1. Welcome
2. It's not the best one though. I've seen this one before and just tried it again. My MIJ 51RI which is circa 2008 is according to that site 1994. It really isn't though. It's a guide but I think the Japanese ones tend to confuse the system a bit
3. Hoping to go on the 12th but certainly put an appearance in on one of the days.
4. Buy from a music shop or if you go second hand buy from a player - a badly set up (i.e. not actually set up at all) bass can really put you off. So avoid Argos! Personally I'd go for a Squier too. It's what I started on & the resale value is excellent.
5.
It doesn't have that much intrinsic value now, I know, but I love basses that have been well played in like this one.
Very cool & I think I'd have done similar. I'm not massively interested in value & I do like something that is playable

Hi

Welcome
7.
Not a combo, but the Orange Terror Bass and SP210 (or 212) makes a pretty compact package and should give you all the dirt you can handle. May be a bit above your budget though.
It's loud & light. I love mine
8. Changing the neck makes no difference to the sound, just changes the radius of the fretboard to something more to my tastes
9. Whatever people say, it's two sides of the same coin
10. I use Roto flats in the same gauge & haven't had to recut the nut. They are on all 6 of my electric bass guitars

Hello

it's one of the many smart things about Basschat
12. What's the story behind how you acquired this? These really don't come up too often
13.
I've recently acquired a worn-in '78 mocha and I have a bit of a love hate relationship with the colour. Today, since looking at yours, I love it.
Looking at the pic I posted in this thread, it doesn't do it justice As you can see I have original strings, till receipt & case candy. I'd love to see your one
14. I love the look of yours Happy Jack
15. If you want it vintage & don't mind it not being the most lightweight & portable http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=118634&hl= I have a 1978 135 & they are great. Failing that I had my Terror really cranked up in Bristol on Thursday. Keep the gain down & turn the volume up and your tone is there I mention this as you commented on post #35 about it being too gritty. It doesn't have to be.

Hello
This forum was recommended to me due to my bass issues.
Welcome This forum may give you more bass issues
17. I've shared this pearl of wisdom on these very pages before but it's worth hearing again; Never have more than about 3 pints before you go onstage. I love talking about my technique
"Always go for Bands that are better than you think you are.
I've been given this advice too and it is good.
18. I don't know about the best but I find EBay is always best for pickguards. Often I get them shipped over from US sellers from EBay. I was able to get a white 51RI pickguard to replace the matt black one and learnt through searching that simply getting a Mike Dirnt one wouldn't fit so easily. They don't appear to have a HWY1 pickguard listed at the moment but there are 8 pages of alternatives from international sellers
19. I'm surprised they don't have one for telecasters. Hopefully they'll get the basses addded soon
20. Yep, these were EVERYWHERE in the late 80s. And not very good if memory serves me correctly.
21. It came up earlier in the month on Basschat & most of us were a bit disappointed
22. It does sound a bit scam like. The pics look pretty legit to me without taking the guitar apart. He lists an awful lot of faults? Surely if it was that bad he'd have picked up on it straight away?
23.
Nice bass, seems a good price. Does anyone know if that was a colour option or could it possibly be a refin?
I've seen that colour on a few early 80s P bass Specials.
24. Immaculate versions of the 77-78 era are going for £2k and are actually selling even in this current financial climate. We're talking NOS type condition with original till receipts, ashtrays & case etc. So I think it would be unwise to guess a price without pictures and a fair bit more info. A standard ish price seems to be £1200 - £1500 right now but this doesn't factor in resprays, replaced pots, replaced parts, general condition etc. So they can wind up going for as low as £800 as Stinson suggests and looking at the original post is does suggest that this may be leaning towards needing TLC rather than looking like it's just come out the shop. So detailed pics and a bit of history on the instrument and we can probably give you a much closer idea of what it is actually worth
25. I like the pup like that & it looks alright to me (although I wouldn't buy one on the grounds that I'm a similar age to, well, Mark Hoppus himself actually!?! Then I saw the bit that said "Mark Hoppus signature Jazz Bass with gig bag: £766.80." A second hand original one normally goes for £300. Say no more
