1. Hey guys, thanks for the info. I've sent the graphite one back and a replacement is imminent!
2. I've bought a new nut for my VM Squier P-bass - a Graphtech PT1204 slotted which is supposed to be a replacement for precision bass nuts. Having compared it to the old one however, they are noticeably different - the original is sloped toward the G slot, has a flat bottom edge and is thicker. Excuse the camera phone pic, old nut is the white one. There are so many variations available on the net that I'm finding it near impossible to find a exact replacement. It's obvious that I've wasted £9 on the new nut (unless there's someone on here that wants to buy it from me), but is there someone in BCland that makes nuts? I'm sure I've seen a thread on it... Please help!
3. I replaced the Duncan Designed ones in my VM Squier P-bass with Toneriders - much better now, they are good quality and have more punch. Recommended.
4. Hey Monster, thanks for the link but I contacted these guys to ensure I'd get a Mk1 as pictured on their site, and they told me that the Mk1's are discontinued and I would receive a Mk2. So on to GK themselves who told me that the "footprint" of the new cabs is the same as the old ones except for the interlocking corners. they very helpfully offered to send me replacement ones for my combo free of charge, so hats off to Gallien Krueger. I'm going to order my cab today.
5. Hey all, I have a Mk1 Gallien Krueger MB210 combo, and I'm ready to buy the MBE210 extension cab for it, but GK have discontinued the Mk1's in favour of the Mk2's. Will my combo stack OK on the new cab? The interlocking corner protectors don't look the same, and I can't find a Mk1 ANYWHERE! Aesthetically speaking i would prefer a Mk1 to match my combo, but I'm not going to buy a Mk2 if I can't sit the combo on it properly. Any ideas? Fanx.
6. I looked at various speaker configurations to go with my combo, nearly went with the 2x12 which is also 8ohms @ 400w, but decided to go for the 8ohm 400w 2x10 cab, ordered yesterday - early Christmas pressie to meself!
7. I have a GK MB210 combo and I want to get an extension cab for it but I'm not sure what sort of output I'll end up with from different combinations of my combo plus various ext cabs. My combo's output on it's own is 350w @ 8ohms and it says full power 580w on the back. Can someone tell me what sort of output I can expect from the following cabs if I pair them with my combo: 8ohm 200w cab 4ohm 600w cab 8ohm 400w cab Can I use an 8ohm cab with a combo already rated at 8ohms?
8. The dude is Level 42's drummer. He has brought a breath of much needed fresh air and a touch of youth to Mr King and co. One of my favourite drummers.
9. Our drummer has an electronic kit, he said the only thing he doesn't like about it is it looks so sparse, so he sticks his acoustic kick drum in front of the kick pad; looks quite nifty actually. Sound wise, well, I prefer an acoustic kit, but it's not up to me is it? Jon (our drummer) doesn't tell me which bass to use, and why would he? Besides, he is the Isle of Wight's answer to Rick Allen - he can trigger the snare with his foot pedal that would normally be used for the hi-hat, and if that makes his life easier then more power to him. Best drummer I've ever played with.
10. The version of Alphabet St. was cool though. That singer Dan is a pretty excellent drummer too, I seem to recall seeing him on The Pop X Idol Talent Factor playing his kit at one of those contrived "at home" scenes.
11. I replaced the Duncan Designed pickup in my Squier VM P with a Tonerider. Much better now, punchy as kcuf.
12. I use Spotify to check out music I haven't heard before or to delve a bit deeper than tracks I've heard on the radio or TV. I used this technique to try to "enjoy" some Radiohead. Sorry, but I'm with Noel Gallagher on this one - I'm totally having it until the little fella starts singing.
13. My Ibanez ATK sounds like a Stingray. Status-Graphite basses sound quite distinctive too, donchafink?
14. Paid £185 for my ATK310. I've finally decided it's a keeper after to-ing and fro-ing as whether to sell it on again. It's good for certain venues but not for others, whereas my P-bass is also good for some venues and not for others. They balance each other out see? My P-bass (a VM Squier) was £240, but I spent £35 on a Tonerider pickup for it. Still a bargain though innit?
15. Juggernaut Blondes, Pump Action Sunshine.
16. Never been a fan (Last Summer was good though), but IMO the remaining guys should rise up, change their name and carry on. Show the world (and their former singer) that they will not be tainted by association.
17. I loved the Black Album, Load was a disappointment and after that I lost interest. Now they seem as out of touch as multi-millionaire rock stars can be. That scene in Some Kind Of Monster where Lars is sat in a private suite sipping cocktails while his art collection sells for millions did it for me. Plus Kirk Hammett's recent comments that they can't afford to stop touring. How did that happen Kirk? Did you sp**k all your cash on Rogaine...?
18. Love to see another build. Fan fret SG? Awesome!
19. Wedding gig in a small marquee on Ventnor seafront, people up for a good time, danced to anything, free bar, drunk lady falling over, drunk man being extremely rude to our drummer during the break, done by half ten, home before midnight.
20.
... Listening to a *New* LEVEL 42 track called 'Sirens' (recorded LIVE at the IndigO2 September, 2013).. Level 42: - Mark King -Bass & Vox, Mike Lindup -keyboards & Vox, Nathan King -guitar & Vox, Pete Biggin -drums, Sean Freeman -Sax & vox, Nicol Thompson -trombone & Dan Carpenter -trumpet.
I was going to post this. It's a true return to their roots and blimmin excellent too. Just a shame we're only going to get a 6 track EP and not a full album.
