Has anyone else had trouble with Basschat tonight?
pantherairsoft replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Site News
I haven't experienced anything and am not aware of any super secret secret squirrel work going on in the background that may cause such. Anyone still experiencing problems today or has it straightened itself out over night? Shep -
Hey folks... I REALLY have the upright bug at the mo having had a quick tinker on a friends NXT4 its really opened my eyes to a new world of bass playing... Plus treating it as a new instrument gives me the chance to learn more theory and apply it to somethin new and exciting. I was quite impressed with the NXT, but constantly hear about the CR and CR'M range. Id be looking at getting a 5 so I can slot it straight in with material I currently play, so... Is a CR5M for example really worth £1100 more (over double) of the NXT5? I appreciate it has a higher build quality, plus better electronics, but I thought the NXT was quite well made and how much of a sound difference am I going to hear for that extra 1k? I am also very drawn to this - http://www.thebassgallery.com/product_deta...Acoustic%20Bass I admit I'm mainly drawn due to cosmetic reasons, but also given the basslines current price list it's a bit of a bargain (and about what id pick up a 2nd hand CR5M for, or a substantial saving on a new one) and sound samples on the bassline site sound very similar to the NS Design tone I've heard on YouTube. Thoughts? Shep

Nah, Johnny hates Prodigy... That's why it was amusing! Certain parts of songs, one particular (that you'd of heard live, Si), had to be re-written on the spot due to the ring modulator LFO moving slightly from the click (it's all analogue, and not usually noticeable, but under the microscope it's pretty obvious). So we slowed the LFO right down and I modulate it manually with expression constantly in some rather odd ways... It was bloody hard work to keep a rhythm going but the result was a square-wave sounding synth line with what sounds like a programmed stutter, much like Prodigy use a lot on the recent album. I'm kinda hearing this track in a new light for the 1st time but I love it, and the manual manipulation whilst playing is quite an achievement... Not sure I fancy doing it live though
thoughts.. i want to hear them there results.. si
I'll make sure I give you a sneak preview. Somehow 2 of the 3 tracks have a real 'Prodigy' vibe going on, which is an influence we've never considered or heard in the music before. Interesting.
Same here. Wouldn't mind knowing more of the M9 & M13 myself as they've recently been brought to my attention.
I've played with the M9 a bit and though the modulation section was great, as well as the delay and reverb. I'm interested to see if it can replace 5 or 6 parts of my board effectively which will help reduce the massive distance of cabling on the board as well as reduce the number of power supplies etc...

This thread will never die!!!! Just finished in the studio recording our EP. Gone great. Johnny Carter (Pitchshifter) is a slave driver of an engineer but the results are looking awesome. Just the final mix to do. Was a great experience for learning how my board works under the microscope though, very useful. Task for the weekend - update the firmware on my MP-201... Sweet! Actually after the studio experience I'm considering a Line 6 M9 to replace a number of pedals on the board, thinking if can do the job of my chorus, phaser, at least 1 dirt pedal, Trem (maybe ring mod) and arpeggiator (anyone want to comment on how good the arpeggiator is on the M9 (I currently use a Boss SL-20). Thoughts...? Shep
Hey Shep, Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions, and pick fault with them, thats all useful stuff. Are the updated questions more useful?
Hi Joe, Yeah I think so. Questions are more specific now… which in theory should mean you get better quality of answer and less waffle
I want one! What are the prices like?
http://www.gbguitars.co.uk/gb_sales.asp This 1st 2 are about where the full spec prices start. As ex-show instruments they are a damn good deal over the price of having similar built to your spec.

Picked up a Korg EA-1 from AJ. Well packed, as described and helped with a few technical questions afterwards. Another easy transaction. Cheers again bud Shep

Joe, I've been through the custom build process a few time... I'd think about the phrasing of your questions as a few of them can easily be read as the same. I've tried to answer them best I can.
What information did you need to know before going ahead with a custom build? --- That I couldn't find a bass that felt right in my hands off the shelf in a music store, for me that was 50% of the reasoning behind going custom. The other is that by going custom you get a gorgeous instrument that looks perfect to you. If in an ideal world your were having a custom bass built, what information would you want to know before going ahead with the build? --- The price always helps! Make sure you've seen and played examples of the Luthiers work as well, however if your at stage of having a custom build done then I expect your questions about basses have mostly been answered over your experiences of playing basses over the years. What information have you or do you find hard to find on custom bass's and builds? --- Many Luthiers tend to be pants at communication, generally as they are so damn busy. Extracting a final quote is not always easy... Oh, and getting an accurate completion date is almost impossible What Information is important to you before going ahead with a custom build? --- Already answered/same as 2nd question. What questions would you need to ask before going ahead with your build? --- Already answered/same as 2nd question. Would you need information on different designs of bass (such as thru neck to bolt on neck) and the pro's and cons? --- I would imagine that you would of been drawn to one Luthier for one of 2 reasons. Either recommendation or because the instruments look cool. If they offer different ranges then you may want to know the main differences between sounds and functionality, although in most cases it tends to be an astestic thing. Not so much a 'design' thing but this is where you'd ask about pickups and electrics as well as wood choice if trying to achieve a specific sounds. You mention bolt on and thru neck, while there are lots of arguments over this effecting sustain, the general consensus from top Luthiers (at least those I've done builds with) is that its purely a preference and feel thing an effects the instrument sound & sustain in no way what so ever. Thanks for your time and your help. Cheers, Joe.
Make sure you alter those questions. There are basically only 2 questions above if you word them right, then you cabbage more useful questions... Shep

As the title says, thinking of taking the plunge into the world of the EUB... If like to have a little tinker on one outside of the music shop setting so wondered if anyone local (Nottingham) had one and fancied lending me an hour of thier time. Anyone with a 5er would be of particular interest as having a 5 would allow me to slot into a set of material I'm currently playing... Shep

Few more live ones having just got all the shots back. Really happy with them -
I play and own only 6ers. I play slap (I'm not great but do play slap) and having played them for a while I'm as fluent at slap on a 6 as I am on or 4 or 5, it about finding what works for you. My 3 basses all have the same scale and string spacing - 35" and 19mm. 19mm I wide on a 6, but it means the transition between a 4 and a 6 feels natural for finger and thumb placement for slap and pop.

Hiya and welcome to Basschat from a fellow midlander (Nottingham).
I use a Guyatone Phaser. It's really cool and diddy. To be honest,I don't think True Bypass is as important as some people make out. If it's a decent pedal,it'll usually have a good buffer.
I use the same one (little green one). It's very subtle on bass but doesn't effect the bottoms end at all. I really like it. I did try the EBS DPhaser though the other day and really liked it. It's a little more in your face with some strong resonance etc... But for what I do now I think it would suit me great. If you can find the Guyatone one on eBay etc though it's a stunning buy for the £30-40 they fetch.

Me rocking the EBS HD350 & Neo 212 at a gig last weekend! Great rig.

A good digital SLR and a great eye for it is all you need. Was done with a Canon 500d an a couple of nice lenses... Rose is however, bloody good at what she does. -
Maybe just the truss rod that needs adjusting. If the bridge saddles are all the way down and it's still high there must be a need alter the relief. As a total newboe I'd recommend taking it for a proper set up. £25 odd quid could be a very good investment.
