Can the X Factor judges hear what we hear on the TV?
karlfer replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
Quite. We should be denying this programme the oxygen of publicity by not discussing it on a public forum. D'OH!!
You are here then -

Can the X Factor judges hear what we hear on the TV?
As above, and the last two pages since Doddys post have been a waste of bandwidth you could have used to argue about custom bone nuts on your "fiver". X factor is IMO an extended advert designed to sell product to people who care more about having and expressing an opinion that may count towards the "winning" selection than it`s actual value as music. The involvement is what sells, the by product is a CD and a video and maybe a tour and most importantly, newspapers. The back story is what sells it to the "voters"irregardless of the lack of actual musical talent. The back story is what you hear burbled out on breakfast tv by yet more celebrities. When the act or it`s ability isn`t enough, you are invited to care about the judges and their lifestyles, partners, drunken binges etc. The fact that some of you here expressed quite passionate opinions about rather bland singers after minimal exposure proves it works very well. You are involved, have an opinion, care... Imagine how it feels after watching it for years.... Me, I prefer listening to a bit of music.
Must be great to be the only correct opinion Obviously I am weak, easily led and feeble of mind to actually think Leona Lewis or Rebecca Ferguson can, erm, sing. 'Scuse me, off to dribble my tea. Karl. -

Not really sure, but the TRC doesn't look right, not sure if the binding has the gap behind the bridge, couple of other tiny things. He's not sure if it's 4001/4003. Double truss rod, well, there have been fakers with double truss rods, I have had a couple. It's just nagging at me, so hopefully an expert will put me out of my curiosity

Something about this one that raises a little nagging? Sure it is genuine but would like an experts thoughts? Cheers, Karl. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300826204035?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Great price, but at 69lbs you'd have to built like arnie (Conan/terminator era) to gig with that.
Yup, my 410 is "only" 63lbs.

We usually record it, so 1.5 hours becomes about 25 minutes of performance. The best two this year (Marion and Ella) are long gone sadly. It is very rare anything on it is my cup of tea, but having watched the formative performances of Leona Lewis and Rebecca Ferguson, it really does occasionally have something to offer. The world may never have got the joy it gets from those two wonderful songstresses. Just my opinion. -
Cheers Hamster, just assumed it was me being a plonker as usual

I went to change my profile picture, it took out the old one but now won't upload a new one. As MB1 put it, I'm a shadow of my former self. Any ideas chaps? Cheers, Karl.

OK, it's a phenolic fretboard. Plays very well, as the nut width is between J and P and the neck has quite a shallow profile, reminds me of a Lakland Bob Glaub neck in terms of depth. Neck feels very comfortable to me but I guess there are a lot of Status owners better qualified to comment than I am. Full range of tones from the 18 volt active system. It is a quality bitsa, if it had original neck and pups it would be out at £800+. It hasn't got those, so that is reflected in the price. It will never be a collectors piece because of that. Mind you, the replacement neck and pups ain't bad Cheers, Karl.
Think the fingerboard is highly unlikely to be rosewood - I thought all Status Graphite fingerboards were a man-made material called phenolic.
I think you are right Pete, and will confirm as soon as I get it back tomorrow. I will adjust the ad accordingly.
Karl my man you do seem to come up with unusual kit, this looks outstanding!
Still a long way behind you Tom I think I have caught up with all the PM's. If I've missed anybody, my apologies and please let me know. Cheers, Karl.

Wow, never had so much interest in a bass. Massive thanks to Pete for putting them photos up. No idea what you were writing about but the pics look great . Currently trying to reply to all pm's. Issues. I have been asked if it is definitely a rosewood board. I can't say for sure until I get it back tomorrow. I just assumed dark = rosewood I will update on that on return from the luthiers. Hopefully my feedback will help with confidence. Thanks for all the interest peeps. Cheers, Karl.
