1.
Hi Guv, just a few questions , has it a shallow neck profile, Good action, and is the acess to the top frets easy? is it good for slap and fingerstyle? kindest regards ziggy.
The neck profile is similar to a Jazz, not as thick/chunky as a Precision or an old Stingray. At the moment the action is set medium-low, and that should suit most people. If you want it even lower you'll have to tweak the trussrod, but I haven't got the correct tool size (Allen key at the nut). Access to small frets (in terms of cutaway shape of the lower horn) is easy, although the thickness of neck+pocket increases once the bolts area is reached. The fingerstyle tone is warm, typical of the Bartolini MK1, and the bass has somewhat a certain "woodyness" when played unplugged. You can also dial in with the 3-eq. The slap is modern, and the slap switch (which kicks in a prefixed eq setting which overrides the other eq ontrols) is brighter (although not harsh) and is not too scooped, it seems like it retained some mids. If you do not like the slap preset, just switch back to the normal eq use. I will include in the sale the bottle of DUNLOP 65 lemon oil fretboard conditioner with applicator.
  2.
Gah, why is this pink/why I am I not more affeminate?
Oh, come on mate... LOL My old LEJ - LowEndJazz pictured here WAS pink.... This is cerise red, so you do not need to be more effeminate to enjoy it... Cheers

  4.
How much does she weigh?
Who? Britney Spears?... Sory, I'll get me coat... Great bass, really.
  5. New price £450 shipped within mainland UK in a brand new tweed case with keys (all details in the OP).
  6.
That, is a cool bass.
Cheers Jamie
  7. For the attention of fellow BCers is my Conklin Groove Tools GT-4. You see some Conklin 7-stringers around (Bill Dickens or standard), a few 5-stringers, but VERY few 4-stringers. Especially in the UK where there is no importer/distributor. I am not saying this is rarer than Bigfoot, but close... Specs are: - ash body with figured maple top - 5 pc multi-laminate Wenge / Purpleheart neck with Purpleheart fingerboard - angled back headstock - Bartolini MK-1 pickups and preamp with Volume, Blend, Bass, Mid, Treble controls & a slap switch. On the back of the electronics there are two trimpots where you can dial in with a screwdriver the relative gain/output of the normal 3-eq to the slap switch (fixed eq settings) - locking jack. The bass is in excellent conditions and must have been used very very sparingly, I can hardly see any fret signs!! After close inspection I have noticed only a very small dent in the finish on the back and one in the front, near the upper edge of the body: both are 1-2mm and superficial. No buckle rash at all and even the grazing below the G string (nails or pick) is soooooo light that is invisible even thanks to the vibrant colour. I had it just recently: I have always wanted to try one, but after 30 years of maple boards, I just cannot change, and I know it would lay there collecting dust, so better find a new home while it is still so nice and gorgeous. I have just conditioned the fretboard and it looks brilliant. RRP for a new one in the US is around 1100 USD, with street price at around 750 USD. Used ones are about 450 USD (the older series without the Bartolinis and with 2-eq only may be slightly cheaper). To that you should add shipping (120 USD with USPS) and 22% (VAT + import duty + custom charges) on the total of bass+shipping. Always if you find a decent one available to be shipped..... I am asking £400 SHIPPED (trackable and insured) within mainland UK in a BRAND NEW tweed case, with keys (value 50 quid)!! Will only ship to the UK and I am afraid that no trade will be considered. I have paid twice here on BC with a cheque so that would be nice, or, alternatively a bank transfer. Paypal is only a last resort, they gave me a hard time last year (locked the account suspecting I was a business, hence in need of VAT registration... WTF?!? yeah, right....) So here's your chance to grab a little rarity, save dosh and lots of time. Thanks for looking Claudio (Apothem)
  8.
No it doesn't. The Bongo features neodymium pickups, 4 band EQ with 18 volts...it couldn't be more different to the Sterling! The Bongo also has completely different pickup placement and body wood. It sounds absolutely nothing like a Sterling...although you know it's a MM!
Yeah, you're right, somebody has already corrected me I thought I had read something, obviously I was wrong ... OOPS
  9. Nice one. It must have been one of the first after the transition to the non-glossy neck.
  10.
Bongo pickups have neodymium magnets and an 18v preamp. the dual pickup models are 4EQ Sterling pups have ceramic magnets and a 9v pre with 3EQ I've not owned a single H Bongo but definetely the HS and HH ones are spec'd and sound very different to a Sterling imo
OOPS, you are right about that. I thought I had read it soewhere, but obviously I was wrong.
  11.
