1. I thoroughly agree. UPS are my favorite, and I also normally book them through Interparcel. You can add insurance on top. For foreign shippings and/or more insurance I book with them directly so you can track the item internationally on their website.
2.
Everything for an original '78 Stingray, less a body, plus a non-MM swamp ash body and a birds eye maple neck with tuners and a de-tuner.
Excuse me for chiming in, but in the opening thread don't you say that even the preamp and pots are EB early '80s (you think....)? I'll try to sum up the ID card of Frankestein here: the hardware and pickup from a certain '78 'Ray, fitted (not correctly, at least regarding the bridge) to a copy body, attached to a '78 neck coming from a different 'Ray (which now an idiot has buggered forever - at least in terms of value and collectability IMHO, although anybody may disagree - matching it with the wrong neck plate.....). Preamp and pots are EB, probably early'80s. Plus bits and pieces, some from the era (catalogues, hangtags,....) and some not (D-tuner), all with a non-original hardcase. No news (at least for now) about the originality of the pickguard. Is that correct? If not, how about a classic list of what's available? All the best with the sale, mate
3. In all these years, this is the first time EVER that I see a Japanese '70s reissue with proper pickup placement. Normally, they all have '60s spacing, that beats me.... Maybe because this is a '75 reissue, so it's different, I do not know. Beautiful!
4.
This is a ridculous price for a 'ray - why are you crazy people not buying it?? Have a bump on me - if I wasn't too broke and already snowed under with basses, I'd be off to the bank asking favours. In fact, if this had a maple neck, I think I'd throw caution to the wind and sell a vital organ or two for it.
Absolutely!!!! Forgoodnesssake guys Rob your nan if needed LOL
5.
Perhaps you could elaborate
I am afraid Warwickhunt is correct: last time I checked, Parcelforce do NOT insure musical instruments beyond £150. So even if you pay for extra insurance, that's your max protection anyway. I know in this case they shouldn't accept your extra insurance money, but they do..... tut-tut I also use Interparcel, normally with UPS.

Sold!

Having owned for a few years a '94 Sterling I can honestly say they are cracking basses. Welcome to the forum and Good Luck with the sale!!
7. Dan bought a Sterling from me: paid immediately and stayed constantly in touch throughout the whole process to delivery. Great guy and a recommended buyer. Enjoy the Sterling, mate!!! Claudio (Apothem)
8.
I'm over in Nashville in a couple of months - may have to get down to Lowend to check out some of these. I hear nothing but good about them from the USA
That's exactly where I got mine, from Brian Barrett at the LEJ shop in Murfreesboro just outside Nashville, with loooooads of tasty basses to try....
9. Cheers everybody The Sterling is now SOLD Thanks for all your nice comments Claudio
10. Here for sale is my 1994 MusicMan STERLING. Serial n. 43953: considering that production started in 1993, this is a very early one. Trans Red with a STUNNING birdseye neck and fingerboard. Excellent condition throughout, with only a few very small superficial nicks on the body (a couple of millimeters) and a perfect neck. No belt rash. Slight oxydation on pickup poles and mutes screws, purely cosmetic. The mutes are absolutely intact and fully working. Hipshot D-Tuner fitted but the original machine head is included. Comes in the HSC pictured and with original MusicMan strap. Price is a firm but fair £850 paid with bank transfer. No trades please. THE PRICE INCLUDES SHIPPING: the bass is in Italy where I left it for when I visit, and will be shipped from there by my father, just give him a couple of days to pack it.... Please do not expect a 24hr delivery, that would be prohibitively expensive, rather expect 3-4 working days. This will stay here exclusively for BCers for some time only, then it will be eBayed (with shipping charged on top) in case of lack of interest (or funds.... ) Thanks for looking Claudio
11. I had a 4 string LEJ (http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=47957&hl=lej). Absolutely cracking bass, in USA they rave about them!! Still relatively unknown here... Sold it only because I am a maple guy... BUMP for a great bass at a great price as well!!
