1. Boris the spider just to warm the old fingers up (the wife tut's and then pretends she's not with me). I sometimes do "If you want me to stay" or any riff that comes into my head. I did the verse bit of aeroplane by the chilis and got an audience of about 4 kids (I don't know who was more suprised).
2.
Markytbass I have a Warwick CL150 combo (older style without the builtin wheels,) 150W (RMS), 1x12 speaker sounds good but I am using it less these days and I have been thinking of putting in the for sale section for £180. In any case you are welcome to come and give it a go and see if it is what you are after I am based just outside Oxford. Cheers Pete
Thanks for the offer. I'm up in Darlington, so a little bit too far. I have been looking at all sorts of stuff. Weight and portability are the two main factors. I suffer with a bad back but it's not always the weight of an amp that does me in so much as the poxy handles. I have a Laney R3 Kick back 165w and because it only has a single handle it's difficult to carry. Anyway in the middle of writing this I have managed to win a Warwick sonic 3 on ebay, so now I will be looking for a cab. Failing that I will be making my own. Thanks for the help everyone. Cheers MTB
3. Bought a Stingray the weekend before and a Roland Cube30 last weekend, hopefully getting a bigger combo this weekend (spend, spend, spend).
4. Hi What does the 2eq Stingray sound like through it?.
5. Does anyone or has anyone used a warwick combo (sweet25.1 to be exact). I have a short list of combo's I am thinking of buying but can't find a warwick to try. The others in the short list are Ashdown, Fender or try and get a 2nd hand Trace (I cant afford a new one on a budget of £300).
6. Flea: Now that you don't use your stingray's anymore can I have one.
7. I like the Rotosound Jazz flats I started off using 45-105 (cos that was the guage of the rounds I was using at the time). These I found too tight so I moved down to 40-100 never looked back. As for price Strings direct do single sets at £23 (I'm sure postage was free and they came the next day), Steve Harris sig's the same price. If you bulk buy 5 Jazz sets or more they are £21 a set. I found these strings to be quite bright compared to other flats I have used and I was able to slap with them.
8. Thanks for the info, but ive gone and bought a Stingray. I tried the thumb but it just didn't click, nice bass though. A guy near me was selling a 95 thumb 4 through neck, I think he wanted around £800 for it. Cheers
9. Well, I have just bought a Stingray. The other bass in my picture at the moment is a Cort which is also active with a humbucker. The Yamaha is probably the best of the two to sell as the Cort has been altered somewhat, maybe I will defret that(or sell it).
10. I'm selling my BB414 it's in good condition a few surface scratches on the back and a small ding on the neck. I have put it on ebay to see how it goes but I am open to offers. Not in too much of a rush to sell but have bought a new bass and this is surplus to requirements. I can email any more pictures if required. Cheers

12.
I played a Highway One Jazz in Dawsons, Reading yesterday - it was set up like a dawg and the strings were way heavier than I usually use, but it was OK and I suppose reasonably good value. Something a bit weird though, it sounded like it was running through an octaver...this is the best way I can put it. I used to have an EBS pedal that reproduced the same note an octave down and this is kind of what it sounded like. I tried it through three amps (all Roland) and it was the same through all of them. I've owned an Aerodyne Jazz previously and my Waterstone 12 has two pickups, but neither of them produced this kind of growl. Played several Jazzes in the US last year and didn't hear it any of those, so I'm wondering what it was that was producing this sound. To be honest, I really liked it! P
It may be the amps, some of the rolands have sound modeling (basicaly an onboard effects unit) it may have been better to try it through a different brand of amp. That said the newer highway 1 basses have a tone control that fender call a grease bucket, this may be giving the effect you are talking about. I have only played on the older highway with the standard fender bridge and that one just sounded like a normal jazz to me.
13. I am in the process of looking for a used 4 string thumb. just wondering what to look for ie where the serial numbers are and how to date them and how much they go for?. Cheers
14.
Warwicks tend to be quite expensive to begin with and arn't niche enough to hold their prices well, I think. In my experience with Warwicks, they don't hide wear and tear well due to them not having paint and lacquer to hide it, maybe this puts people off?
I played a Warwick dolphin SN at Sound Control in Stockton. It had chips of wood missing from the fretboard, it was quite noticeable even when it was hung on the wall.
15. It depends on what I am selling and it's value. If I were selling any of my kit I would put a reserve because I know what it's worth and would rather it didn't sell than let it go for peanuts(that said the 2 basses ive got aren't worth much anyway). Reserves have never put me off, yes I research and see how much things are worth 2nd hand or new. My local music shop has 2 Stingrays a 2 eq sunburst for £850 and a 3eq white for £900 (both used but in good nick). Others Ive seen in shops seem to be about the same price. I tend to use this as a bench mark on Ebay, if there is a reserve depending on where the bass is (is it in collection range) and other factors depends on how much I would be willing to bid. If bidding went over say £700 and the reserve was not met then I would probably just go and buy the one in the shop rather than risk damage in transit or finding out that the bass is an Encore with Fender decals etc. I suppose I'm looking for a new bass at the right time as no one seems to be bidding much at the mo.
16.
Let's bombard him with low offers. I'll give him a fiver for it
Someone did when it was on last time check out the old listing and see the 1 offer.
17. I wouldn't say depressing, desperate or stupid depending on the situation. If quick cash was needed and the bass was not needed or used anymore then selling it may be the only option. That said with something like a stingray I would put a reserve on or it could go for peanuts. There is another stingray 140158093323 on for £500 there is a buy it now of £850 but that will vanish as soon as someone bids as there is no reserve.
18. Another one gone cheap,http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220150799926&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=012 It was too far for me to collect so didn't bid.
19. Didn't reach the reserve, probably go back on soon.
20. I might phone them up on Monday and ask them if they can make me one like that. What a bunch of muppets, if I were the manager and I saw this someone would get the sack
21. I was intending to buy a Stingray but too many other basses clouding my vision. I saw these, and seeing as I don't live too far from Gateshead I was having 2nd thoughts. My theory with ebay is that if I'm going to spend that sort of cash I would want to go and collect it so that I could inspect it first (common sence I suppose).
22. The one I've been looking at has a birdseye maple neck, it also has a 4 bolt neck joint and a bullet truss rod adjuster. Just waiting for the cash now.
23. Cheers obbm very good site, money should be through by end of month. Not looking for a new one as they are out of my price range. Seen some nice 2nd hand, just wanted to know what I was buying. Anyone else have any pointers (what to look for what to avoid etc) that would be great. Cheers
24. Can anyone give me any advice on how to tell the age of a stingray. The wife is going to buy me a new bass, so we went stingray shopin today. I was just wondering if anyone has any info on serial numbers etc. Cheers M
