1. Simply put, you are out of your comfort zone. People with stressful / important jobs can handle huge amounts of pressure but this is something different. I used to suffer horrendous nerves when I first started playing but it's now second nature and I haven't got nervous for 20yrs. I just kept doing it which killed the nerves. They went after a handful of gigs. I'm sure if you can handle a high pressure job then occasional gigs will soon be a walk in the park
2. I've got two trads & love them. If you phone him he'll be able to advise directly. Tell him what you play & what you are looking for - it's what I did
3. I took a break from 2000-04 because I lost interest & these days I'm more motivated than I ever used to be. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow
4. Day after my birthday too
5. Great pic. Welcome
6. Welcome to Basschat
7. I've always said if you come across as relaxed, up for it & easy to get along with you will have won 3/4 of the battle. Have fun & good luck
8. My US P-bass was listed two or three weeks ago. I've hardly pushed it though but rest assured there is a P-bass there to represent the currently under represented Fenders. I do think the market has changed massively over the last 12 months. Not a recent thing, it's ever since the phrase credit crunch was coined.
9. Welcome to Basschat
10. I started a Silverstone covers have shocking customer service thread too! Great product but Shaun needs to pull his finger out at times. I don't buy from him on principle now & have put business others way since
11. Take a bass playing friend with you & ultimately just go with the one that feels right for you All 4 would be fine for what you want so I'd take any comments dismissing any of the choices with a pinch of salt. It's not going to be a disaster if you walk away with any of those
12. I try to avoid overseas trades personally but when I've bought frm the US in the past you just have to accept you take the hit if the exchange rate goes against you on the day. Stuff is not selling as quickly these days so £18 is a very minor dent anyway. I've even found my EBay sales usually go to a relist right now
13. Welcome
14. It actually depends on what you use your gear for and what the value is. It's always worth checking with your individual home insurance policy. If you are making any money from music then most will not pay out. I think it's worth having a policy if you gig reguarly. I too use http://www.musicguard.co.uk but I've never made a claim so can't tell you if they are any good.
15.
We had a gig lined up supporting Kunt and the Gang last night but or drummer had to go to Blackpool we knew in advance but due to me being away on business all week we couldn't have a practice. We don't like pulling out of gigs so a message was sent to the two guitarists that went 'you guys got acoustics?' got 2 messages back saying yes so we f***ing did it, was a lot of fun crowd seemed to enjoy it, winner.
Careful Wayne, you'll get an ASBO!
16. Winchester last night & I enjoyed it. I thought the band did well. The (Canadian) headliner did a rant about musicians from the UK & had the audacity to compare himself to Check Berry in how he picks up bands to work with. The punch line was he had found this great band and they were all from overseas. As a working UK musician I found that a little offensive. Still the promoter seemed more impressed with us than him. Karma!
17. Welcome Doctor
18. I'd love to see your 77 P-bass - do post in the gear porn section, we have a few 70s Fender fans here. Welcome
19. I use a Shadow piezo pickup that like mpst of the above examples just sits in the bridge wings. It sounds like my bass and doesn't colour the sound. No amp, I use the D.I. and whatever D.I. box the soundman has. Simple. Feedback seems to be really highlight whether the soundman is used to double basses but usually they are & I never get a problem. If they are not then I suspect most setups would give them issues! (i.e. stop fiddling & just leave it alone!!!)
20. Another succinct introduction...welcome!
21. Welcome to the forum. You shouldn't feel you have to apologise for what you play. Those Squiers have a great rep and a lot of love on these pages
22. Tis a bit steep, especially in this current financial climate. Nice looking bass though
23.
I'm playing this every day & definitely have no worries at all about it now, even putting up with roundwounds until my GHS get here Cheerz, John
Pleased to hear it!
