  1. Last night's gig came in a couple of weeks ago and was a welcome party for the new landlady at a pub near Bury, Lancs. The place was absolutely heaving when I arrived a little before 8pm. I was a bit dropped on to see the rather tiny space that we had been left to set up in, but I've learned to count to ten, calm down and just get set up on a postage stamp-sized stage before now, so that's what we did. We had a great crowd - but only about a third of the crowd could see us, though everyone could hear us - and it was far too hot, with a rammed pub and punters a couple of feet away - but our set went down really well and we will be back (and we can set up at the other end of the room next time). https://www.facebook.com/reel/1453302941967728
  2. I have one of these and it's been my go-to stage bass for the last couple of years. Someone is in for a treat.
  3. Yeah yeah yeah Alice Cooper
  4. My band runs a jam night. One thing we've learned is that it isn't an exam. We happily laugh at ourselves when we get things wrong because it doesn't really matter - there's always another opportunity to play things. If someone else gets something wrong, it doesn't matter. It's all meant to be fun.
  5. I tend to take the top pair off, clean the board and then do the same with the E and A.
  6. I love mine. Gigged it last weekend for the first time in an age. I should take it out more.
  7. Just going off the first post. The majority should rule in a band. If the majority want to put in the occasional new songs then, so be it. When a band becomes a museum it's time to end it.
  8. If you do the video showing what you have to do to make the unit work, they can then say that the unit works, as you have made it work. You might have to jump up and down on it three times to make it work, but it works. Tell them it does not work within your normal expectations and that you demand to see where in any current legislation that you have to provide video evidence. Point them to this topic.
  9. I'm making this year as busy as I can. Go out with a bang.
  10. The black strip is a temporary measure as he has a little box on top of his bass drum that picks up his kit sounds and he just mics his snare up now. It's picking up other ambient sounds as it seems to be a bit too sensitive. I don't like the strip of black stuff either, but hopefully his work round material is coming this week. Glad you liked the vids.
  11. An awkward stage area to get a good sound in. With an amount of fiddling about, we did our best. The crowd had been slightly worn out by an afternoon of karaoke which finished at 8pm.
  12. They are great basses if you can handle the stretch to reach the early frets!! Mine (2003 or thereabouts reissue) sounds more like a Ric than my Rics. I should use it or sell it!

  14. I just block them after replying telling them to f off. the user names are a dead giveaway.
  15. This lot? https://www.facebook.com/groups/292386708913525/
  16. It's much brighter and the neck seems a lot faster. Last night I messed around with the pull on 'vintage tone' knob for the first time. It made the sound even clearer.
  17. The 4003W is a lovely thing - doesn't feel like a regular Ric to me.
  18. We've got 98 bookings in for this year (including our jam night. That's what I intend to do this year, not looking to fill the diary up to the 120 or so we usually do. I have no plans to work next year, but I reserve the right to change my mind.
  19. The second one is the 'Blue Boy' finish (BB) - it was a limited edition in 2002 when this bass was made. Funny story - I took the Fireglo and the Blue Boy to a gig in Manchester. It didn't occur to me that the BB was Manchester City FC colours and we were playing at Old Trafford. It stayed on a stand behind my bass rig.
  20. I find the best way to deal with a moody bast*** is simply not to speak to him and to count the remaining gigs.
  21. I always take two. If I don't take two, something will go wrong. Generally one for the first half and a fresh one for the second half. If I take the 12 string bass out ,then I will take 2 regular active basses.
  22. Some of the money was made back through ticket sales at £20 per head.