I got the ('ray.. soz) off a guy down my street, sold it back to him and he moved to to yorkshire later on so....most likley is the same one! (good one eh?) or at least could be. as I say glad it got a good home. did a lot of work with that one so its well travelled over Europe ATB Edit come to think of it the "guy down our street" was/is called Nick sebleski so....yeah almost sure now
That this Ray is well travelled, well, there's no doubt about it.. LOL The body bears many scars, but luckily the neck is fine. The guy I got it from is not called Seblesky or anything like that, I don't know... Nonetheless, still a great Ray, with a vintage vibe (soundwise) compared to modern Rays. Cheers
  12.
where did you get that red one from? I think its one I owned many many years ago. nice too see it found a good new owner, its like bumping into an old friend ATB
Which red one? They're both red I suppose you mean the 'Ray: got it a few years back from a guy called Nick from Yorkshire. It came in a battered old tweed case apparently previously owned by a Jeff Duncan, guitarist with many successful metal groups.
  13.
I really have to find a Sterling and a Bongo and give them a try. I'm slightly afraid of the outcome though.
On Youtube Ed Friedland (the bass whisperer) tests lots of MM basses (among others) for Bass Player magazine, so you can hear both the' Ray and the Sterling. It's due to different magnets and electronics: to some the difference is huge, to others more subtle. In my case, the Sterling is tighter, a tad more aggressive, while the 'Ray is a little bit more vintage/old school. The Bongo shares the same pickups and electronics with the Sterling, although it's only available with a rosewood board (again: to some may sound slightly or vastly different form a Sterling maple).
  14.
That Sterling has a neck to die for! The Ray pics are a lot smaller but both basses look ace.
Yeah, the pics for the 'Ray were taken a few years ago. Then I reduced them to make an avatar and overwritten the original ones while saving... doh... At least you do not see the battle scars on the bass body LOL
  15. Very nice indeed!! Typical Japanese high quality. I used to have a red one with matching headstock and gold hardware. This will go in a flash...
  16.
That looks really nice & the properly finished neck sounds really nice - Much like my previous luthier'd Stingray. Best of luck with the sale!
Thanks Rich. Yes, Dave Wilson has done an unbelievable job, the finish is absolutely perfect, smooth and even like glass. To be honest, if it does not sell it is going to be one of those problems that one does not mind having...
  17. Black Sadowsky MV4 (Maple fingerboard / Vintage style / 4 strings) jazz in stunning conditions throughout. Sadowsky hum-cancelling pickups and the legendary Sadowsky 2-eq preamp, with push/pull active/passive pot switch. No VTC. Previously owned by Dave Wilson (www.dwilsonguitars.com), a luthier with almost thirty years' experience, of which nearly half with Overwater: you can see this bass on his website as well. Dave refinished the neck and fingerboard giving it a classy, elegant glossy appearance, which also protects from dirt/sweat/greasy paws (LOL) and humidity, keeping it immaculately clean forever and avoiding the need for oiling/waxing/conditioning. No Sadowsky bass comes with this kind of finish as standard, not even NYC basses. The whole bass is really in excellent conditions: after very close inspection I could only find a couple of very small dings (one 2mm maybe, the size of a nail's head; the other even smaller, likely 1mm) close together, near the jack, on the edge of the body but towards the back, where the electronics back lid is. See the pic. Both are normally hidden from sight. I could not find any other scratches/knocks on the rest of the body, with the only couple of swirls/light gaze being on the pickguard. Not the slightest hint of buckle rash. The original Sadowsky rectangular semi-rigid case is also virtually as new. Price is £1200 shipped by courier fully insured within mainland UK. Sorry, but I am not going to post abroad. Current RRP for MV4s (with VTC) is £1799, with special offers from £1619 at the Gallery (special order to be placed) to £1720 at Guitarguitar (black not in stock), so you can save quite a few hundreds. I would like to be paid with a cheque (you remember those? should have a book somewhere..... ): first of all, that's what I did (ask johnnylightyear or bassatnight) so can you. Second: last year Paypal thought I was a business (What?!?), a "merchant that needed VAT registration" (WHAAAAT??!!??), and gave me quite a hard time. Third: I'd rather donate a few quid to the BC site, which I'll do in this case. PLEASE NOTE that I will not be available to ship in the week starting on Monday 31st May as I will be away from home (although I can log in here as usual). Normal shipping will resume on Monday 7th June. Pls take all this into consideration. (In the meantime your cheque can clear... ; ) This is my second Sadowsky (first was a NYC), and I have now understood that, notwithstanding the undisputable reknowned quality, they're not 100% for me, and she has been laying untouched in her case for the last couple of months. Time for a new home. I have something else firm in mind now, so no trades, please. Thanks for looking.
