1. +1 for Foxton & Buckler, Deacon & Taylor. What about Phil & Brian (Thin Lizzy).
2. A 5 string ATK has just come up on ebay if anyone is interested. Item no 110168364520. It has the jazz pickup in addition to the 3coil bucker
3. Have they got the same sort of fat neck that the rickenbacker's have?. Just that I was looking to buy a ricky about a month ago but was put off by the tree trunk neck. Were the designers at rickenbacker frightened that the neck might snap or something.
4. I have a BB414 and I love the neck similar to the cort gb bass I have. I had this crazy idea about gettin a Rickenbacker about a month ago, but soon changed my mind when I actually played one. Now thats a fat neck, it felt like I was playing a 6 string with only 4 strings.
5. What bits are you stuck on?
6. I tried a Burns Bison yesterday at Steven James, Middlesborogh. Nice bass not to heavy the neck was good not too fat. The horns didn't really get in the way though they do kook a little odd. The pickup selector is a twist knob and doesn't really tell you which pickups you've selected. It also has a switch which is marked A/B' this seems to be a phase switch (series, parallel sort of thing). Good solid bass nice sound pick guard was a bit warped and needed more screws (in my opinion).
7. 34 playing since I was 16/17. Play 4 string only, tried 5 but found I only use the top low B as a thumb rest (can't see the point in all those strings and a neck like a cricket bat just for an extra 5 notes). Play finger style can't get on with a pick, fussy about my tone. Like to be funky can slap but never live. I have been in loads of bands some good times some bad (made some good friends along the way, usually not in the same band though). Mainly indie rock but trying to expand on that, done the grundge and metal thing. Love playing bass but currently not in a fully formed band so not practiced with a band for months now. Hopefully this will change in the next few weeks. Like John Entwistle, Norman Watt-Roy, Flea, Mani, Jo Lally, Phil Lynott, John Deacon (probably the bloke that first influenced me to play bass), Macca, Gerry Bryant and Morgan Nicholls to name a few.
8.
Well golly-gosh wow! Danged if it isn't another Ibanez! And he only wants £750 for it! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=290150285200 Blink and you'll miss it ...
You can get a proper ric for that, used obviously but a proper one. I saw a blue burst 4003 on ot the bay yesterday buy it now for £899. It wasn't on for long.
9. I have looked on the net and www.imuso.co.uk are selling 3 burns basses the bison £360, the marquee £310-320 and a ltd edition (john rostill) shadows bass which is more than double the price at £799.
10. They had a black bison in Steven James Music in Middlesborogh when I was in there last. I prefer the shape of the Marquee bass personally. I'm not sure how the electronics differ but it is onlt a 32" scale as opposed to the 34" of the Bison.
11. I'm not too keen on the Imola, too much plastic.
12. I saw this and thought someone had been storing it it a bath (full of water). It looks like its about to fall apart, no scrub that it looks like it's fallen apart and someone has pushed it back together just for the photo.
13. Is your laptop fed direct mains or does it have a transformer. If it has a transformer and is double insulated (there will be a square inside a square on the transformer if it is). We had a problem at work where if you leant on the radiator whilst using the laptop you would get a shock (not big more like a static discharge). We all used double insulated transformers which we had upgraded to ones with an earth. This solved the problem, you may find that some static is finding its way to earth from your laptop via you and your srtings. This is a warning sign that much bigger voltages would probably go the same way. If you aren't using an RCD I would get one very soon.
14. Cheers Doug I'll keep an eye out. I'm not far from the Stockton shop.
15. Has anyone got one or tried one yet or know of any shops selling them. I am particularly interested in the Maranello and rimini series. I know you can get them on line but I was hoping to try one first. Any feedback would be great. Cheers
16. Well, I didn't expect so many replies in such a short time, thanks everyone. I have alot of time to practice at the mo as we have no gigs coming up. Thanks again.
17. Well I have been doing backing (like Bruce Foxton) but we are finding it difficult to find a guitarist who can sing (infact we are finding it difficult to get a guitarist full stop). I have decided to try the lead vox as well as bass until either someone turns up or until I fail miserably. I can sing and in key so thats not a problem its putting the two together. Thanks for the reply I'll put it into practice. Cheers
18. Anyone got and tips on singing and playing. Ive been trying but either forget what I'm singing or miss a chord change all together. Or is it just practice. Cheers
19. We are in the Co Durham area into doing stuff by The Who, The Kinks, Yardbirds etc Drummer 31 and Bassist 34 interested in forming/joining a band anyone interested mail me Cheers
20.
What's that in your avatar? It's tasty.
Thanks. It's the cort, I bought a sheet of brass 1.2mm thick of the bay for the scratch plate. I also bought a 2nd hand MM style bucker which has a much better output and had 4 wires so I was able to fit a series/parallel switch. I removed the single coil J pup as I never used it and it sounded tinny, so no use for a blend pot. It also has a bone nut and a gotoh bridge. I don't know were the humbucker was from nor did the guy I bought it off but it has polished pole pieces and sounds nice.
21. Over the years I have owned these, and regret selling nearly all. 1. Japanese Fender Presision, sunburst later resprayed azure blue (at Morgan Motors Malvern)(P.xd for Fernandes). 2. Bass Clollection 301, metallic pink (P.xd for below). 3. 1978 USA presicion, vintage white(well more banana yellow) black sp. (sold, needed money). 4. Fernandes Jazz, black (defretted and fitted an S1 switch)(sold to move house). 5. Wesley bass, black (all I could afford at the time)(sold). 6. Cort GB34a, sunburst, still got it, (fitted new p,up a series/parallel switch and gotoh bridge). 7. Yamaha BB414, black (still got it).
22. I would like to be told if the sound was cack. Ive played at venues where the sound engineer actually took time in sorting the sound out, made suggestions etc. Ive also played a gig where I was expected to play through the head lining bands rig which was an old keyboard amp and it didn't matter what I did it was distorted. After I threw all my toys out of the pram and a few huff's and puff's from the sound engineer they found a space for my combo. I too have been to a gig where a band used a full sized pa rig in a bar which was about 12 feet by 18 feet. We went outside to listen as it was far too loud and I didn't want to damage my hearing.
23. Sly and the family stone/rhcp......if you want me to stay Chic.....Everybody dance The Who....Boris the spider
24. I have another example of the above, unfortunatlly the wife has deleted it of our ebay watching list so no link sorry. Basicaly someone bought a 2nd hand eppiphone EB0 (SG single Pup) with a few dings for £205. You can get them new from GAK for £115. There was nothing misleading in the add the bass was discribed well (nothing dodgy or any false claims). Ive seen quite a few basses going 2nd hand only a tenner or so below the new price. Some people are just carzy.
