1. I think No1 is the Active USA and No2 Is the bass with the flats. No2 sounds warmer.
2. Now maybe, but at the time the thread started there were several on ebay one of which went for around £150. One 5 string on here went to a pawn broker for £150, I can simpathise with the guy as I bought a Cort bass for over £200 just to see them going on ebay for less than a tonne. Had I known this I would have bought 2nd hand and I would have had more to spend on an amp/combo.
3. This thread is supposed to be about the merits of the ATK....... lets get back on track please folks or I'll have to consider closing this thread as it is not achieving anything.
I think the initial question was why were so many nearly new ones apearing on ebay.
4. “distressed” mortified more like, smashed with a hammer.
5. Saw this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JAZZ-BASS-REPLICA_W0...1QQcmdZViewItem what a beauty
6. Oh well thanks for the replies, looks like I'll be doing it myself.
7. My wife (who's about 5feet tall) has an Ibanez EDB550. The body is smaller than most and the neck is nice and slim. She had always struggled with most designes of bass due to either the body being too large or the neck too fat. It's best to take her to try some out I think that is the only way you will know your getting the right bass.
8. I have recently bought a Vintage sunburst Stingray and want to get a clear scratch plate to replace the black one. I have seen some at WD music on line but feel that £32 is a tad steap for a piece of plastic. I could get some plastic and try a DIY job but wife suggested I try and buy one first. I'm sure I saw some on Ebay (USA) for around £20 recently but can't find them now. Does anyone else know where I could get one from. Any help would be much apreciated. Cheers Markyt
9. I love that Candy Apple Red, and at that price. I thought I could only afford 2nd hand gear of that caliber, and you've proved me wrong.
10. I have a Stingray with Rotosound Jazz flats and it sounds sweet. I don't know if the TI's are as bright sounding as the Roto's though.
11. Ive yet to find a MM that plays like a pig, the one in the rawhide string probably feels like a goat but I doubt it plays like one. I tried lots of basses whilst looking for my last purchase one being the ATK. As I already had a Cort GB34 (which I have modified) I felt that the ATK was a similar bass. The quality is the same but the Cort was half the price so I felt that I would be just taking a sideways step. As for putting a Musicman badge on an Ibanez yea the price might go up but I think people would notice the difference in quality and they would not sell at the inflated price. Look what happened to Rover when they started selling cheap poor quality re-badged cars, they didn't sell and the company went down the pan.
12. Not sure about it being a 'Musicman beater' - I've never had one of those!
I tried both a Stingray and the new ATK through the same combo at Sound Control and ended up buying a Stingray. Not to say the ATK was crap or owt, it just didn't feel the same. The body felt big, and the neck fatter than the Stingray. The 3 way switch didn't really give much variation IMO. I have another bass with a MM pickup and a series/paralell switch and there is a distinct difference when switched.
13. A mate and I did an open mike night a few weeks ago. Anarchy in the UK went down well. In the past I have found these fill the floor. Dead Kennedys, Police Truck The Knack, My Sharona Black Crows, Too Hot to Handle.
14. As kevbass has pointed out you could get a new one for that price. I know the seller has paid extra for the colour, headstock and scratch plate but should that really be reflected in the 2nd hand price?. I bought a 2nd hand Stingray in vintage sunburst and that wasn't priced any differently to the others in the shop. "This is a one of a kind bass" are you sure?.
15. I think it is when you look at other Music Man basses on ebay at the mo. There is a pre EB Ray for less. There is a nice looking natural Sterling at £745 with about 22 hrs to go.
16. With broad band (ADSL) you can literally leave bidding til the last 10 seconds. I always leave it to the last 20ish seconds after I bid early on some car seats (£10) only to see the price go up to £9.50 in the last few seconds. Ok I won them and £9.50 was a very good price but it seemed someone didn't want them to sell for 50p.
17. The first lines i did was some 12 bar blues out of a book. I was big into punk at the time so the others were Janie Jones by The Clash and Anarchy in the UK by The Pistols.
18. If I charge say £20 for postage I will find the best service for that amount i.e next day delivery, insurance. I won't charge £20 and get the cheapest i can just to make an extra tenner. I may not have many morals, I drink too much and swear alot but I feel people should get what they pay for.
19. Well he used some old banana boxes and some newspaper wraped in just enough tape to hold the boxes together. The address label was stuck on with masking tape and had nearly come off. If the amp had been caught up in the back log of the postal strike I would have accepted it. I bought the amp on the 9th. I e-mailed the guy on the 12th to see if and how he was going to send it and raised my concernes about the strikes. He replied that he hadn't sent it yet and was going to sort it out on the Monday(15th) and if the strikes hadn't ended he would arrange a courier (i took this to mean he would be sending it on the monday either by post or courier). On friday in another message he said he hadn't posted it as he was waiting to see if all the strike action had ended (going back on what he had originally said). The amp finally arrived yesterday (Tuesday), seems to be all working ok. But I think had I not kept chasing him up and hadn't reported it as not recieved I wouldn't had got it at all.
20. Now, I've been buying and occasionally selling on Ebay for some time so have a general idea when it comes to postal costs. However some people seem to bump up their postal charges to make extra money on the items they have sold. I recently bought an amp and paid £30 postage, didn't bother me too much at the time as it would have cost more to go and collect. What really got my back up was that it took the guy 2 weeks to post it. For £30 he could have sent it via a courier next day delivery and still have money left over. Grrrr
21. The bass centre was good. I bought a Fernandez jazz bass and a Trace Elliott BLX130 from there about 10 years ago and really regret selling both. Around the cornrner was music exchange. Those were the days.
22. I have been tuning to D-G-C-F as the guitarist i play with tunes down a whole step as he finds it less of a strain on his vox. I know it's not really any good for drop C unless slightly heavier strings were fitted. This works of me though I've got 45-105 flats fitted and they seem to work well. The other group I occasionally play with use standard E-A-D-G so its just a case of tuning up. At the end of the day it's whatever works for you.
23. What utter bollocks. Tell him that Ebay has provided you with his address and you're comming around at the weekend with some friends. And you will be testing the bass Sid Vicious style.
24.
you HAVE to go to howard's bass place if it's still there http://trustedplaces.com/review/uk/newcast...rd-s-bass-place if you ask him if he remembers the guy who bought a musicman sabre from him years ago... he does great setups and repairs, and always has some weird and wonderful basses in the shop.
+1 on Howards, Nice bloke, knows his stuff, all sorts of wierd and wonderful things.