12. Thanks everybody for the input. Well, I suppose you are all correct in your own right. If I were a collector I would not sell her. If I were a dealer I would price her in the 1750-2000 price bracket as she is indeed in above average conditions: only some checking behind the body, the neck is 99% clean and the frets are virtually new. And when I say that neck and frets look really good, I really mean it. Plus the black epoxy preamp and no particular bumps or dents to mention. The fact is that I bought her to play her, but suddenly, after having worked for years on a professional project (non music related), I am ready to launch it, and time to play is zero. So I hate to have her there in the corner doing nothing. Hence I can accept a lower price so somebody here can appreciate her. Moreover, she would need a setup. On the other hand, in the MusicMan department I still have a 1989 Stingray and something that is even rarer than a pre-EB Ray: one of the very early Sterlings, from 1994. The birdseye on the '89 'Ray is really nice, but the one on the Sterling makes you faint!! So here she is at £ 1575 + shipping payable with a bank transfer. If unsuccessful, "ebay it will be". Cheers
13. Well, I have been told that it is a bit expensive.... Fair enough, but you always start asking more to get less, don't you? So let's shave 10% off and come around to what I had in mind without beating around the bush too much, bringing it to a competitive £ 1575 + shipping (payment with bank transfer). Thanks
14. Thanks everybody I am willing to consider offers
15. Here is my 1979 Pre-Ernie Ball Stingray for sale. I have bought it last year but never managed to play it for more than a few minutes as I am really busy, and I see no light ahead at the end of the tunnel... So better to release her to a fellow BCer that can use her rather than seeing her gathering dust in the corner. The colour is Rootbeer/Mocha brown. Serial number is B011003. Neck date is 11 Jan 1979. Body date is frankly unreadable but it may easily say Dec 20 1978 (some letter more visible than others). The shape of the pickup cavity under the pickguard is consistent with the period. All pots are dated 1978. As far as I know, only the trussrod bullet has been replaced (the original one is damaged and is included). The finish appears to be the original one, no other traces of different colours in the neck pocket and in the pickup or the electronics cavities. General condition is really very good: the back of the body has some mild checking (that you can see only at an angle) but no belt rash. The fingerboard is clean and the frets are 100%: belive me guys, this has been played veeeeery little in her life!!!! The frets do not appear even scratched!!! The back of the neck has a couple of markings, but they are on the lower side behind the G string and cannot be felt at all when playing, just a couple of points (a few millimeters each) where the lacquer is starting to wear off. I am sure she needs a setup/cleanup, and I have noticed one of the saddle screws is a bit stubborn. No rust on the hardware. It also looks like the string tree has never been fitted: it's not there and there is no sign of repair where it should have been. It comes in a period fully functional black tolex case with orange interior (handle, hinges, latches are all ok) and the original HANGTAG MANUAL!! The sound is spectacular!! I also have a 1989 2-eq, but this has a beautiful nasal honk and very smooth, "full body" lows THANKS TO THE MUCH SOUGHT-AFTER BLACK EPOXY COATED PREAMP!!!!! Not many of those around.... Moreover, all solderings look intact. Old price was £ 1750 + shipping, NOW £ 1575 +shipping. Bank transfer welcome in order to avoid Paypal fees. I live an hour from Glasgow, just in case you want to pick it up. This is a SALE ONLY, no trades please. Thanks for looking Claudio
Why didnt you mention the enormous hole underneath the pickguard.. The square hole seems to be cut out with a hamer and a screwdriver.. almost as huge as the pickguard itselve and more than a centimeter deep. The neck is good though. A stingray neck for 850£ anyone ? Comes with a piece of trash wood attached to it..
OMG!!...
17.
No, the 5 strings is in 20 mm too...but it's ideal for slap !
Oh!! Good to know A couple of years ago in NYC I visited Roger's workshop in Brooklyn and asked Kevin Drexler (Roger's aide) about tighter spacing for a 4 (I used to have a NYC 4 from the '90s with the old Schaller bridge, where you could choose your preferred spacing). He told me that was not a possibility (I suppose because of contractual obligations with the current bridges supplier....) Nice one anyway mate
18.
What IS the string spacing at the bridge?
I may be wrong, but I believe Sadowsky 5s maintain the classic 19mm, while 4s are now at 20mm
