  1. Brian is a true gentleman. Great communication and fast payment.
  2. Have you searched the vast tabs online? Google is you friend. 😉
  3. Not better built, both are on par. I would suggest you go and play/test both. As what someone else's likes might not be what you like!
  4. Coming from a guitar background a short scale bass might be an easy transition, a Squier vm jaguar short scale might be ideal, it has jazz and precision pickups, and are highly regarded by many bassists. Slap on some steel or nickel roundwound strings of your choice. They sell of under £200 brand new, and you have a bass ready to rock!
  5. Stings recorded sound won't match his live sound. This is because he often over dubbed using fretted and fretless jazz to get his sound in the studio and played live with his P with Rotosound rounds. There is lots of info online if you do a search!
  6. I thought it a good idea to list all the "japcrap", so if peeps were looking to buy they'd know what avoid. As I say, saying something is MIJ doesn't mean it's any good. Most know ibanez, cimar, tokai etc all made superb gear. Having a thread which lumps all 70s MIJ gear just convolutes what is good and what isn't. Not sure how this helps anyone?
  7. I had a Maya jazz, build was fine, however it weighted a tonne, hardware didn't stay in tune, pup's were very low output, felt like I was always fighting it to play. Maybe the P's were better.
  8. I think the title of this thread is correct. There are good/excellent MIJ gear, and there is low quality MIJ gear aka japcrap. There is a clear line, which seems to get blurred more and more by peeps simply lumping everything together under MIJ. I've owned 70s Maya's, Columbus', Antonia's - all of them were rubbish IMHO.
  9. Yup, the old TNT's are solid amps. The TNT's are good, the TKO's less so. Had a Peavey Databass combo many years back. 450w old school Peavey watts, that thing shifted some air.
  10. Good news. As you are probably aware, the BW speaker is decent. If you ever need a replacement Peavey BW speaker, check fleabay, they often pop up for dirty cheap.
  11. Brand new Roswell VTN4-B Vista Tone Alnico V single coil pickup, taken from a new Harley Benton PB50. Pickup only, no screws/springs supplied. £18 for pickup plus £3.50 postage (UK mainland only). Or will trade for Wilkinson split P pickup.
  12. If you can find one a SX SPB62 short scale P bass is also excellent. They are very well made, and come with a standard size P pickups, which means if you wanted to upgrade them later on, that would be super easy to do.
  13. I've sadly owned both the basses you have there. When I started learning bass 20 years back, I picked up the Jedson, because I thought it looked cool (vintage), however having played many basses since then I can say that was the worst bass I've ever owned - the pickups from memory were super low output. The P bass, although being super lightweight ( a plus) is very low quality across the board. If you want a decent short scale bass (especially as a beginner) I can't recommend a Squier Bronco bass highly enough, they are well made, the necks on them (I've owned half a dozen over the years) have all been excellent and super easy to play. You can pick them up around £80-100 and are far superior than the Jedson. The Bronco comes with a guitar pickup instead of a bass pickup, but don't let that put you off, it still sounds pretty decent. I also know from experience that flatwound strings on the Squier Bronco sound great, yes, flatwound strings are expensive, but you will never have to replace them (they last 10 years plus) and are very smooth so are easier on your fingers, which makes learning and playing for longer much more fun. Some may shoot me down here, but I put full scale Fender flatwound strings (£25) on a Bronco once, and it made the bass come alive. So I would recommend them, and you will have a very decent playing and sounding beginner short scale bass.
  14. I can't help resolve the problem, but you can definitely replace the speaker with any one of your choice.
  15. Noice. The white/tort combo is smoking.
  16. If you want more bright, much easier and vastly cheaper to change the capacitor, or brighter strings!
  17. Lovely. So many people bang on about the CV range (and rightly so), but the smart folk know the VM range are more than decent for the money.
  18. What happened to the headstock?
