. So, turnng that around. if an 80's band is in the minority around your way, then that is good for you guys, IMO. The last things a local scene needs..IMV..is same old, same old
9. Depends what you want for your money. I can see why you would be expected to pay top dollar for kit made in the west, but I don't like to pay that for stuff from the East when the difference/savings goes to the shareholders. If the kit is £370 from the off, then you know you have cheap... not necc bad, but cheap..!! You reconcile whether you'll go for it...but when the price is top dollar/high... then I think you are entirely right to be critical... An £800 plus cab should not be flawed...IMO ..and appear knocked up in 30 mins with poor execution. How hard is it to order/use the right screws, for example.. Talking generally here.
10.
So there's a healthy market for them then?
I would say they work ... Not sure if they are popular because of what they do... or because they are the most likely live music source. I think there are too many of them, tbh, personally, but you'd have to do detailed research on the numbers they pulled in. I wouldn't say any of the bands were a BIG pull, although some get healthy crowds. I say that because they typically don't or can't sell tickets - almost 100% exclusively pubs - and don't get great money at parties. Which is kind of odd as Rewind is pretty big..iirc.
11. The majority of bands round here are 80's bands...you can't avoid them.
12. It's a rake off ...... Of course they have preferred practioners ..... I think you can ask what is so special about 'their' medical, but I doubt they will be willing to tell you.
13. Very difficult... I wouldn't book a band myself unless I had heard them...for anything....pretty much. I far prefer word of mouth from trusted people rather than show reals...but sometimes showreals is all you have to go on... There is a lot of pressure charging good fees.... so I wouldn't take a punt on less than £1000, but then I would want to see the big difference if paying £2000. BEST wedding band I know are a swing type 4 piece... you just can't go wrong with this band, IMO. They describe themselves as swing jazz so if you can cope with that,..perfect http://hullabaloo-uk.com/
14. It depends what you are trying to do with the songs and how simply you play them..or how simple they are. Gtr and bass don't really have too much of a conflict but you need to be careful with keys and gtrs as they might nick the same part. Also, if you copy your part and just try and fit it together and expect everyone else to do the same..then that can be easy... or it coulod be a complete train-wreck... Some parts are fundemental and core, some aren't... I'd be loathe to trust some drummers to get the feel of a song right.... so this is where you will want to 'direct' them. It applies to other instruments as well... If you are doing standards, then everyone can busk them, but some songs are more intricate than that.... If you are just a three piece it depends how well the gtr can handle the top of the song....and chances are the songs are going to be easier and lend themselves to that anyway.
15. Quite agree.... we will only do them if they sanction our set and what we do, otherwise they can go elsewhere..
16. oh, to be a wedding band.....!!
17. Played a new pub...for us...in order to get summer season gigs in the Garden party thing started as I know new LL will target this as the setting by the river is fab. Marquee, summers day will really work. Had a real star turn on the kit who totally wowed the crowd...and I mean, totally. Good turnout but I doubt they noticed the rest of us... ha ha ...and they were our followers...!!! So, he's booked again, then
18. It works or it doesn't..... Hopefully, you are dealing with mature people who buy into the direction and have the same goals... and they can bend their own ideas to fit the greater good.. That also means they have their own lives as well.... so you need to be respectful of that. If someone starts telling you exactly how it should be...they are going to have a fair bit of money to cover it. If someone isn't buying your ideas and vision...maybe you should rethink how you sell it..???
19.
oh my. why cant you guys just say. yeah Andrew i like the playing and enjoyed it, or no Andrew i dont like it and your a twat. ?
well, I said I preferred someone to do something with a track rather than crib the notes..and that would apply with any cover band I get to see, as well.
20. Plenty of pubs doing well round here.....but maybe there are too many pubs and not enough good ones which is why you have so many managers moving on. That is different from the pubs actually closing. There are also a few towns that have 10 or so pub gigs a weekend..maybe more. But yes... I do think there are too many pubs in general and too many bands trying to get in them.............. I do think that a pub will have to take £1000 to make the fee worth while..but maybe it is about turnover and selling rather than having an empty pub for which the costs have to paid for anyway........ The best fee a pub will pay here is £500.... but you have to have the numbers stack up to be able to afford that..

4x10 Dilemma

Big fan of DB cabs but MM20 is right... DB112 alone is a bad idea...esp if coming down from a decent 410. You might pick up GS112's more easily but again, you'll need two. Same chassis, completely different bias. I have a couple of Berg AE112's I might sell...
22.
Bit boring but budget will make a big difference. I know some seriously good players but they are pretty expensive. This is who I booked for my daughter's wedding next year http://www.swaytheband.com/
My AV didn't like that link Barrie..??
23. Depends where it is and what date and budget. Would be in the region of £1500. PM me with basic details.
24. My problem with the drums is they just sound so awful... now if that is because he is bouncing around like that then that is enough to bin the idea. If he sounds like that anyway......????
25. Wasn't convinced it wasn't mimed on the first track but I like her top.. I prefer if people jizzed up the track when doing this... otherwise...????? I got bored by track 2, tbh...
