1.
Well I'm pleased to say I got a good one. I did two gigs with it this weekend, and without a doubt it's the best Jazz Bass I've owned. Does anyone know whether the pickups are the same as those in the AVRI 64 reissue? What are people's thoughts on drilling the holes for the covers and thumbrest - is this likely to devalue any future resale or affect potential collectivity should they someday obtain collector's item status?
I really wouldn't worry about this ltd ed/collectors stuff Tut. The Geddy amd Marcus were ltd runs in 1998 and they are still making them, albeit in Mexico now.
2. Called me old fashioned, but is it not one of these? Link http://barefacedbass.com/product-range/big-one.htm
3. So, our drummer, on Facebook gig advert "will Karl have another new bass this week?" Cheeky git. Anyway, always one to oblige, the Flea made it's 1st appearance. I've still not got round to setting it up, although I did sort the neck relief a touch. I think the Metallica numbers Nothing else matters straight into Enter the Sandman summed it up perfectly (how DOES one spell segue/segwe blah). The 1st song, I use really smooth, bassy John Paul Jones (Zep 11). Except for the end bit where I change to growl for the heavy bit. That heavy bit leads, via a drum fill, straight into Enter the Sandman, where the growl continues. The change was simply to turn the neck pup tone rotary from notch two, to full treble. Job done! I had the bridge volume on about 1/3rd and the tone on notch three. Never touched that all night. All tonal changes done on the neck pup. Great sound, simple to change throught the (limited) tonal variations I need. The neck is really excellent, for me. It is slighty deeper than most jazz necks I've played, but it just fits my hand perfectly. I do a short tapping lead in You Really Got Me (don't ask why ) and it rang out really clearly, no loss of dynamics. At the end of a lively 1st set, drummer boy actually said it sounded like a Rick on Enter The Sandman. Not like him to notice . So, in summary, the one negative for me is the small side dots are difficult for me to see in some lighting. A versatile jazz that's got a great tonal range, is light (mine is very light), and is already supplied with dint's to fit the drummers head, when your are hitting him to keep time. And the Lurch dancers didn't worry it either . Sorry for those who received sub standard ones as this bass, to me, is a very good, giggable, versatile, unusual looking bass. Might even get round to setting it up

bad back

Another deal with Jamie. I bought his Streamliner on Wed and he was magnificent getting it to me by Friday (or Sat night's gig was going to be a challenge ). On top of that he put two splendidly useful extras in for me as well. Really nice of him and much appreciated. Absolute pleasure to deal with, fully recommended. All the best Jamie and thanks again .
11.
fad noun an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, especially one that is short-lived; a craze. "some regard green politics as no more than the latest fad"
Yup, that's me BUT, I was the first to receive one so I'm the trendsetter. Never thought I'd say that!
12.
s You Northern chaps have some strange stage wear.
Gi ower lad, tens neetweer
13. Splendid piece of kit. Please people, buy all his gear quickly that avatar is doing my bleedin' nut in Have a bump for classic tone.
14. Many thanks gents, the help is very much appreciated. I guess I'll be fine as long as I wear rubber gumboots . Thanks again, Karl.
15.
Found a set of digital food scales that weigh up to 5kg. Good news is the bass doesn't weigh more than that!! It weighs 4.2kg or even more accurately 4232g!
So about 9lb 5oz in old money. Not bad. Not bad indeed.
16. Please advise. Just gota splendid Streamliner 600. The provider from this parish has been extra decent and provided 2 kettle leads (yes I know people HATE that word ). Both leads have 10 Amp fuses. I'm sure the one that was on my Streamliner 900 was a 3 Amp fuse. Definitive advice from expert would be most excellent . I've spent the last half hour with Google being not much use Cheers in advance oh wondrous Basschat Massive!
17. As Gareth said, both are likely to be more expensive than the Fender. Whilst as yet we don't know resale on the Flea (apart from one) Maruszczyk and Limelight both seem to suffer from significant depreciation and also seem to appeal to less people second hand. I can understand why that happens, for a couple of reasons.
18. Hmm, 3 weeks of quiet-ness. Are we loving this young discreet, or has it been surreptitiously sold on. Come on, your public expects updates . Edit, why is my spelling so sh*t
19.
Cheers Tom Haha sorry i completely forgot to be honest, i'll do it tonight. Pinky promise
Tony has just bought an amp off me. He was decisive, did what he said he'd do, when he said he'd do it. Absolute pleasure to deal with and fully recommended by me. Enjoy the amp Tony and thanks again, cheers, Karl.
21. One of the side issues is when you perform at wedding gigs, you often get further bookings from attendees if you perform well. If you aren't allowed to perform well, it's likely to cost you business. Which is something of a pisser when it's down to factors beyond your control.
22. Thanks Dropzone. Quite a few interested in this bass, most trying to raise funds. Proof of provenance has been supplied to some folk privately, including one of the videos of it in action. Some measurements have been requested by folk so I'm going to put them here. Disclaimer - all measurements done with dodgy 58 year old eyes Nut width 38mm Width at 12th fret approx 53mm Depth of neck at 1st fret approx 20mm Depth of neck at 12th fret approx 21mm Diameter at 1st fret (from top of fretboard E, to top of fretboard G, ie max measurement) approx 60mm Diameter at 12th as above approx 80mm In summary, it's kind of jazz neck, somewhere between a C and D profile Cheers, Karl. 23. I always have a slightly higher trade value as I look at a cash price as a slightly discounted valuation. I always price gear at a price I think is fair to both buyer and seller. Nobody has to buy. Nobody has to trade. Two fair minded people with a mutual interest should be able to come to a satisfactory compromise. Just wish I could stop buying, selling and in particular trading. It's becoming a bloody disease thingy .
24. I had a Purple Heart Conklin 7 string in the late 90's. Absolutely incredible bass, beautifully made. That is a truly amazing price for a bass of this quality. GLWTS.
